Electrical and optical characteristics of inert-gas plasmas in spatially nonuniform electrode systems

The characteristics of unipolar and bipolar corona discharges in mixtures He/Ar/Kr, He/Ar/Xe, and He/Kr/Xe at atmosphere pressures in electrode systems of the point-plane and point-grid type distributed along the length. It is shown that bipolar corona discharges can be used in the preionization systems of high-pressure inert-gas-atom lasers. The spectral characteristics of the plasma are investigated, and the dependence of the relative intensity of the radiation in the lines Ar(4s-4p), Kr(5s-5p), and Xe(6s-6p) on the composition and pressure of the working mixtures and on the value of the corona discharge current are determined. Solution of a Spatial Stress Problem for an Elastic Layer

The general solution to the spatial stress problem for an elastic layer is given in a new form. A layer compressed by normal forces uniformly distributed over a square is considered as an example.     

Thermal activation of complexation reaction on aerosil surface

The influence of temperature in the 20–100°C range on processes of bimolecular interaction in the aerosil-phenanthrene-trinitrobenzene system has been studied. Temperature-stimulated CTC accumulation on the surface is found. Activation energies of complex formation are estimated. Quenching of phenanthrene fluorescence by acceptor has a mixed static and dynamic character.     

Reactivity of sites on Al2O3 surface modified by Ni

It has been established that CO oxidation with excess O₂ on Ni/Al₂O₃ forms an inhomogeneous NiO contact surface that smoothes critical effects in the sharp reactivity change.     

Decomposability of matrix polynomials with coefficients possessing quasi-simple structure

Synthesis and some reactions of indolo[2,1-c]-1,4-oxazinium perchlorates

Summary The reaction of acyl perchlorates with 1 phenacylskatole affords the previously unknown 1-R-lamethyl-3phenylindolo[2,1-c1-1,4oxazinium salts, which undergo recyclization by the action of ammonia to the corresponding indolo[2,1-alpyrazines. It is found that the salts (R = CHj, CZHS) also form dimers of their anhydro bases. Electronic structure and elastic moduli of the simple cubic fullerite C24—A new allotropic carbon modification

The energy band structure, equation of state, density of states, and elastic moduli of a new allotropic carbon modification, namely, fullerite C₂₄ with a simple cubic lattice (known previously as cubic graphite), are calculated by the full-potential linearized augmented-plane-wave (FLAPW) method with geometry optimization for the first time. The dependence of the total energy on the lattice constant exhibits a minimum for a ₀ = 0.60546 nm. In this case, the lengths of the C-C bonds between fullerene molecules, the lengths of the 6,6-bonds shared by hexagons, and the lengths of the 4,6-bonds shared by a square and a hexagon are equal to 0.1614, 0.1503, and 0.1637 nm, respectively. An analysis of the energy band structure and the density of states demonstrates that the simple cubic fullerite C₂₄ is a direct-band-gap insulator or a semiconductor with a band gap of 1.6 eV. The calculated bulk modulus B ₀ = 196 GPa and the elastic moduli C ₁₁ = 338 GPa, C ₁₂ = 139 GPa, and C ₄₄ = 30 GPa indicate that the fullerite under investigation is a mechanically stable material. The inference is made that the simple cubic fullerite C₂₄ is a new diamond-like molecular zeolite with a unique combination of properties, such as the porosity and nonpolarizability, on the one hand, and the mechanical strength, chemical inertness, and high thermal conductivity, on the other hand. The simple cubic fullerite C₂₄ can be considered a promising low-dielectric-constant (low-k) material (?₀ < 5.7) for use in fabricating interconnections and substrates intended for integrated circuits and nanoelectronics.     

Infinite-dimensional linear groups with restrictions on subgroups that are not soluble <Emphasis Type="Italic">A</Emphasis><Subscript>3</Subscript>-groups

We are concerned with infinite-dimensional locally soluble linear groups of infinite central dimension that are not soluble A₃-groups and all of whose proper subgroups, which are not soluble A₃-groups, have finite central dimension. The structure of groups in this class is described. The case of infinite-dimensional locally nilpotent linear groups satisfying the specified conditions is treated separately. A similar problem is solved for infinite-dimensional locally soluble linear groups of infinite fundamental dimension that are not soluble A₃-groups and all of whose proper subgroups, which are not soluble A₃-groups, have finite fundamental dimension. __________ Translated from Algebra i Logika, Vol. 46, No. 5, pp. 548–559, September–October, 2007.
