The Periods of States for Markov Chains in a Random Environment

The periods of states for Markov chains in a random environmentare introduced and some properties about periods are investigated. An open problem(Orey, 1991; Problem 1.3.3) is studied under the assumption that states have periods.     

O-Alkyldithiophosphate Nickel Complexes with dcpf Ligand as Efficient Electrocatalysts for Hydrogen Evolution

Six new O-alkyldithiophosphate nickel complexes with dcpf ligand, [(dcpf)Ni(S₂P{O}OR)] (dcpf = 1,1′-bis (dicyclohexylphosphino)ferrocene, R = CH₃ ( 1 ), CH₃CH₂ ( 2 ), Ph ( 3 ), 4-MeC₆H₄ ( 4 ), PhCH₂ ( 5 ) and PhCH₂CH₂ ( 6 )), have been synthesized by the treatment of dcpf with ((RO)₂PS₂)₂Ni in satisfactory yields. These complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopy (FTIR, UV–vis, ¹H, ¹³C, and ³¹P NMR), thermogravimetric analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The nickel atom in 1 , 2 ·CH₂Cl₂, 3 ·CH₂Cl₂, 4 ·2CH₂Cl₂·THF, and 2( 5 )·hexane adopts a slightly distorted square-planar coordination environment finished by two phosphorus atoms of dcpf ligand and two sulfur atoms of O-alkyldithiophosphate ligand. Furthermore, the electrochemical properties for complexes 1 – 6 were also investigated by cyclic voltammetry. With the addition of 120 mM trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), the turnover frequency (TOF) values for 1 – 6 are estimated to be 1243.83, 1046.54, 1331.71, 2545.29, 1899.03, and 1191.37 s⁻¹, with the overpotential (η) values of 0.62, 0.58, 0.71, 0.67, 0.60, and 0.56 V, respectively. The result of electrochemical studies indicates that all complexes can be used as efficient molecular eletrocatalysts for the reduction of protons to hydrogen in the presence of TFA in MeCN.

Synthesis of Honeycomb-Structured Beryllium Oxide via Graphene Liquid Cells

Using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and electron energy-loss spectroscopy, we show that beryllium oxide crystallizes in the planar hexagonal structure in a graphene liquid cell by a wet-chemistry approach. These liquid cells can feature van-der-Waals pressures up to 1 GPa, producing a miniaturized high-pressure container for the crystallization in solution. The thickness of as-received crystals is beyond the thermodynamic ultra-thin limit above which the wurtzite phase is energetically more favorable according to the theoretical prediction. The crystallization of the planar phase is ascribed to the near-free-standing condition afforded by the graphene surface. Our calculations show that the energy barrier of the phase transition is responsible for the observed thickness beyond the previously predicted limit. These findings open a new door for exploring aqueous-solution approaches of more metal-oxide semiconductors with exotic phase structures and properties in graphene-encapsulated confined cells.     

Late-Stage Peptide Macrocyclization by Palladium-Catalyzed Site-Selective C−H Olefination of Tryptophan

Transition-metal-catalyzed C−H activation has shown potential in the functionalization of peptides with expanded structural diversity. Herein, the development of late-stage peptide macrocyclization methods by palladium-catalyzed site-selective C(sp²)−H olefination of tryptophan residues at the C2 and C4 positions is reported. This strategy utilizes the peptide backbone as endogenous directing groups and provides access to peptide macrocycles with unique Trp–alkene crosslinks.
