Geometries and energy separations of the various low-lying electronic states of Nb(n) and Nb(n) (-) (n=4,5) clusters with various structural arrangements have been investigated. The complete active space multiconfiguration self-consistent field method followed by multireference singles and doubles configuration interaction (MRSDCI) calculations that included up to 52x10(6) configuration spin functions have been used to compute several electronic states of these clusters. The ground states of both Nb(4) ((1)A('), pyramidal) and Nb(4) (-) ((2)B(3g), rhombus) are low-spin states at the MRSDCI level. The ground state of Nb(5) cluster is a doublet with a distorted trigonal bipyramid (DTB) structure. The anionic cluster of Nb(5) has two competitive ground states with singlet and triplet multiplicities (DTB). The low-lying electronic states of these clusters have been found to be distorted due to Jahn-Teller effect. On the basis of the energy separations of our computed electronic states of Nb(4) and Nb(5), we have assigned the observed photoelectron spectrum of Nb(n) (-) (n=4,5) clusters. We have also compared our MRSDCI results with density functional calculations. The electron affinity, ionization potential, dissociation and atomization energies of Nb(4) and Nb(5) have been calculated and the results have been found to be in excellent agreement with the experiment.  相似文献

The nature and behavior of free radicals induced in acetylated cotton celluloses irradiated with γ-rays have been studied by electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. Dehydrogenation and deacetylation appear to be responsible for the free radicals observed from samples irradiated at 77°K. The degree of substitution enhanced the yield of acetyl radicals when the samples were irradiated at 77°K and adversely affected the overall radical concentration when irradiation was done at 300°K. In addition, the ESR spectra of samples irradiated under vacuum at 300°K were more intense than those obtained from samples irradiated in air. The nature, yield, and post-irradiation behavior of the primary radicals are discussed in the light of the ultimate chemical effects observed.  相似文献

MONITORING LIGHT-INDUCED CHANGES IN ISOLATED, INTACT EYE LENSES   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Fluorescence spectral changes occurring upon irradiation with 300 nm light have been monitored in situ in isolated, intact, whole lenses from the eyes of several species. The findings corroborate observations on other individual constituent protein molecules in the solution state, and also reveal features attributable to the supramolecular protein assembly that exists in the whole lens. Irradiation of the lens with 300 nm light causes red shifts in the tryptophan emission spectrum, suggesting alterations in the protein packing in the lens. Intermolecular energy transfer from tryptophan to one of the photoproducts, presumably N-formylkynurenine (N-FK), occurs in the condensed-phase sample. The N-FK formed is photodegraded efficiently in the lens, indicating that the photodynamic effects of endogenous N-FK might not be as severe as has been thought. Species variation in the photoevents are evident, particularly in avian lenses that contain the variant δ-crystallin as the core protein. The photoinduced changes in the near-UV circular dichroism of δ-crystallin (which is α-helical, as opposed to the β-sheet structure of α-, β-, and -γ-crystallins), isolated from chicken lenses, are remarkably different from other crystallins. Irradiation of δ-crystallin leads to a drastic reduction of circular dichroism intensity in the 250–300 nm region, whereas no changes are seen in the peptide absorption band.  相似文献

The structure and dynamics of water around a protein is expected to be sensitive to the details of the adjacent secondary structure of the protein. In this article, we explore this sensitivity by calculating both the orientational dynamics of the surface water molecules and the equilibrium solvation time correlation function of the polar amino acid residues in each of the three helical segments of the protein HP-36, using atomistic molecular dynamics simulations. The solvation dynamics of polar amino acid residues in helix-2 is found to be faster than that of the other two helices (the average time constant is smaller by a factor of 2), although the interfacial water molecules around helix-2 exhibit much slower orientational dynamics than that around the other two helices. A careful analysis shows that the origin of such a counterintuitive behavior lies in the dependence of the solvation time correlation function on the surface exposure of the probe-the more exposed is the probe, the faster the solvation dynamics. We discuss that these results are useful in explaining recent solvation dynamics experiments.  相似文献

Symmetry simplifications are introduced in configuration interaction (CI ) by reducing the number of symmetry-allowed space types if there is degeneracy in some of the molecular orbitals by constructing the unique space types. A new symmetry group which we call the configuration symmetry group is defined and is shown to be expressible as a generalized wreath product group. Generating functions are derived for enumerating the equivalence classes of space types. A double coset method is expounded which constructs the representatives of all equivalence classes of space types using the cycle index of generalized wreath product and the double cosets of label subgroup with generalized wreath product in the symmetric group Sn, if n is twice the number of occupied and virtual orbitals. Method is illustrated with CI using the localized orbitals of polyenes, CI in benzene, and atomic CI for several reference states.  相似文献

Chlorins bearing synthetic handles at specific sites about the perimeter of the macrocycle constitute valuable building blocks. We previously developed methodology for preparing meso-substituted chlorin building blocks and now present methodology for preparing several complementary beta-substituted chlorin building blocks. The chlorins bear one or two beta substituents, one meso substituent, a geminal dimethyl group to lock in the chlorin hydrogenation level, and no flanking meso and beta substituents. The synthesis involves convergent joining of an Eastern half and a Western half. New routes have been developed to two beta-substituted bromo-dipyrromethane monocarbinols (Eastern halves). A new beta-substituted Western half was prepared following the method for preparing an unsubstituted Western half (3,3-dimethyl-2,3-dihydrodipyrrin). Chlorin formation is achieved by a two-flask process of acid-catalyzed condensation followed by metal-mediated oxidative cyclization. beta-Substituted chlorins have been prepared in 18-24% yield bearing a 4-iodophenyl group at the 8-position, a 4-iodophenyl group or a 4-[2-(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]phenyl group at the 12-position, and a 4-iodophenyl group and a 4-[2-(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]phenyl group at diametrically opposed beta-positions (2, 12). The latter building block makes possible the stepwise construction of linear multi-chlorin architectures. The chlorins exhibit typical absorption and fluorescence spectra. A systematic shift in the absorption maximum (637-655 nm for the free base chlorins, 606-628 nm for the zinc chlorins) and intensity of the chlorin Q(y)() band (epsilon up to 79 000 M(-)(1) cm(-)(1)) is observed depending on the location of the substituents. The characteristic spectral features and location of substituents in defined positions make these chlorins well suited for a variety of applications in biomimetic and materials chemistry.  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) studies were performed to investigate the effect of substituents on the properties of benzdiyne derivatives. Twelve substituted benzdiynes-C(6)X(2), where X = F, Cl, Br, Me, CF(3), CN, OH, NO(2), NH(2), OMe, NMe(2), and Ph-were considered along with the unsubstituted 1,4-benzdiyne. The structures, vibrational frequencies, and IR intensities of these benzdiynes were studied with a popular three-parameter hybrid density functional (B3LYP) combined with the split-valence 6-31G(d) basis set and Dunning's correlation-consistent polarized triple-zeta (cc-pVTZ) basis set. The relative stabilities of the substituted benzdiynes were studied with the help of reaction energies of isodesmic reactions, which showed that the electron-withdrawing groups destabilized the benzdiynes more than they did the corresponding benzenes, whereas the electron-donating groups stabilized the benzdiynes more than they did their benzene counterparts. Correlation analyses revealed that field/inductive effects played a more important role than did resonance effects. The changes in atomic charges and spin populations due to the substituents were also studied. The asymmetric nu(Ctbd1;C) stretching modes obtained were close to the 1500-cm(-)(1) mark. Reinvestigation of the experimental results supported these results; a weak IR band at 1486 cm(-)(1) was assigned to this asymmetric stretching mode in C(6)(CF(3))(2) F. Some other benzdiynes also had large IR intensity values for their asymmetric nu(Ctbd1;C) vibrational modes due to the coupling with other vibrational modes. Heats of formation for the substituted benzdiynes were obtained from the reaction energies calculated at the B3LYP/cc-pVTZ level of theory.  相似文献
