Paramagnetic Particles and PNA Probe for Automated Separation and Electrochemical Detection of Influenza

Considerable efforts have been devoted to the development of rapid and sensitive methods allowing the detection of viral nucleic acid. We herein describe an assay for identification of a specific influenza sequence. The suggested method was based on isolation using paramagnetic particles coupled with electrochemical detection of isolated product. Peptide nucleic acid (PNA) was used as a probe for hybridization and identification of the influenza-derived specific sequence. The use of PNA can show numerous benefits: PNA probe is not degradable by enzymes and the duplex of PNA with RNA/DNA is more thermostable and more resistant to pH changes than DNA/DNA or RNA/RNA duplexes. This PNA probe assay can be applied as a magnetically guidable tool for detection of DNA/RNA samples under different conditions.

     

Cohen–Macaulayness of monomial ideals and symbolic powers of Stanley–Reisner ideals

We present criteria for the Cohen–Macaulayness of a monomial ideal in terms of its primary decomposition. These criteria allow us to use tools of graph theory and of linear programming to study the Cohen–Macaulayness of monomial ideals which are intersections of prime ideal powers. We can characterize the Cohen–Macaulayness of the second symbolic power or of all symbolic powers of a Stanley–Reisner ideal in terms of the simplicial complex. These characterizations show that the simplicial complex must be very compact if some symbolic power is Cohen–Macaulay. In particular, all symbolic powers are Cohen–Macaulay if and only if the simplicial complex is a matroid complex. We also prove that the Cohen–Macaulayness can pass from a symbolic power to another symbolic powers in different ways.

The 5v 3 bands of 18O enriched ozone: line positions of 16O16O18O, 16O18O16O, 16O18O18O and 18O16O18O

The four 5v ₃ bands of ¹⁸O enriched ozone have been observed and analysed for the first time. Two species (¹⁶O¹⁸O¹⁶O and ¹⁸O¹⁶O¹⁸O) belong to the C_2v symmetry group and two other (¹⁸O¹⁸O¹⁶O and ¹⁶O¹⁶O¹⁸O) to the C_s symmetry group. They have been recorded at a resolution of 0.008 cm^?1 with a pathlength of 32.16 m. Despite the very weak absorptions observed, almost 250 energy levels have been derived for each of the 4 species, with J ? 35 and K _a ? 13, and suitable sets of Hamiltonian parameters have been determined. For 3 species it has been necessary to account for the resonance between the (005) and (311) states to correctly reproduce the spectra observed. These resonances, anharmonic for C_2v, and hybrid (both anhar-monic and Coriolis) for C_s symmetry confirm the accidentally extremely strong coupling between the (005) and (311) states for ¹⁶O₃, due in that case to the very close distance between unperturbed energy levels. This work also confirms the excellent prediction of band centres of these four species derived from the recently determined isotopically invariant molecular potential function.     

Discrete internal space and its visibility

In this paper we consider a version of extended space-time with the internal space of two discrete points. A complex metric structure for the internal space is suggested in order to use a common generalized differential calculus and a common wedge product for both gravity and the Standard Model. In this extended space-time there are some testable predictions near the electroweak energy scale: the Higgs mass of 350 GeV and the existence of a scalar particle from the gravity sector with mass of 440 GeV.     

Preinjective modules over pure semisimple rings

For a left pure semisimple ring R, it is shown that the local duality establishes a bijection between the preinjective left R-modules and the preprojective right R-modules, and any preinjective left R-module is the source of a left almost split morphism. Moreover, if there are no nonzero homomorphisms from preinjective modules to non-preinjective indecomposable modules in R-mod, the direct sum of all non-preinjective indecomposable direct summands of products of preinjective left R-modules is a finitely generated product-complete module. This generalizes a recent theorem of Angeleri Hügel [L. Angeleri Hügel, A key module over pure-semisimple hereditary rings, J. Algebra 307 (2007) 361-376] for hereditary rings.     

Modified subgradient extragradient algorithms for variational inequality problems and fixed point problems

The subgradient extragradient method can be considered as an improvement of the extragradient method for variational inequality problems for the class of monotone and Lipschitz continuous mappings. In this paper, we propose two new algorithms as combination between the subgradient extragradient method and Mann-like method for finding a common element of the solution set of a variational inequality and the fixed point set of a demicontractive mapping.
