Size effects in monodomain magnetite based ferrofluids

Ferrofluids based on two types of hybrid particles Fe₃O₄/β-cyclodextrin were prepared: Using monodomain (below 60 nm) magnetite nanoparticles with (A) non-superparamagnetic (non-SPM) behaviour and (B) with superparamagnetic (SPM) behaviour. We found a strong dependence of the hybrid particles’ magnetic properties on their size and homogeneity. In both types of ferrofluids we observed hyperthermia upon applying an ac electromagnetic field with frequency 40 kHz and amplitude 30 kA/m. The maximal ΔТ upon irradiation with duration of about 12 min for the non-SPM particles was 12 °C, while for the SPM ones it was 3.5 °C.     

Krull dimension of the enveloping algebra of a semisimple Lie algebra

Let be a complex semisimple Lie algebra and be its enveloping algebra. We deduce from the work of R. Bezrukavnikov, A. Braverman and L. Positselskii that the Krull-Gabriel-Rentschler dimension of is equal to the dimension of a Borel subalgebra of .

     

Gaussian estimates and L p -boundedness of Riesz means

We show that suitable upper estimates of the heat kernel are sufficient to imply the L ^p boundedness of several families of operators associated with the Schr?dinger group in various situations. This generalizes results by Sj?strand and others in the Euclidean case, and by Alexopoulos in the case of Lie groups and Riemannian manifolds. A convenient synthesis of C-22 and C-25 stereoisomers of cephalostatin north 1 side chain from spirostan sapogenins

A simple transformation of the eight-carbon side chain of a natural spirostan sapogenin into the cephalostatin north 1 spiroketal moiety is described. This methodology, based on an intramolecular hydrogen abstraction reaction promoted by alkoxy radicals, permits the synthesis of C-22 and C-25 stereoisomers of the dioxaspiro[4.4]nonane cephalostatin ring system. The acid-catalyzed isomerization of the spirocenter in the different isomers is studied. [reaction: see text]     

Invariant Manifolds and the Long-Time Asymptotics of the Navier-Stokes and Vorticity Equations on R2

We construct finite-dimensional invariant manifolds in the phase space of the Navier-Stokes equation on R ² and show that these manifolds control the long-time behavior of the solutions. This gives geometric insight into the existing results on the asymptotics of such solutions and also allows us to extend those results in a number of ways.     

Studies of silicophosphate derivatives by 31P-->29Si CP MAS NMR

We show that it is possible to efficiently transfer magnetization from ³¹P to ²⁹Si, using variable amplitude CP MAS experiment. This experiment is demonstrated by using Si₅O(PO₄)₆, the synthesis protocol of which is described. From the obtained results, we show that the experiment allows the spectral edition of ²⁹Si spectra from ³¹P→²⁹Si CP, enabling the studies of derivatives involving Si–O–P linkages, such as phosphosilicate glasses, microporous silicoaluminophosphates (SAPO) and bioactive phosphosilicates.     

Callosal connections of dorsal versus ventral premotor areas in the macaque monkey: a multiple retrograde tracing study

Background  

The lateral premotor cortex plays a crucial role in visually guided limb movements. It is divided into two main regions, the dorsal (PMd) and ventral (PMv) areas, which are in turn subdivided into functionally and anatomically distinct rostral (PMd-r and PMv-r) and caudal (PMd-c and PMv-c) sub-regions. We analyzed the callosal inputs to these premotor subdivisions following 23 injections of retrograde tracers in eight macaque monkeys. In each monkey, 2–4 distinct tracers were injected in different areas allowing direct comparisons of callosal connectivity in the same brain.
