On pathwise behavior of multiserver queues

In this paper, by exploiting recent results on the pathwise behavior of the workload process in single server, work conserving queues of theG/G/1/ type, we show that the workload of multiserver, work conserving queues ofG/G/m/ (m<) (andG/G/) queues satisfies an o(t) growth condition, provided that the time average of the work brought into the system is less thanm form < (and finite form=).     

Nonfactorization and the decaysD s +→φπ +,φρ + andφl + ν l

Using the experimentally measured values ofx=A ₂(0)/A ₁(0) andy=V(0)/A ₁(0) and the measured ratiosR _st=Γ(D _s ⁺ →φl ⁺ ν _l)/Γ(D _ins ⁺ →φπ ⁺) andR _h=Γ(D _s ⁺ →φρ ⁺)/Γ(D _s ⁺ →φπ ⁺), we present evidence for significant nonfactorization contribution in the decay amplitude forD _s ⁺ →φπ ⁺. We analyze the role of nonfactorization inD _s ⁺ →φρ ⁺ and conclude that present data onR _h are consistent with factorization inD _s ⁺ →φρ ⁺. A measurement of polarization inD _s ⁺ →φρ ⁺ would greatly assist our analysis.     

Local magnetism of Rh in Ni-Rh alloys near the critical composition for ferromagnetism

Local magnetic behaviour of Rh implanted into Ni-Rh alloys near the critical Rh compositionx=0.37 has been studied using the TDPAC method. The observed Curie-Weiss type local susceptibility reflects the presence of large d spin polarization around Rh yielding a total moment of 4.7 _B. Our results show that the magnetism of Rh in the alloys depends strongly on the number of Ni near neighbour atoms.     

Determination of hydrogen peroxide based on a metal dispersed sol-gel derived ceramic-graphite composite electrode

A new copper dispersed ceramic-graphite composite electrode was fabricated by the initial mixing of copper nitrate and (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxy silane (MPS) followed by stirring with graphite powder. The combination of the metal catalysis and the advantages of the ceramic composite favored the electrocatalytic reduction of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at a reduced overpotential of -0.2 V with good sensitivity, stability and reproducibility. The sensor showed a good linear response to H2O2 in the range from 8.3 x 10(-6) M to 2.0 x 10(-3) M with a correlation coefficient of 0.9989 and the detection limit was 6.2 x 10(-6) M (S/N =3).     

Adsorptive stripping voltammetric analysis of 2,4,6-tri(2′pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine at a mercury electrode

The redox behaviour of adsorbed species of 2,4,6-tri(2-pyridyl)-1,3-5-triazine (TPTZ) at the surface of a mercury electrode was examined using cycling voltammetry. Based on the adsorption and accumulation of TPTZ at the charged mercury surface cathodic adsorptive stripping voltammetry (CSV) is applied for the trace determination of TPTZ using a differential pulse (DP) technique. Experimental and operational parameters for the quantitative analysis of TPTZ are optimized and the detection limit was found to be 3×10^–9 mol/l. The effect of some interferences, e.g. organic compounds, cations and anions, are investigated.     

Cu(I)-mediated deoxygenation of N-oxides to amines

A mild and highly efficient deoxygenation of variety of N-oxides using an inexpensive CuX, or a CuX-Zn or CuX-Al couple is described.     

A simple and green procedure for the conjugate addition of thiols to conjugated alkenes employing polyethylene glycol (PEG) as an efficient recyclable medium

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) is found to be an inexpensive, nontoxic, environmentally friendly reaction medium for the conjugate addition of thiols to conjugated alkenes to afford the corresponding adducts in excellent yields under mild and neutral conditions. Products of undesirable side reactions resulting from polymerization are not observed. The use of PEG avoids the use of either acid or base catalysts for this conversion and moreover PEG can be recovered and reused.     

Biologically active compounds through catalysis: efficient synthesis of N-(heteroarylcarbonyl)-N'-(arylalkyl)piperazines

A practical route for the synthesis of new biologically active 5-HT(2 A) receptor antagonists has been developed. In only three catalytic steps, this class of central nervous system (CNS) active compounds can be synthesized efficiently with high diversity. As the initial step, an anti-Markovnikov addition of amines to styrenes provides an easy route to N-(arylalkyl)piperazines, which constitute the core structure of the active molecules. Here, base-catalyzed hydroamination reactions of styrenes with benzylated piperazine proceeded in high yield even at room temperature. After catalytic debenzylation, the free amines were successfully carbonylated with different aromatic and heteroaromatic halides and carbon monoxide to yield the desired compounds in good to excellent yields. The two key reactions, base-catalyzed hydroamination of styrenes and palladium-catalyzed aminocarbonylation of haloarenes/heterocycles, showed tolerance towards various functional groups, thereby demonstrating the potential to synthesize a wide variety of new derivatives of this promising class of pharmaceuticals.     

l-Proline catalyzed selective synthesis of 2-aryl-1-arylmethyl-1H-benzimidazoles

l-Proline (10 mol %) was found to be a versatile organocatalyst for the selective synthesis of 2-aryl-1-arylmethyl-1H-benzimidazoles from a wide range of substituted o-phenylenediamines and aldehydes in moderate to excellent isolated yields (32-95%) under mild conditions using chloroform as a solvent at ambient temperature.
