Neural correlates of semantic and syntactic processes in the comprehension of case marked pronouns: Evidence from German and Dutch

Background  

It is well known that both semantic and syntactic information play a role in pronoun resolution in sentences. However, it is unclear what the relative contribution of these sources of information is for the establishment of a coreferential relationship between the pronoun and the antecedent in combination with a local structural case constraint on the pronoun (i.e. case assignment of a pronoun under preposition governing). In a prepositional phrase in German and Dutch, it is the preposition that assigns case to the pronoun. Furthermore, in these languages different overtly case-marked pronouns are used to refer to male and female persons. Thus, one can manipulate biological/syntactic gender features separately from case marking features.     

Positronium: A review of the theory

This paper presents a review of the theory of positronium. Calculations of positronium (1) decay rates, (2) energy levels, and (3) external field behavior are discussed. In addition, recent theoretical developments and the test of charge conjugation invariance in quantum electrodynamics are reviewed. Theoretical results are compared with the latest experimental results. The coverage is substantially complete from the pre-experimental years (1930 to 1950) to the present (1975). Emphasis is placed on stating final theoretical results and giving references to the original literature; however, considerable detail is given for specific calculations which display the general calculational techniques used in the theory of positronium.Appendices on (1) relativistic quantum mechanics, (2) quantum electrodynamics and (3) the bound-state equations describing positronium are included to make the paper useful to a wide class of readers.
