Angle-resolved photoemission spectra from Na adlayers on Al(111) reveal features which behave like quantum well resonances although the substrate provides no confining barrier. These features are observed in a narrow photon energy range where overlayer collective excitations cause resonant enhancement of the photoemission intensity. The quantum well behavior is shown to be due to surface resonances of the Na/Al system. The resonances are observable using photoemission because of spatial confinement and dynamical enhancement of the local electric field within the Na films. 相似文献

The dispersion of quantum-well resonances in ultrathin epitaxial Al films on Si(111) reveals energy- and wave vector-dependent reflection properties at the Al/Si interface. The substrate electronic structure strongly influences the phase shift of the electron waves upon reflection at the interface. Thus the details of the substrate electronic structure need to be taken into account for a complete analysis of metallic quantum-well resonances. Furthermore, the assumption of loss of parallel wave vector information upon reflection or transmission through a lattice-mismatched interface is challenged. Acquisition weighted (13)C-spectroscopic imaging with three spatial dimensions is demonstrated in the isolated, perfused rat heart. Experiments were performed at 11.75 T with a home-built double resonant (13)C-(1)H probehead. Three-dimensional chemical shift imaging was used to obtain (1)H-decoupled (13)C-spectra in 96-microl voxels in about 58 min. Acquisition weighting significantly reduced signal contamination and improved image quality, with no penalty in sensitivity. As a first application, infarcted hearts were studied during perfusion with [2-(13)C]-sodium acetate. The extent of the incorporation of the (13)C-label into glutamate allows us to distinguish intact and infarcted myocardium. Chemical shift images show a homogeneous glutamate distribution in intact tissue, but a negligible amount in the infarction scar. 相似文献

We describe the organocatalytic depolymerization of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), using a commercially available guanidine catalyst, 1,5,7‐triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec‐5‐ene (TBD). Postconsumer PET beverage bottles were used and processed with 1.0 mol % (0.7 wt %) of TBD and excess amount of ethylene glycol (EG) at 190 °C for 3.5 hours under atmospheric pressure to give bis(2‐hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) in 78% isolated yield. The catalyst efficiency was comparable to other metal acetate/alkoxide catalysts that are commonly used for depolymerization of PET. The BHET content in the glycolysis product was subject to the reagent loading. This catalyst influenced the rate of the depolymerization as well as the effective process temperature. We also demonstrated the recycling of the catalyst and the excess EG for more than 5 cycles. Computational and experimental studies showed that both TBD and EG activate PET through hydrogen bond formation/activation to facilitate this reaction. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
