The CDHS neutrino detector has been used to measure events originating in a tank of liquid hydrogen and in the iron of the detector. Total cross-sections, differential cross-sections, and structure functions are given for hydrogen and compared with those in iron. The measurements are in agreement with the expectations of the quark parton model. No significant differences indicative of nuclear binding effects in corresponding structure functions of protons and iron are observed. This may be of special interest in the case of the sea structure functions, since large differences are expected in some models.  相似文献

In an experiment at the CERN ISR, a streamer chamber detector surrounding one of the intersection regions was triggered on large transverse momentum π0's by means of an array of lead-glass counters. The directions of charged particles and γ rays converted in lead-oxide plates inside the streamer chamber were measured. Data were taken at c.m. energy of √s = 53 GeV at two production angles of the high pTπ0 (90° and 53°). They indicate an enhancement of particles mostly in the hemisphere opposite to the π0. In the 53° data, a shift of this enhancement towards rapidities opposite to the rapidity of the π0 and confined to a ±30° azimuthal region around the collision plane is observed. In addition, a short-range angular correlation is evidenced between the high pTπ0 and the other collisions products (photons or charged particles). Two-particle correlations between charged particles produced in association with the high pTπ0 are found similar to those  相似文献

A search with radiochemical methods for long-lived superheavy elements in 238U targets bombarded with intense beams of136Xe ions produced negative results. A formation cross section of ≤1×10?35 cm2 is deduced at 95% confidence level for nuclides with half-lives between 1 and 200 d.  相似文献

A Kalman filtering technique is applied to the simultaneous detection of NH3 and CO2 with a diode-laser-based sensor operating at 1.53 μm. This technique is developed for improving the sensitivity and precision of trace gas concentration levels based on direct overtone laser absorption spectroscopy in the presence of various sensor noise sources. Filter performance is demonstrated to be adaptive to real-time noise and data statistics. Additionally, filter operation is successfully performed with dynamic ranges differing by three orders of magnitude. Details of Kalman filter theory applied to the acquired spectroscopic data are discussed. The effectiveness of this technique is evaluated by performing NH3 and CO2 concentration measurements and utilizing it to monitor varying ammonia and carbon dioxide levels in a bioreactor for water reprocessing, located at the NASA–Johnson Space Center. Results indicate a sensitivity enhancement of six times, in terms of improved minimum detectable absorption by the gas sensor. A new approach to detecting a weak photoacoustic signal in a gas medium is described. Instead of a gas-filled resonant acoustic cavity, the sound energy is accumulated in a high- Q crystal element. Feasibility experiments utilizing a quartz-watch tuning fork demonstrate a sensitivity of 1.2x10(-7) cm(-1) W/ radicalHz . A laser spectrometer based on difference-frequency generation in periodically poled LiNbO3 (PPLN) has been used to quantify atmospheric formaldehyde with a detection limit of 0.32 parts per billion in a given volume (ppbV) using specifically developed data-processing techniques. With state-of-the-art fiber-coupled diode-laser pump sources at 1083 nm and 1561 nm, difference-frequency radiation has been generated in the 3.53-μm (2832-cm-1) spectral region. Formaldehyde in ambient air in the 1- to 10-ppb V range has been detected continuously for nine and five days at two separate field sites in the Greater Houston area operated by the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission (TNRCC) and the Houston Regional Monitoring Corporation (HRM). The acquired spectroscopic data are compared with results obtained by a well-established wet-chemical o-(2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobenzyl) hydroxylamine (PFBHA) technique. Excitation processes of selected dye vapor-rare gas mixtures pumped by an electron beam have been studied. These experiments revealed the importance of effective collisional electron energy transfer pumping via a dense rare gas rather than a radiative energy transfer from an excimer laser gas mixture to achieve population inversion in an organic dye vapor. A long distance quantum teleportation experiment with a fiber-delayed Bell state measurement (BSM) is reported. The source creating the qubits to be teleported and the source creating the necessary entangled state are connected to the beam splitter realizing the BSM by two 2 km long optical fibers. In addition, the teleported qubits are analyzed after 2.2 km of optical fiber, in another laboratory separated by 55 m. Time-bin qubits carried by photons at 1310 nm are teleported onto photons at 1550 nm. The fidelity is of 77%, above the maximal value obtainable without entanglement. This is the first realization of an elementary quantum relay over significant distances, which will allow an increase in the range of quantum communication and quantum key distribution.  相似文献

The phase information obtained in photoacoustic experiments can be used to separate the signals originating from chemical species with overlapping absorption spectra. This approach was applied to quantify parts per million CO levels in propylene using quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy and a quantum cascade laser as an excitation source.
