Mössbauer measurements in mixed spinel ferrite Gax Fe1–x Ni Cr O4 (0x0.8), carried out between 4.2 and 298°K, show the presence of entropic spins in this system. Recent Monte Carlo calculations /4/ have predicted the presence of such spins in a frustrated spin glass lattice.  相似文献

Properties of materials determined by their size are indeed fascinating and form the basis of the emerging area of nanoscience. In this article, we examine the size dependent electronic structure and properties of nanocrystals of semiconductors and metals to illustrate this aspect. We then discuss the chemical reactivity of metal nanocrystals which is strongly dependent on the size not only because of the large surface area but also a result of the significantly different electronic structure of the small nanocrystals. Nanoscale catalysis of gold exemplifies this feature. Size also plays a role in the assembly of nanocrystals into crystalline arrays. While we owe the beginnings of size-dependent chemistry to the early studies of colloids, recent findings have added a new dimension to the subject.  相似文献

A novel and convenient route for the synthesis of biologically potent and rare L-hexose derivatives from D-glucose is described. Conversion of diacetone-alpha-D-glucose (14) into 1,2:3,5-di-O-isopropylidene-beta-L-idofuranose (19) was efficiently carried out in two steps. Orthogonal isopropylidene rearrangement of compound 19 led to 1,2:5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-beta-L-idofuranose (27), which underwent regioselective epimerization at the C3 position to give the L-talo- and 3-functionalized L-idofuranosyl derivatives. Hydrolysis of compound 19 under acidic conditions furnished 1,6-anhydro-beta-L-idopyranose (35) in excellent yield, which was successfully transformed into the corresponding L-allo, L-altro, L-gulo, and L-ido derivatives via regioselective benzylation, benzoylation, triflation and nucleophilic substitution as the key steps. Applications of these 1,6-anhydro-beta-L-hexopyranoses as valuable building blocks to the syntheses of 4-methylcoumarin-7-yl-alpha-L-iduronic acid and the disaccharide moieties of bleomycin A(2) as well as heparan sulfate are highlighted.  相似文献

The isolation and the X-ray crystal structure of physiological copper(II)-L-histidine complex are reported. The neutral five-coordinate complex shows distorted square pyramidal geometry with bidentate and tridentate L-histidine ligands. The basic character of the pendent imidazole group and H-bonding interactions of bidentate L-histidine ligand are important for copper transport. The unique structural features help explain the origin of its thermodynamic stability and kinetic reactivity in human blood along with the ternary copper(II)-amino acid complexes. The role of L-histidine in interaction with copper(II)-albumin, in cellular uptake of copper, and in treatment of Menkes disease can be studied using these results.  相似文献

The kinetics of CrIII-catalysed oxidation of L-valine by permanganate in alkaline medium at a constant ionic strength has been studied spectrophotometrically. The reaction between permanganate and L-valine in alkaline medium exhibits 2:1 stoichiometry (KMnO4:l-valine). The reaction shows first order dependence on [permanganate] and [chromium(III)], and less than unit order dependence each in [L-valine] and alkali concentrations under the experimental conditions. However the order in [L-valine] and [alkali] changes from first order to zero order as the concentrations change from lower to higher respectively. The results suggest the formation of a complex between L-valine and the hydroxylated species of CrIII. The complex reacts further with 1 mol of alkaline permanganate species in a rate-determining step, resulting in the formation of a free radical, which again reacts with 1 mol of alkaline permanganate species in a subsequent fast step to yield the products. The reaction constants involved in the mechanism were evaluated. The activation parameters with respect to the slow step of the mechanism were obtained and discussed. The title reaction has been utilised to analyse chromium(III) in the 26.0 ng cm–3–1.0 g cm–3 range.  相似文献

N-(2-hydroxyethyl) ethylenediamine reaction was observed over zeolite catalysts giving rise to only dehydrocyclization and over chromite catalysts showing dehydrocyclization together with dehydrogenation. The major product changes from the cyclized compound piperazine to pyrazine when the reactant is switched from zeolite to chromite catalyst. Comprehensive studies have been carried out on the extraction behaviour of thorium matrix vis-a-vis 17 trace metallic elements using a novel extractant viz. Cyanex-923. The near total extraction of thorium and quantitative separation of these metals has been established using inductively coupled argon plasma–atomic emission spectrometry (ICP–AES). The recovery of few representative elements has been confirmed by radio-active tracer studies. The studies carried out here have enabled determination of μg/l amounts of all analyte elements with a precision of better than 1% RSD with prior chemical separation from as low as 1 g thorium sample in just five chemical extractions.  相似文献

In this study, a simple method was developed to crosslink chitosan using poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with different molecular weights. Crosslinking of chitosan was confirmed by various spectral analyses. The differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) study indicated that the rigid crystalline structure of chitosan was decreased after crosslinking with PEG. The PEG-crosslinked chitosan (PEG-Ch) showed a pH-independent swelling behavior: swelled in both the simulated stomach (pH 1.1) and intestinal (pH 7.4) solutions. The swelling ratio of PEG-Ch increased significantly with a higher molecular weight of PEG used. In contrast, chitosan dissolved completely in a simulated stomach solution and showed a comparatively less swelling in a simulated intestinal solution. Thus, the prepared PEG-Ch could be a better biomaterial than chitosan in the development of orally sustained drug-delivery devices.  相似文献
