Tissue imaging using matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) is a well-established technique that, in recent years, has seen wider adoption and novel application. Applications such imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) and biotyping are beginning to gain greater exposure and use; however, with limitations in optimization methods, producing the best result often relies on the ability to customize the physical characteristics of the instrumentation, a task that is challenging for most mass spectrometry laboratories. With this in mind, we have described the effect of making simple adjustments to the laser optics at the final collimating lens area, to adjust the laser beam size and shape in order to allow greater customization of the instrument for improving techniques such as IMS. We have therefore been able to demonstrate that improvements can be made without requiring the help of an electrical engineer or external funding in a way that only costs a small amount of time. 相似文献

Development of bioadhesive formulations for tissue fixation remains a challenge. The major drawbacks of available bioadhesives are low adhesion strength, toxic byproducts, and complexity of application onto affected tissues. In order to address these problems, this study has developed a hydrogel bioadhesive system based on poly amido amine (PAMAM) dendrimer, grafted (conjugated) with UV‐sensitive, 4‐[3‐(trifluoromethyl)‐3H‐diazirin‐3‐yl] benzyl bromide (PAMAM‐g‐diazirine). This particular diazirine molecule can be grafted to the surface amine groups of PAMAM in a one‐pot synthesis. Diazirine functionalities are carbene precursors that form covalent crosslinks with hydrated tissues after low‐power UV activation without necessity of free‐radical initiators. The rheological properties and adhesion strength to ex vivo tissues are highly controllable depending on diazirine grafting, hydrogel concentration, and UV dose intensity fitting variety types of tissues. Covalent bonds at the tissue/bioadhesive interface provide robust adhesive and mechanical strength in a highly hydrated environment. The free flowing hydrogel conversion to elastic adhesive after UV activation allows intimate contact with the ex vivo swine tissue surfaces with low in vitro cytotoxicity observed, making it a promising bioadhesive formulation toward clinical applications.

This work aimed to evaluate the total contents of polyphenolics (the Ribereau-Gayon–Maurié procedure), anthocyanins (using pH differential method) and tannins (the Nègre procedure) as well as the content of phenolic acids (using UPLC/MS chromatography), respectively of the wines obtained from three new Merlot clone candidates in the perennial clonal selection. The aforementioned chemical parameters were determined in the samples covering the period 2009–2012. In comparison both with the standard Merlot wine (mother vine) and the wines obtained from other two clone candidates, the Merlot wine of the clone candidate No. 022 was found to have the highest total content of all three examined components 1.89 ± 0.05 g/L (polyphenolics), 185.59 ± 5.00 mg/L (anthocyanins) and 1.11 ± 0.03 g/L (tannins), as well as six phenolic acids including gallic acid (25.49 ± 0.27 mg/L). These findings are in good agreement with the observed trend for the viticultural parameters indicating the clone candidate No. 022 as more promising than mother. 相似文献

On the quantum-channel capacity for orbital angular momentum-based free-space optical communications
Inspired by recent demonstrations of orbital angular momentum-(OAM)-based single-photon communications, we propose two quantum-channel models: (i)?the multidimensional quantum-key distribution model and (ii)?the quantum teleportation model. Both models employ operator-sum representation for Kraus operators derived from OAM eigenkets transition probabilities. These models are highly important for future development of quantum-error correction schemes to extend the transmission distance and improve date rates of OAM quantum communications. By using these models, we calculate corresponding quantum-channel capacities in the presence of atmospheric turbulence. 相似文献

Heavy quark energy loss in a hot QCD plasma is computed taking into account the competing effects due to suppression of zeroth order gluon radiation below the plasma frequency and the enhancement of gluon radiation due to first order medium induced bremsstrahlung. The results suggest a surprising degree of cancellation between the two medium effects for charm quarks and provide a possible explanation for the null effect observed by PHENIX in the prompt electron spectrum in Au+Au at √s = 130 AGeV. The use of ultrahigh column temperatures, up to 110 degrees C, in micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography was investigated. The number of plates generated per unit time increased from 0.22 to 12.8 plates/s for separations at 15 degrees C and 110 degrees C, respectively. Ultrahigh-temperature micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography was used for the separation of cyclic undecapeptides (cyclosporins). A minimum resolution of 1.39 was calculated for a critical peak pair at 110 degrees C, which is more than a 50% increase over resolution generated at 40 degrees C. During a run time of more than 90 min at 110 degrees C and at pH 9.3, no sample degradation or solvent boiling was observed. 相似文献
