We consider the prototype model for flow and transport of a concentration in porous media in an interior domain and couple it with a diffusion process in the corresponding unbounded exterior domain. To guarantee mass conservation and stability with respect to dominating convection also for a discrete solution we introduce a non symmetric coupling of the vertex-centered finite volume method (FVM) and the boundary element method (BEM). BEM approximates the unbounded exterior problem which avoids truncation of the domain. One can also interpret that the (unbounded) exterior problem “replaces” the boundary conditions of the interior problem. We aim to provide a first rigorous analysis of the discrete system for different model parameters; existence and uniqueness, convergence, and a priori estimates. Numerical examples illustrate the strength of the chosen method which is computational cheaper than the previous three field FVM-BEM couplings. (© 2016 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In this paper we establish characterization results for the continuous and discrete inf-sup conditions on product spaces.
The inf-sup condition for each component of the bilinear form involved and suitable decompositions of the pivot space in terms
of the associated null spaces are the key ingredients of our theorems. We illustrate the theory through its application to
bilinear forms arising from the variational formulations of several boundary value problems.

We report a series of meltable FeII complexes, which, depending on the length of aliphatic chains, display abrupt forward low-spin to high-spin transition or unprecedented melting-triggered reverse high-spin to low-spin transition on temperature rise. The reverse spin transition is perfectly reproducible on thermal cycling and the obtained materials are easily processable in the form of thin film owing to their soft-matter nature. We found that the discovered approach represents a potentially generalizable new avenue to control both the location in temperature and the direction of the spin transition in meltable compounds. 相似文献

In this paper we study the asymptotic expansion of sequences of multivariate Kantorovich type operators and their partial derivatives. In particular, we obtain the complete expansion for the Kantorovich Bernstein operators on the simplex and for two Kantorovich type modifications of the Bleimann, Butzer and Hahn operators that we introduce in the paper.

Here we report the discovery of tetracyclic benzothiazepines (BTZs) as highly potent and selective antimalarials along with the identification of the Plasmodium falciparum cytochrome bc1 complex as the primary functional target of this novel compound class. Investigation of the structure activity relationship within this previously unexplored chemical scaffold has yielded inhibitors with low nanomolar activity. A combined approach employing genetically modified parasites, biochemical profiling, and resistance selection validated inhibition of cytochrome bc1 activity, an essential component of the parasite respiratory chain and target of the widely used antimalarial drug atovaquone, as the mode of action of this novel compound class. Resistance to atovaquone is eroding the efficacy of this widely used antimalarial drug. Intriguingly, BTZ-based inhibitors retain activity against atovaquone resistant parasites, suggesting this chemical class may provide an alternative to atovaquone in combination therapy. 相似文献
