Ethyl pentafluoropropanethioate: A useful pentafluoropropionylating agent for amines and alcohols

Ethyl pentafluoropropanethioate, prepared by treating ethanethiol with hexafluoro-1, 2-epoxypropane in the presence of triethylamine, was found to be a convenient pentafluoropropionylating agent for amines and alcohols.     

Molecule-Responsive Fluorescent Sensors of α-Helix Peptides Bearing α-Cyclodextrin, Pyrene and Nitrobenzene Units in Their Side Chains

-Helix peptides bearing one unit of -cyclodextrin (-CD), one unit of pyrene and one unit of nitrobenzene (NB) in their side chains have been designed and synthesized as novel molecule-responsive devices.In both the CD-peptides, -PR17 and -PL17, the NB unit is separated from the CD unit by two turns of the helix. Two reference peptides (PL17, and -P17,) have also been synthesized. The circular dichroism studies in the peptide absorption region (200–250 nm)of -PR17 and -PL17 suggestthat the CD-peptides form stable-helixstructures (83–77%), which was destabilized by accommodating guest molecules (e.g., n-pentanol) into the CD cavity. It suggests that formation of intramolecular host–guest(CD–NB) complex stabilized thehelical structure and exogenous guest molecule excluded the appending NB moiety from inside to outside of the CD cavity, thereby causing destabilization of the helical structure and increasing the random coil content. The ICD spectra of the peptides in the pyrene and nitrobenzene absorption region (250–40 nm) suggest that NB forms inclusion complex with CD. The fluorescence studies revealed that the fluorescence of the pyrene unit is quenched by the NB unit in -PR17 and -PL17. The fluorescence intensity increases with increasing guest concentration for the CD-peptides.This guest-responsiveenhancement in the fluorescence intensity can be explained in terms of increased distance between the pyrene and NB moieties, which is caused by exclusion of the NB moiety from the CD cavity by guest accommodation. Using the guest-responsive fluorescence quenching properties of the CD-peptides, we have obtained binding constants for various short chain alkanols. -PL17 has higher binding affinity to the guest molecules than its isomer, -PR17, indicating that the location of functional groups on the peptide scaffold is important in molecule detection.     

Synthesis and tautomeric behavior of 3-(pyrazolylhydrazonomethyl)-2-oxo-1, 2-dihydroquinoxalines. Specification of hydrazone imine and diazenyl enamine forms

3-(Pyrazolylhydrazonomethyl)-2-oxo-1, 2-dihydroquinoxalines were synthesized, and their tautomer ratios between hydrazone imine and diazenyl enamine forms were specified by pmr spectral data.     

A frequency response model in multiquantum well lasers with unequilibrium carrier transport

A carrier transport model to explain the high-frequency response in high-speed MQW lasers is described. The ambipolar approximation, which is unsuitable for dealing with the high-speed carrier dynamics in MQW structures, was not adopted for small-signal analysis. The carrier transport effect can be characterized by four time constants: the electron transport time, _bmn; the hole transport time, _bmp; the electron escape time, _wbn; and the hole escape time, _wbp. The frequency response was interpreted as the sum of the constant response term due to the fast electron current and the roll-off term due to the slow hole transport time. The ratio of the electron contribution to the total response was proportional to the ratio of electron contribution to the total differential gain, , and reciprocally proportional to _n0 = 1 + _bmn/_wbn. The value of was calculated to be about 0.5 for typical MQW lasers. The roll-off frequency is mainly determined by . The ratio _p0 = 1 + _bmp/_wbp affects the resonant frequency and the damping rate in the high-bias condition.     

Non-linear structures in the non-critical NSR string

We investigate the Ward identities of theW symmetry in the super-Liouville theory coupled to the super-conformal matter of central charge . The theory is classified into two chiralities. For the positive chirality, all gravitationally dressed scaling operators are generated from theq–1 gravitational primaries by one of the ring generators in the R-sector acting on them repeatedly. After fixing the normalizations of the dressed scaling operators, we find that the Ward identities are expressed in the form of theusual W _q algebra constraints as in the bosonic case:W _n ^(k+1) ,=0, (k=1,...,q–1;nZ1–k), where the equations for even and oddn come from the currents in the NS- and the R-sector respectively. The non-linear terms come from the anomalous contributions at the boundaries of moduli space. The negative chirality is defined by interchanging the roles ofp andq. Then we get theW _p algebra constraints.     

Nitrosation of Phenolic Substrates under Mildly Basic Conditions: Selective Preparation of p-Quinone Monooximes and Their Antiviral Activities

Nitrosation of 3-methoxyphenol and 1-naphthol were examined under both acidic (NaNO(2)-EtCO(2)H-H(2)O) and basic (i-AmNO(2)-K(2)CO(3)-DMF) conditions. Acidic nitrosations afforded ortho-directed products, whereas para-directed nitrosations were observed under basic conditions to yield p-quinone monooximes. The basic para-directed nitrosation was further examined using 15 phenols, two naphthols, and four phenolic heterocyclics. A one-pot operation of the basic nitrosation followed by methylation with dimethyl sulfate gave the corresponding methyl ethers in high yield. Two p-quinone monooximes derived from 3-methoxyphenol and 8-hydroxyquinoline showed a moderate activity against HSV-1, and the latter oxime was also effective against HSV-2. On the other hand, p-quinone monooximes derived from methyl salicylate, 1-naphthol, 7-hydroxy-2-methylbenzo[b]furan, and 8-hydroxycoumarin showed the comparable activity to that of DDI against HIV-1.
