We examine collective dynamical locking effects for superconducting vortices and colloids interacting with square and triangular substrate arrays under a slowly rotated dc drive. A rich variety of lattice configurations associated with a series of steps in the velocity-force curves occur during the locking transitions. These include triangular, square, smectic, and disordered particle arrangements that can be identified using the structure factor. We show that the step widths vary with the ratio of the number of particles to the number of pinning sites. Unlike a static system, where matching effects occur at simple integer commensuration ratios, we find dynamical commensuration effects that arise when an integer number of particle chains flow between rows of pins. We identify two distinct types of locking as a function of substrate strength, distinguished by whether the particles flow along or between the pinning rows.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate that the origin of multiply reversed rectified vortex motion in an asymmetric pinning landscape not only is a consequence of the vortex-vortex interactions but also essentially depends on the ratio between the characteristic interaction distance and the period of the asymmetric pinning potential. We study four samples with different periods d of the asymmetric potential. For large d the dc voltage V(dc) recorded under a ac excitation indicates that the average vortex drift is from bigger to smaller dots for all explored positive fields. As d is reduced, a series of sign reversals in the dc response are observed as a function of field. We show that the number of sign reversals increases as d decreases. These findings are in agreement with recent computer simulations and illustrate the relevance of the different characteristic lengths for the vortex rectification effects.  相似文献

We demonstrate that the fluctuation theorem can be used to characterize plastic flow phases in collectively interacting particle assemblies driven over quenched disorder when strong fluctuations and crackling noise with 1/f α character occur. By measuring the frequency of entropy-destroying trajectories and the diffusivity near the threshold for motion, we map out the different dynamic phases and demonstrate that the fluctuation theorem holds in the strongly fluctuating plastic flow regime which was previously shown to be chaotic. For different driving rates and disorder strength, we find that it is possible to define an effective temperature which decreases with increasing drive, as expected for this type of system. When the size of the pinning sites is large, we identify specific regimes where the fluctuation theorem holds only at long times due to an excess of negative entropy events that occur when particles undergo circular motions within the traps. We discuss how the fluctuation theorem could be applied to plastic flow in other driven nonthermal systems with quenched disorder such as superconducting vortices, magnetic domain walls, Coulomb glasses, and earthquake models.  相似文献

The thermoresponsive polymer poly-N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAAM) was grafted in mesoporous SBA-15 silica. The grafting process consists of three steps: (i) increasing the amount of surface silanol groups of SBA-15 by hydroxylation, (ii) attachment of an anchor (1-(trichlorosilyl)-2-(m/p-(chloromethylphenyl)ethane) and finally (iii) the polymerization of the monomers (NIPAAM) onto the anchor. After each step, the materials were characterized regarding the porosity, using inert gas (argon, nitrogen) physisorption measurements. Also, the structure was investigated by small-angle X-ray diffraction analysis and thermogravimetric analysis was used for determination of the amount of grafted material. A total of 17% by weight of organic material was introduced in the porous host and the structure was preserved during the grafting process. Physisorption measurements revealed that the anchor is mainly located in the intrawall pores present in SBA-15. Consequently, the polymer is preferentially located in the intrawall pores or in the vicinity thereof. The final mesopore volume is 0.47 cm(3) g(-1) as compared to 0.96 cm(3) g(-1) for the pure SBA-15. The surprisingly large loss of mesopore volume and an almost constant mesopore diameter is consistent with a partial sealing of the mesopore volume in the composite materials. The potential thermocontrol combined with the large mesoporosity and the possible "storage space" provided by the sealed mesopore volume leads to a material with possibilities for various applications.  相似文献

A peak has been observed for the first time in the angular distributions of low energy electrons (Ec<5 eV) emitted under heavy-ion bombardment of solids. The peak energy and angle coincide with the peak energy and angle predicted recently for collective electron emission in heavy-ion-solid collisions.  相似文献
