Hypervirial analysis of enclosed quantum mechanical systems. IV. Further comments

New formal results regarding the hypervirial analysis of enclosed systems are given. Novel applications are presented and several previous equations are reformulated in a more appropriate form.     

From nitrides to carbides: topotactic synthesis of the eta-carbides Fe3Mo3C and Co3Mo3C

The molybdenum bimetallic interstitial carbides Fe(3)Mo(3)C and Co(3)Mo(3)C have been synthesized by temperature-programmed reaction (TPR) between the molybdenum bimetallic interstitial nitrides Fe(3)Mo(3)N and Co(3)Mo(3)N and a flowing mixture of CH(4) and H(2) diluted in Ar. These compounds have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, laser Raman spectroscopy, elemental analysis, energy dispersive analysis of X rays, thermal analysis (in air) and scanning electron microscopy (field emission). Their structures have been refined from X-ray powder diffraction data. These carbides crystallize in the cubic system, space group Fd3m[a= 11.11376(6) and 11.0697(3)[Angstrom] for Fe and Co compounds, respectively].     

A re-statement of the Hohenberg–Kohn theorem and its extension to finite subspaces

Bearing in mind the insight into the Hohenberg–Kohn theorem for Coulomb systems provided recently by Kryachko (Int J Quantum Chem 103:818, 2005), we present a re-statement of this theorem through an elaboration on Lieb’s proof as well as an extension of this theorem to finite subspaces. A preliminary observation of additive thermodynamic contribution of pendant arms to the complexation of calixarene derivatives with mercury(II)

An additive thermodynamic contribution of pendant arms to the complexation of calixarene derivatives with mercury(II) in acetonitrile is for the first time demonstrated.     

The effect of composition of parenteral solution on the thermal resistance of Bacillus stearothermophilus and Bacillus subtilis spores

Large-volume parenteral solutions were submitted to heat treatments after being inoculated with Bacillus stearothermophilus ATCC 7953 (T _r =121°C) and Bacillus subtilis ATCC 9372 (T _r =104.5°C) spores. The average decimal reduction time for B. stearothermophilus ranged from a D _121°C value of 1.31 to 3.14 min, in glucophysiologic and Ringer’s solutions respectively. For B. subtilis, D _104.5°C value increased from 0.69 to 1.37 min, in Ringer’s (pH=5.91) and 50% glucose (pH 3.05) solutions respectively. The z value ranged from 7.95°C (20% mannitol solution) to 13.14°C (50% glucose solution), corresponding to an activation energy (Ea) of 81.48 and 49.30 kcal/mol, respectively.     

Studies on monobactams II. Synthesis and β-lactamase inhibitory activity of 4α-methyl-3-[(thien-2-yl)-methylene]-2-azetidinone-1-sulfonate

Two monobactam derivatives, potassium 4-methyl-(3E)-[(thien-2-yl)methylene]-2-azetidinone-1-sulfonate and its (3Z)-isomer, were prepared and evaluated for their -lactamase inhibitory activities. Binding evaluation of isoform 1 fromCratylia mollis lectin to human mammary tissues

The phenomenon of altered carbohydrates in transformed cell surfaces has been studied through histochemical techniques using lectins. Specific binding patterns to normal and transformed mammary tissues were evaluated by Isoform 1 fromCratylia mollis lectin (Cra Iso 1). Protocols using a direct method, incubation of Cra Iso I conjugated to peroxidase (Cra Iso 1-Per) with mammary tissues, followed by diaminobenzidine and hydrogen peroxidase interaction, were performed. Neoplastic tissues, marked by Cra Iso 1, showed a higher intensity of staining than normal ones, in comparison withCanavalia ensiformis lectin, Concanavalin A (Con A), conjugated to peroxidase (Con A-Per). The assay with Cra Iso 1 also indicated a possible utilization of this lectin to characterize normal and transformed mammary cells.     

The algebra of differential operators on the circle and W KP (q)

Radul has recently introduced a map from the Lie algebra of differential operators on the circle of W _n . In this Letter, we extend this map to W _KP ^(q) , a recently introduced one-parameter deformation of W_KP - the second Hamiltonian structure of the KP hierarchy. We use this to give a short proof that W is the algebra of additional symmetries of the KP equation.     

Lower Bounds for the Lp-Norm in Terms of the Mellin Transform

Given a measurable function f on (0, ) with Mellin transformF(s), let |f|_p denote the L^p-norm of f with respect to the measuredx/x. We prove that under certain assumptions, for instanceif f is real and non-negative and F() converges for in an openinterval and F() 0, then wherec_p (2e)^–1. We derive similar inequalities for complex-valuedf, for the L^p-norm of the derivative of f, and for the supremumof real-valued f and of its derivative. The lower bounds areeminently applicable when f is a convolution product.     

A one-parameter family of hamiltonian structures for the KP hierarchy and a continuous deformation of the nonlinear WKP algebra

The KP hierarchy is hamiltonian relative to a one-parameter family of Poisson structures obtained from a generalized Adler map in the space of formal pseudodifferential symbols with noninteger powers. The resulting W-algebra is a one-parameter deformation of W_KP admitting a central extension for generic values of the parameter, reducing naturally to W _n for special values of the parameter, and contracting to the centrally extended W₁₊, W and further truncations. In the classical limit, all algebras in the one-parameter family are equivalent and isomorphic tow _KP.
