Thermodynamics of 2,2′-dipyridinium ion and its iron(II) complex in methanol—water mixture at 25°C

The enthalpies of formation of the 2,2′-dipyridinium ion and the 2,2′-dipyridyl-iron(II) complex in methanol—water media at 25°C have been determined by caloriumetry. The entropy-changes have been calculated combining the enthalpy values with the corresponding free-energy changes previously reported. The role of solvents on the thermodynamic parameters has been discussed.     

Isomeric ruthenium terpyridine complexes [Ru(trpy)(L)Cl]n+ containing the unsymmetrically bidentate acceptor L=3-amino-6-(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine. Synthesis, structures, electrochemistry, spectroscopy and DFT calculations

The isomeric title complexes were obtained in almost equimolar ratio from the reaction of Ru(trpy)Cl3 and L. Crystal structure analyses of the perchlorate hemihydrates, electrochemical and spectroscopic (NMR, UV/VIS, EPR) studies, supported by DFT calculations, reveal distinct differences between the isomeric redox series [1]n+(tetrazine-Nt trans to Cl) and [2]n+(pyrazolyl-Np trans to Cl; n= 0, 1, 2). The latter system with the pi acceptors trpy and tetrazine in the equatorial plane and the pyrazolyl and chloride donors in the axial positions exhibits facilitated oxidation, lower energy MLCT transitions, more balanced chelate coordination, and a higher g anisotropy in the oxidised (RuIII) state. According to partially resolved EPR spectra of one-electron reduced neutral compounds and they have the unpaired electron predominantly in the tetrazine ring of L.     

Chemically assisted ion beam etching of silicon and silicon dioxide using SF6

A chemical flux of sulfur hexafluoride (SF₆) in conjunction with low-energy Ar-ion bombardment has been used for chemically assisted ion beam etching (CAIBE) of silicon and silicon dioxide. The study has shown a large degree of independent control over the selectivity and anisotropy in dry etching. The total etch rate could be controlled by varying either the Ar-ion milling parameters or the chemical flux of SF₆. Etch rate enhancement of 7–8 for silicon and 3–4 for silicon dioxide have been obtained over pure physical etching.     

Reversed phase chromatographic separation of zirconium,niobium and hafnium tracers with HDEHP

Effective separation of the congeneric pair of elements, zirconium and hafnium and also niobium which was in admixtures with zirconium as daughter in its isotopic form were achieved through reversed phase column and paper extraction chromatographic procedures using di-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (HDEHP) as the liquid exchanger. In reversed phase column chromatographic separation, the tracers,⁹⁵Zr,⁹⁵Nb and^175,181Hf, were extracted by HDEHP impregnated on kieselguhr and were sequentially eluted with 6N H₂SO₄+xN oxalic acid+H₂O₂(where x=0.1, 0.5 and 2). Similarly, in reversed phase paper chromatographic study in which a coating of HDEHP on Whatman No. 1 chromatographic paper was used as stationary phase, the mobile phase, 18N H₂SO₄+0.1N oxalic acid + H₂O₂, helped in separating the elements with favorable separation factors. Under the optimal conditions, the separation and decontamination of the elements in both methods were found to be quantitative, as verified by -spectrometric studies.     

Domino "[3+3]-cyclization-homo-Michael" reactions of 1,3-bissilyl enol ethers with 1,1-diacylcyclopropanes

The Lewis acid mediated domino "[3+3]-cyclization-homo-Michael" reaction of 1,3-bissilyl enol ethers with 1,1-diacylcyclopropanes allows an efficient one-pot synthesis of functionalized salicylates containing a halogenated side chain. A great variety of substitution patterns could be realized by variation of the starting materials and of the Lewis acid. The mechanism of the domino process was studied.     

Certain bilateral generating relations for generalized hypergeometric functions

Recently, we introduced a class of generalized hypergeometric functionsI n:(b _q)/α:(a _p) (x, w) by using a difference operator Δ _x,w , where . In this paper an attempt has been made to obtain some bilateral generating relations associated withI _n ^ga (x, w). Each result is followed by its applications to the classical orthogonal polynomials.     

What a difference ancillary thienyl makes: unexpected additional stabilization of the diruthenium(III,II) but not the diosmium(III,II) mixed-valent state in tetrazine ligand-bridged complexes

The Ru(2)(III,II) mixed-valent state is strongly stabilized in [(bpy)(2)Ru(mu-bttz)Ru(bpy)(2)](5+) (3(5+), bttz = 3,6-bis(2-thienyl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine, as evident from lowered oxidation potentials and isolability, a strongly increased comproportionation constant K(c) = 10(16.6), and a high-energy intervalence charge transfer band at 10100 cm(-1). Curiously, no such effects were observed for the diosmium(III,II) analogue, whereas the related systems [(bpy)(2)M(mu-bmptz)M(bpy)(2)](5+), bmptz = 3,6-bis(4-methyl-2-pyridyl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine, exhibit conventional behavior, i.e., a slightly higher K(c) value of the Os(2)(III,II) analogue. EPR signals were observed at 4 K for 3(5+) but not for the other mixed-valent species, and high-frequency (285 GHz) EPR was employed to study the diruthenium(II) radical complexes 2(3+) and 3(3+).     

Thermodynamics of 1,10-phenanthrolinium ion and ferrous-1,10 phenanthroline complex in dioxane—water and ethanol—water at 25°c

Enthalpies of formation of 1,10-phenanthrolinium ion and ferrous-1,10-phenanthroline (tris) complex in dioxane—water and ethanol—water media at 25°C have been determined by calorimetry. Results are discussed in the light of ion—solvent and solvent—solvent interactions.
