We report on the z-scan characterization of the nonlinear refractive indices of three borate crystals (GdCOB, YCOB, and BOYS), which are new promising Yb-doped laser hosts. The results indicate the possibility of substantial Kerr-lensing and self-phase modulation effects in femtosecond oscillators and amplifiers. The nonlinear refractive index, n2, of sapphire was experimentally measured in the 550-1550-nm wavelength range by use of a picosecond Z-scan technique. It was found that in this spectral region the value of n2 decreases monotonically from approximately 3.3 x 10(-16) to approximately 2.8 x 10(-16) cm2/W. An empirical expression for the wavelength dependence of the nonlinear refractive index in the 270-1550-nm range was obtained.  相似文献

Results of studying the temperature dependence of the residual polarization of negative muons in crystalline silicon with germanium (9×10 19 cm ?3 ) and boron (4.1×10 18 , 1.34×10 19 , and 4.9×10 19 cm ?3 ) impurities are presented. It is found that, similarly to n-and p-type silicon samples with impurity concentrations up to ~10 17 cm ?3 , the relaxation rate ν of the magnetic moment of a μ Al acceptor in silicon with a high impurity concentration of germanium (9×10 19 cm ?3 ) depends on temperature as ν~T q , q≈3 at T=(5–30) K. An increase in the absolute value of the relaxation rate and a weakening of its temperature dependence are observed in samples of degenerate silicon in the given temperature range. Based on the experimental data obtained, the conclusion is made that the spin-exchange scattering of free charge carriers makes a significant contribution to the magnetic moment relaxation of a shallow acceptor center in degenerate silicon at T?30 K. Estimates are obtained for the effective cross section of the spin-exchange scattering of holes (σ h ) and electrons (σ e ) from an Al acceptor center in Si: σ h ~10?13 cm2 and σ e ~8×10?15 cm2 at the acceptor (donor) impurity concentration n a (n d )~4×1018 cm?3.  相似文献

The magnetic moment of the negative muon in the 1s state was measured in carbon, oxygen, magnesium, silicon, sulfur, and zinc. The attained precision of measurements allowed the dependence of the relativistic correction to the magnetic moment of the bound muon on the charge of the nucleus to be verified.  相似文献

The use of temporally shaped pump pulses for optical parametric chirped-pulse amplification can increase the efficiency and suppress possible spectral distortions in this process. With this goal in mind a novel method for shaping narrowband picosecond pulses has been developed. The method is based on the pulse stacking principle, where replicas of the incoming pulse are created in a specially designed four-beam interferometer. The replicas are recombined with appropriate relative delays. The interferometer design allows for a unique flexibility in varying the pulse shape, since all relevant degrees of freedom, such as relative intensities and delays between the pulse replicas are independently adjustable. In any focussed nonlinear interaction the focus induced phase shift, known as the Gouy phase shift, provides an imperfection in phase matching for any linearly invariant material. However, using an appropriately designed quasi-phase matched structure it is theoretically possible to compensate for the deleterious effects of the Gouy phase shift, allowing a symmetric frequency response and tighter optimal focussing than in a uniform material.  相似文献

In subnormal glow discharge under d.c. excitation at different pressure in a varying transverse magnetic field (0 to 30 G) some measurements have been carried out for various initial average tube currents. The voltage across the discharge increases and average tube current and residual current decreases in the magnetic field. With the help of Beckman’s expression [4] for the axial field and the electron density distribution in a transverse magnetic field the observed variation of current and voltage can be satisfactorily explained. The variation of axial electric field with transverse magnetic field can be represented to a fair degree of accuracy by the derived equation. The behaviour of residual current with magnetic field has been observed in these oscillations.  相似文献

An integral equation formulation for buoyancy-driven convection problems is developed and illustrated. Buoyancy-driven convection in a bounded cylindrical geometry with a free surface is studied for a range of aspect ratios and Nusselt numbers. The critical Rayleigh number, the nature of the cellular motion, and the heat transfer enhancement are computed using linear theory. Green's functions are used to convert the linear problem into linear Fredholm integral equations. Theorems are proved which establish the properties of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the linear integral operator which appears in these equations.  相似文献

As decay products, helium isotopes can clearly indicate the presence of tritium and alpha decaying isotopes in a closed system. This study presents the helium and neon measurements and their interpretation of long-term headspace gas investigations in L/ILW waste drums from Paks Nuclear Power Plant and closed vaults of the Radioactive Waste Treatment and Disposal Facility, Püspökszilágy, Hungary. Development of special sampling methods and preparation lines as well as isotope-analytical measurements of the headspace gas samples were done in the Hertelendi Laboratory of Environmental Studies in the ATOMKI. In the gas samples helium isotopes as well as neon isotopes have been determined mass spectrometrically. While neon content can be of atmospheric origin only, helium can be produced either by alpha decay (4He) or decay of tritium (3He). 3H/4He and He/Ne ratios have been used to determine the different origin of the helium isotopes. Helium isotope ratios always represented 3He enrichment in the headspace gases produced by the decay of the tritium in the waste. Using the recent 3He concentration in headspace gas the total amount of 3H restored in L/ILW vaults was estimated. The investigated seven different vaults were closed between 1979 and 1995 when they had been full with L/ILW. The calculated tritium activities based on the He measurements showed good agreement with the documented isotope inventory of the vaults. Typical tritium activity concentrations were between 0.1 and 10 Bq/L gas in the drums and between 10 and 1000 Bq/L gas in the vaults. Additionally, one drum showed a higher He/Ne ratio compared to air, which clearly indicates 4He excess, thus the presence an alpha source in the waste.  相似文献
