Quasielastic and inelastic neutron scattering on hydrated calcium silicate pastes

Using the inverse geometry spectrometer QENS at the Intense Pulsed Neutron Source of the Argonne National Laboratory, we collected quasielastic and inelastic neutron scattering spectra of hydrated tricalcium and dicalcium silicate, the main components of ordinary Portland cement. Data were obtained at different curing time, from a few hours to several months. Both the quasielastic and inelastic spectra have been analyzed at the same time according to the relaxing cage model, which is a model developed to describe the dynamics of water at supercooled temperatures. Short-time and long-time dynamics of hydration water in hydrated cement pastes as a function of the curing time have been simultaneously obtained. The results confirm the findings reported in previous experiments showing that it is possible to fit consistently the quasielastic and inelastic spectra giving insights on the effect of the curing time on the short-time vibrational dynamics of hydration water.     

Trinuclear and hexanuclear platinum clusters as building blocks for organometallic one-dimensional structures

The reaction between the new hexa- and trinuclear clusters [Pt6](CC-C6H4-CCH)2, (4) [[Pt6] = Pt6(CO)4(mu-PBu(t)2)4], and [Pt3]Cl, (6) [[Pt3] = Pt3(mu-PBu(t)2)3(CO)2], in CuI/Amine gives the thermally and air stable [Pt6](CC-C6H4-CC[Pt3])2 (7), where the cluster units are separated by conjugated 1,4-diethynylphenyl groups.     

Generation and intramolecular reactivity of acyl radicals from alkynylthiol esters under reducing tin-free conditions

Morphological and chemical characterization of weathering products on buried Sasanian glass from central Iraq

This paper discusses the morphological and chemical features of the weathering products on Sasanian glass finds excavated at the ancient Sasanian town of Veh Arda?īr, some 30 km south of Baghdad (Iraq), and dated from the third to the sixth century. All the considered fragments represent soda-lime glass, with MgO contents between 3% and 8%, resulting from the use of soda-rich plant ash as a flux; within this general frame, two productions can be distinguished due to their MgO to K₂O ratio. Four main alteration typologies were observed by visual examination of the excavated samples; these were studied by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis. Different alteration features were generally observed for samples belonging to the two compositional groups. In particular, samples with higher MgO to K₂O ratios show definitely thinner crusts, associated with alteration plugs going down into the glass. Moreover, gray or black crusts are related to the presence of manganese at significant levels in the original glass.

Per tali soluzioni vengono rilevate proprietà proiettivo-differenziali dei sistemi di linee principali e proprietà topologiche dei corrispondenti 5-tessuti.
