Production of squeezed states in a degenerate parametric amplifier

An analysis of the degenerate parametric amplifier including the quantisation of pump and signal modes is presented. It is shown that the fluctuations in one quadrature of the signal mode may be reduced at most by a factor of two. This is in contradistinction to analyses where the pump field is treated classically which overestimate the reduction in fluctuations possible.     

Thermotropic diacetylenic liquid crystals

Further studies are reported on polar diacetylenes with conjugated side chains which show liquid-crystalline behaviour. Results obtained using differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, and hot stage microscopy are reported. One group of materials forms a smectic liquid crystal phase and all polymerize from a nematic liquid crystal phase.     

Drift Mobility of Electrons in Pyrazoline-Containing Copolymers

Drift mobility of electrons in copolymers containing pyrazolyl fragment in the main or side chain of the copolymer is studied experimentally using the time-of-flight method. The mobility is an exponential function of the applied electric field, and its values for the copolymers range from 5 × 10^–7 to 2 × 10^–5 cm² V^–1 s^–1 at the field strength ranging from 5 × 10⁴ to 1 × 10⁶ V cm^–1. Based on the measured mobilities and the molecule parameters, which were obtained by a PM3 quantum-chemical calculation, the role of copolymer fragments in the transport of charge carriers is discussed.     

A spectrophotometric study of o,o'-dihydroxyazobenzene and its chelates with aluminum,gallium and indium

The composition of the chelates of aluminum, gallium and indium with o,o'-dihydroxyazobenzene has been established in acidic alcoholic -water mixtures to be pH dependent by means of spcctrophotometric measurements. Only chelates with a 1 : 1 and 2. : 1 ratio of o,o'-dlihydroxyazobenzene to metal are formed. The first acid dissociation constant of o,o'-dlihydroxyazobenzene and the formulas and stability constants for -the chelates were determined, The stability of the chelates increased in tle order indium, aluminum, gallium.
