Acyclic stereocontrol via asymmetric [2,3]-Wittig rearrangement with high enantio- and erythro-selectivity and its use in the chiral synthesis of insect pheromones

Such an asymmetric [2,3]-Wittig variant that is both highly enantio- and erythro-selective is described within the context of the chiral synthesis of the insect pheromones, (3$\text{S}$, 4$\text{S}$)-4-methyl-3-heptanol and ($\text{S}$)-4-methyl-3-heptanone.     

Isothermal vapor-liquid equilibria for the binary systems propylene-carbon dioxide,propylene-ethylene and propylene-ethane at high pressure

isothermal vapor-liquid equilibria for the binary systems propylene-carbon dioxide, propylene-ethylene and propylene-ethane have been measured at 283.15 and 298.15 K using a static method.The equilibrium data obtained have been correlated with the total-pressure method using both the Redlich-Kwong equation of state modified by Soave and the perturbation equation proposed by Gubbins and Twu. From normal probability plots of the residuals in the correlations versus the theoretical residuals in the normal distribution, the applicability of each of these two equations has been tested statistically.Furthermore, the fugacity coefficients calculated from the virial equation have been compared with those obtained from the correlations for the low-pressure regions.     

Optical absorption of Cu-centers in CdCl2 and CdBr2 single crystals

The absorption spectra of CdCl₂ and CdBr₂ single crystals doped with cuprous or cupric halides were measured. Optical bleaching of the absorption bands due to Cu⁺ gives rise to new absorption bands which suggest the conversion of Cu⁺→Cu²⁺. This was confirmed also by detecting the growth in ESR signals characteristic of Cu²⁺ centers.
