There is increasing interest in the role of measurement uncertainty in conformity assessment, particularly where measurements are in support of fair trade, health & safety and the environment. A lack of clarity, however, in treating measurement uncertainties and in setting specification limits for compliance may sometimes lead to drastic consequences. Examples concerning conformity assessment, particularly in the measurement of trace quantities (Cd in plastics and antibiotic trace residues in shrimps), are amongst cases identified in the ongoing EU project MetroTrade, which can be significant impediments to international trade. This paper considers the present status of the role of measurement uncertainty in conformity testing, covering both recent work in international standardisation and physical metrology (e.g. OIML recommendations on weighing). One conclusion is that, while much has been achieved, there still exists some work to be done in order to facilitate acceptance of conformity from both customer and supplier and avoid perceived barriers to trade and serious international trade disputes.Presented at the MetroTrade Workshop on Traceability and Measurement Uncertainty in Testing, 30–31 January 2003, Berlin, GermanyAn erratum to this article can be found at  相似文献

Radiative lifetimes have been determined for the 62 P 1 2/0 and 62 P 3 2/0 levels in Yb II using the method of laser-induced fluorescence from sputtered metal vapour. The results, 8.0(2)ns (62 P 1 2/0 ) and 6.3(3)ns (62 P 3 2/0 ), are compared with lifetimes obtained from ab initio manybody perturbation calculations.  相似文献

Abstract Metrological traceability of measurement results provides the comparability needed for reliable measurement in almost every aspect of our daily life, ranging from fundamental science, through health and safety to global trade. From the authors (a physicist) perspective and understanding of recent literature, measurements in chemistry compare the amount of analyte, are often made indirectly, are sometimes not fully traceable to the SI, and metrological traceability is perhaps not always the major concern of the practising analytical chemist. The present article examines which of these views are typically chemical, and which are common to both the physicist and the chemist. Much can be gained by formulating a common understanding of basic concepts of traceability of measurement results in meeting ever-increasing demands for comparability of measurement results in both traditional as well as new areas of technology and societal concern.Based on a lecture given by the author at a mini-symposium Emerging issues in metrology in chemistry organised by the IUPAC Analytical Chemistry Division and IUPAC Working Party for Harmonisation of Quality Assurance at IAEA Headquarters, Vienna, 17th February 2004.  相似文献

Raman and Raman optical activity (ROA) spectroscopy are used to study the solution‐phase structure of the glycan moiety of the protein ribonuclease B (RNase B). Spectral data of the intact glycan moiety of RNase B is obtained by subtracting high‐quality spectral data of RNase A, the non‐glycosylated form of the RNase, from the spectra of the glycoprotein. The remaining difference spectra are compared to spectra generated from Raman and ROA data of the constituent disaccharides of the RNase glycan, achieving convincing spectral overlap. The results show that ROA spectroscopy is able to extract detailed spectral data of the glycan moieties of proteins, provided that the non‐glycosylated isoform is available. Furthermore, good comparison between the full glycan spectrum and the regenerated spectra based on the disaccharide data lends great promise to ROA as a tool for the solution‐phase structural analysis of this structurally elusive class of biomolecules.  相似文献

A discussion in economic terms of common rules in conformity assessment based on measurement is given. The present work extends tools of sampling when using inspection by variable and attribute, such as the setting of acceptance quality limits (AQL) and limiting quality limits (LQL), by including an economic decision theory approach, leading, amongst other things, to a new ‘cost’ curve as a complement to the traditional operating characteristic curves of statistical significance testing. The methodology is of general applicability but is illustrated in the present work in the simple case of homogeneously pre-packaged goods priced linearly with the amount of content. The relation to the optimised uncertainty methodology is explained. Optimum strategies for the supplier are illustrated in terms of minimising production and testing costs, while at the same time maintaining satisfactory levels of customer satisfaction.
