Some new aspects of benzyne and radical mediated cyclisations

KNH₂/NH₃ cyclisations of some alkoxy substituted arylhalides proceed in poor yields. This shortcoming may be overcome by the use of LDA/THF to effect the ring closure which may occur through benzyne or radical intermediates. Besides ortho halogenated dihydroanils and amides, the cyclisation of the benzylamine Schiff bases also provides a convenient route to isoquinoline alkaloids.

We give an asymptotic expansion for the central value of convolution powers and heat kernels on semisimple Lie groups.     

Source algebra equivalences for blocks¶of finite general linear groups over a fixed field

T. Jost proved that Donovan's conjecture holds for the unipotent blocks of the finite general linear groups over a fixed field. In this paper, we show that the Morita equivalences exhibited by Jost are in fact equivalences between the source algebras of the corresponding blocks, and thus that Puig's conjecture holds for the unipotent blocks of finite general groups over a fixed field. The Diels–Alder reactions of para-benzoquinone nitrogen-derivatives: an experimental and theoretical study

An experimental and theoretical study of the comparative reactivity and selectivity of the Diels–Alder reactions of para-benzoquinones and three nitrogen derivatives have been performed. The mono-oximes derivatives do not react under the tested reaction conditions, whereas the tosylated mono-oximes react slowly. However, the mono N-tosyl imines show excellent reactivity, and superior to the parent para-benzoquinones. DFT calculations support these experimental results.     

On blocks of strongly p-solvable groups

We prove that a block of a finite strongly p-solvable group G with defect group P is Morita equivalent to its corresponding block of N_G(Z(J (P))) via a bimodule with endopermutation source. Received: 7 December 2005     

Search for supersymmetry using final states with one lepton, jets, and missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS detector in √s=7 TeV pp collisions

This Letter presents the first search for supersymmetry in final states containing one isolated electron or muon, jets, and missing transverse momentum from √s=7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 35 pb(-1). No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed. Limits are set on the parameters of the minimal supergravity framework, extending previous limits. Within this framework, for A(0)=0 GeV, tanβ=3, and μ>0 and for equal squark and gluino masses, gluino masses below 700 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.     

Measurement of the W+ W- cross section in sqrt(s) = 7 TeV pp collisions with ATLAS

This Letter presents a measurement of the W+ W- production cross section in sqrt(s) = 7 TeV pp collisions by the ATLAS experiment, using 34 pb(-1) of integrated luminosity produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Selecting events with two isolated leptons, each either an electron or a muon, 8 candidate events are observed with an expected background of 1.7 ± 0.6 events. The measured cross section is 41(-16)(+20)(stat) ± 5(syst)±1(lumi) pb, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of 44 ± 3 pb calculated at next-to-leading order in QCD.
