We describe herein the synthesis of a triptycene-based surfactant designed with the ability to solubilise single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and C(60) in water through non-covalent interactions. Furthermore, an amphiphilic naphthalene-based surfactant with the same ability to solubilise SWNTs and C(60) has also been prepared. The compounds synthesised were designed with either two ionic or non-ionic tails to ensure a large number of supramolecular interactions with the solvent, thereby promoting strong solubilisation. The surfactants produced stable suspensions in which the SWNTs are dispersed and the surfactant/SWNT complexes formed are stable for more than one year. UV/Vis/NIR absorption spectroscopy, TEM and AFM were employed to probe the solubilisation properties of the dispersion of surfactants and SWNTs in water. 相似文献

5-Chloro-N-ethyl-1,2-dihydro-4-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-oxo-N-phenyl-3-quinolinecarboxamide (laquinimod, 2) is an oral drug in clinical trials for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. The final step in the synthesis of 2 is a high-yielding aminolysis reaction of ester 1 with N-ethylaniline. An equilibrium exists between 1 and 2, and removal of formed methanol during the reaction is a prerequisite for obtaining high yields of 2 from 1. The reactivity of 1 and 2 is explained by a mechanistic model that involves a transfer of the enol proton to the exocyclic carbonyl substituent with concomitant formation of ketene 3. This proton transfer is especially facilitated for 2 because the intramolecular hydrogen bond to the carbonyl oxygen is weakened due to steric interactions. Both 1 and 2 undergo solvolosis reactions that obey first-order reaction kinetics, further supporting the theory that these two molecules are able to decompose unimolecularly into ketene 3. The solvent-dependent spectroscopic features of 2 indicate that the molecule mainly resides in two conformations. One conformation is favored in nonpolar solvents and is likely the result of intramolecular hydrogen bonding. The other conformation is favored in polar solvents and probably exhibits less intramolecular hydrogen bonding. 相似文献

Nanocomposites consisting of gold nanoparticle (NP) arrays and vanadium dioxide (VO2) thin films are noteworthy for the tunability of both their thermal and optical properties. The localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of the Au can be tuned when its dielectric environment is modulated by the semiconducting-to-metal phase transition (SMT) of the VO2; the LSPR itself can be altered by changing the shape of the NPs and the pitch of the NP array. In principle, then it should be possible to choose a combination of VO2 film and Au LSPR properties that maximizes the overall optical response of the nanocomposite. To demonstrate this effect, transient transmission measurements were conducted on lithographically fabricated arrays of Au NPs of diameter 140?nm, array spacing 350 nm, and covered with a 60?nm thick films of VO2 via pulsed laser deposition. Both Au::VO2 nanocomposites and bare VO2 film were irradiated with a shuttered 785?nm pump laser, and their optical response was probed at 1550?nm by a fixed-frequency diode laser. The Au::VO2 nanocomposite exhibited an increased effective absorption coefficient 1.5 times that of the plain film and required 37?% less laser power to induce the SMT. The time-dependent temperature rise in the film as a function of laser intensity was calculated from these measurements and compared with both analytic and finite-element models. Our results suggest that Au::VO2 nanocomposites may be useful in applications such as thermal-management coatings for energy efficient ??smart?? windows. 相似文献

While it is generally agreed that successful strategies to address the health and environmental impacts of engineered nanomaterials (NM) should consider the well-established frameworks for conducting life-cycle assessment (LCA) and risk assessment (RA), scientific research, and specific guidance on how to practically apply these methods are still very much under development. This paper evaluates how research efforts have applied LCA and RA together for NM, particularly reflecting on previous experiences with applying these methods to chemicals. Through a literature review and a separate analysis of research focused on applying LCA and RA together for NM, it appears that current research efforts have taken into account some key ??lessons learned?? from previous experience with chemicals while many key challenges remain for practically applying these methods to NM. We identified two main approaches for using these methods together for NM: ??LC-based RA?? (traditional RA applied in a life-cycle perspective) and ??RA-complemented LCA?? (conventional LCA supplemented by RA in specific life-cycle steps). Hence, the latter is the only identified approach which genuinely combines LC- and RA-based methods for NM-risk research efforts to date as the former is rather a continuation of normal RA according to standard assessment procedures (e.g., REACH). Both these approaches along with recommendations for using LCA and RA together for NM are similar to those made previously for chemicals, and thus, there does not appear to be much progress made specific for NM. We have identified one issue in particular that may be specific for NM when applying LCA and RA at this time: the need to establish proper dose metrics within both methods. 相似文献

A new phantom and evaluation method for experimental evaluation of 1H-magnetic resonance spectroscopy single volume localization techniques regarding signal contamination (C), defined as the part of the signal originating outside the volume of interest, is presented. The quality assessment method is based on a spherical phantom with an oil/water interface in order to reduce susceptibility effects, and applied for stimulated-echo acquisition method (STEAM) and spin-echo (SE) sequences, echo times of 270, 135, and 10 ms, and cubic volumes of interest (VOI) of 13, 1.53, 23, 2.53, and 33 cm3. To be able to mimic measurements of the contamination in three dimensions the physical gradients representing the three orthogonal directions for slice selection were shifted in the pulse sequences. Contamination values in one dimension differed between 6.5% and 8.4% in SE sequences, and between 0.7% and 13.8% in STEAM sequences. In STEAM sequences a decrease of C with increasing VOI size was observed while SE sequences showed comparable C values for the different VOI sizes tested. The total contamination in three dimensions were 19% and 18% in SE and STEAM sequences with a TE of 270 ms, and 7% in a STEAM sequence with a TE of 10 ms, respectively.
