The effects on the radiation response of Harwell polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) dosimeters of dose-rate, radiation type, temperature during irradiation and post-irradiation storage, and post-irradiation stability, are of importance to the operators of commercial irradiation facilities.
This paper describes recent studies of the effects of some of these parameters on the radiation response of Harwell Red 4034, Amber 3042, and Gammachrome YR Perspex dosimeters, and provides data on batch to batch variation and shelf-life. 相似文献

Acetylene cations [HCCH](+) produced in the A(2)Σ(g)(+) state by extreme ultraviolet (XUV) photoionization are investigated theoretically, based on a mixed quantum-classical approach. We show that the decay of the A(2)Σ(g)(+) state occurs via both ultrafast isomerization and nonradiative electronic relaxation. We find a time scale for hydrogen migration and electronic decay of about 60 fs, in good agreement with recent XUV-pump/XUV-probe time-resolved experiments on the same system [Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 263002 (2010)]. Moreover, we predict an efficient vibrational energy redistribution mechanism that quickly transfers excess energy from the isomerization coordinates to slower modes in a few hundred femtoseconds, leading to a partial regeneration of acetylenelike conformations. 相似文献

Considering an Ar atom endohedrally sequestered in C60, a phenomenal increase in the photoionization cross section of the confined atom through the dominant outer 3p channel is predicted. The effect occurs owing to a powerful dynamical coherent interchannel coupling between the atomic and the cage ionization channels which redirects the bulk of oscillator strength from the giant surface plasmon to the atomic ionization. 相似文献

Within the micro-canonical ensemble it is well possible to identify phase-transitions in small systems. The consequences for the understanding of phase transitions in general are discussed by studying three realistic examples. We present micro-canonical calculations of the fragmentation phase transition in Na-, K-, and Fe- clusters of N = 200 to 3000 atoms at a constant pressure of 1 atm. The transition is clearly of first order with a backbending micro-canonical caloric curve T P (E, V (E,P)) = {?S(E, V (E,P))/?E P}?1. From the Maxwell construction of βP (E/N,P) = 1/T P one can simultaneously determine the transition temperature T tr, the specific latent heat q lat, and the specific entropy-loss Δs surf linked to the creation of intra-phase surfaces. T trΔs surf*N/(4πr ws 2 N eff 2/3 ) = γ gives the surface tension γ. Here 4πr ws 2 N eff 2/3 = ΣN i*4πr ws 2 m i 2/3 is the combined surface area of all fragments with a mass m i ≥ 2 and multiplicity N i. All these characteristic parameters are for ~1000 atoms similar to their experimentally known bulk values. This finding shows clearly that within micro-canonical thermodynamics phase transitions can unambiguously be determined without invoking the thermodynamic limit. However, one has carefully to distinguish observables which are defined for each phase-space point, like the values of the conserved quantities, from thermodynamic quantities like temperature, pressure, chemical potential, and also the concept of pure phases, which refer to the volume of the energy shell of the N-body phase-space and thus do not refer to a single phase-space point. At the same time we present here the first successful microscopic calculation of the surface tension in liquid sodium, potassium, and iron at a constant pressure of 1 atm. 相似文献

A CO(2) laser extraction system is described for in situ delta(13)C analysis of organic and inorganic materials. Carbonaceous compounds volatilized by the laser are quantitatively converted to CO(2) gas by a combustion furnace mounted after the sample chamber. Gases produced by the laser and combustion processes are swept by helium carrier gas and separated by a packed gas chromatography column prior to their introduction to an isotope ratio monitoring mass spectrometer. A sample of lentil bean was analyzed at a spatial resolution of 200 μm and yielded delta(13)C values with precision of +/- 0.3 per thousand. The accuracy of delta(13)C measurements was better than +/- 0.5 per thousand from NBS 22 (mineral oil), USGS 24 (graphite), and IAEA CO-1 (calcium carbonate). Non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) are used to calculate the vortex or rotational viscosity of fluids composed of uniaxial molecules. It is shown that the NEMD homogeneous spin flow algorithm proposed by Edberg, R., Evans, D. J., and Moriss, G. P., 1987, Molec. Phys., 62, 1357 considerably underestimates the vortex viscosity. A modified version of this algorithm is proposed and applied to liquid chlorine and nitrogen. The results are in good agreement with previous work using equilibrium or other NEMD methods, and also show that at high spin rates the vortex viscosity decreases with increase in magnitude of the external torque used to drive the spin flow. 相似文献
