The Tolman length: is it positive or negative?

By means of a large-scale molecular dynamics simulation, we show that the Tolman length, although positive, is much smaller in magnitude than previously reported. We found that the range of interparticle interaction can significantly affect the magnitude of the Tolman length. When the range of interaction is longer than five molecular diameters, the Tolman length is on the order of a few hundredths of the molecular diameter, rather than a few tenths known previously.     

Infrared Spectroscopy and Structure of Trigonal Zirconium Orthophosphates with Lanthanides and Actinides

Binary zirconium orthophosphates R_1/3Zr₂(PO₄)₃ and M_1/4Zr₂(PO₄)₃, where R = Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu; M = Th, U, have been synthesized and studied by IR spectroscopy [structural family of NaZr₂(PO₄)₃ (NZP)]. Vibrational analysis for the PO₄ tetrahedron and investigation of symmetry relations among trigonal NZP phases showed that ordering of lanthanide atoms in structures of NaZr₂(PO₄)₃ type with space group R c leads to symmetry reduced to P c. The lanthanide atoms occupy the 2b sites. The phosphorus atoms occupy two independent sites: 6f with C ₂ symmetry and 12g with C ₁ symmetry. Factor group analysis admits that the IR spectrum can contain eight v₃ bands and two v₁ bands of the stretching vibrations of the PO₄ ions. Parametric analysis of kinetic models. XIV. Autocatalytic trigger and oscillator in a flow system

In a flow catalytic reactor with an autocatalytic trigger as a kinetic subsystem, the conditions have been found, in which oscillations appear. Some peculiarities of the kinetic model dynamics, where the kinetic subsystem is an autocatalytic oscillator, are investigated.     

Simulation of the radiation-chemical transformations of acetic acid in aqueous solutions

A general model for the radiolysis of acetic acid and its aqueous solutions is proposed. The model adequately describes experimental data on the degradation of the acid and the formation of gases (H₂, CO₂, and CH₄) in aqueous solutions at various pH values.     

Stoichiometric number molecularity and multiplicity

On the basis of the polynomial to which the system of pseudo-steady-state equations corresponding to the nonlinear single-route mechanism is reduced (kinetic polynomial), the known concepts of stoichiometric number and molecularity have been studied. A set of the minimal-integer stoichiometric coefficients is shown to correspond to the kinetic characteristics in the neighborhood of equilibrium.

Self-oscillations in the cool-flame combustion of a model n-heptane-isooctane mixture

Self-oscillation found experimentally in the cool-flame combustion of a model n-heptane-i-octane mixture has been studied in dependence on the composition of the reaction mixture. Calculations based on the CSTR model are in qualitative agreement with experimental data.
