The effect of capillary forces on immiscible two-phase flow in heterogeneous porous media 总被引:3,自引:3,他引:0
We consider the one-dimensional two-phase flow including capillary effects through a heterogeneous porous medium. The heterogeneity is due to the spatial variation of the absolute permeability and the porosity. Both these quantities are assumed to be piecewise constant. At interfaces where the rock properties are discontinuous, we derive, by a regularisation technique, conditions to match the values of the saturation on both sides. There are two conditions: a flux condition and an extended pressure condition. Applying these conditions we show that trapping of the wetting phase may occur near heterogeneities. To illustrate the behaviour of the saturation we consider a time-dependent diffusion problem without convection, a stationary convection-diffusion problem, and the full time-dependent convection-diffusion problem (numerically). In particular the last two problems explicitly show the trapping behaviour. 相似文献

We demonstrate the emergence of complexity from remarkably simple and ubiquitous systems: draining thin-film suspensions exhibiting a striking transition between two classes of self-organizing patterns. Vertical channels form when attractive forces lead to transient gelation, while horizontal bands result from granular mixtures. We propose an explanation whereby the generic physical mechanisms require only the existence of viscous and excluded-volume couplings among the particles, solvent, and substrate. System-specific, small inhomogeneities trigger large-scale pattern formation, through collective dynamics, where jamming plays a crucial role. Our results shed light on emergent complexity in bio- and geophysical processes and have implications for coatings and food industries. 相似文献

By employing a mechanically controllable break junction technique, we have realized an ideal single molecular linear actuator based on dithienylethene (DTE) based molecular architecture, which undergoes reversible photothermal isomerization when subjected to UV irradiation under ambient conditions. As a result, open form (compressed, UV OFF) and closed form (elongated, UV ON) of dithienylethene-based molecular junctions are achieved. Interestingly, the mechanical actuation is achieved without changing the conductance of the molecular junction around the Fermi level over several cycles, which is an essential property required for an ideal single molecular actuator. Our study demonstrates a unique example of achieving a perfect balance between tunneling width and barrier height change upon photothermal isomerization, resulting in no change in conductance but a change in the molecular length, which results in mechanical actuation at the single molecular level. 相似文献
