Landau damping of ion-acoustic waves with simultaneous effects of non-extensivity and non-thermality in the presence of hybrid Cairns-Tsallis distributed electrons

The dispersion properties and Landau damping rate of ion-acoustic waves (IAWs) with the hybrid Cairns-Tsallis distributed (CTD) electrons and Maxwellian ions are investigated using the plasma kinetic model based on Vlasov-Poisson's equations. For both super-extensive (q < 1) and sub-extensive (q > 1) plasmas, the dielectric response function, real frequency, and Landau damping rate of IAWs are derived. By taking the effect of θ_{i, e} (ion-to-electron temperature ratio) into account, it is found that with the increase of ion temperature, the real frequency and wave dispersion effects increase as well (for both super-extensive and sub-extensive cases). Exploring the properties of the Landau damping rate of IAWs with the simultaneous presence of non-thermal parameter α and non-extensive parameter q, a comparison of numerical and analytical results is presented. It is found that in different ranges of θ_{e, i} (electron-to-ion temperature ratio), on decreasing the values of the non-extensive parameter and increasing values of the non-thermal parameter, the weak damping rate is observed (vice versa) in super-extensive or super-thermal plasma, although the trend of the damping rate in sub-thermal plasma is similar (as in the case of super-thermal plasma) but is less weak. It is further revealed that the damping rate of IAWs in thermal plasmas (Maxwellian) is stronger than the damping rate of IAWs in the case of non-thermal plasmas (CTD). The current study is applicable to provide deep insight and further allow the exploration of electrostatic plasma modes in different space and laboratory plasma environments where the hybrid CTD plasma exists.

Spectrophotometric determination of tranexamic acid in pharmaceutical bulk and dosage forms.

In this study, a simple, fast, accurate and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of tranexamic acid in bulk and pharmaceutical preparations. The method is based on the reaction of ninhydrin with the primary amino group of tranexamic acid in the basic medium at pH 8.0. The reaction produces a bluish-purple color which absorbs maximally at 565 nm. Beer's law was obeyed in the range of 3-40 microg ml(-1) with molar absorptivity of 5.093 x 10(3) L mol(-1) cm(-1). The effects of various factors such as temperature, heating time, concentration of reagent, color stability and interferences were investigated to optimize the procedure. The results have been validated analytically and statistically. The proposed method has been applied for the determination of tranexamic acid in bulk and pharmaceutical preparations with good results.     

Integration of Markov and Linear Programming Models to Assess the Farmgate and National Consequences of Adopting New Bovine Reproductive Technologies in the United Kingdom Agriculture

Despite many advances in biotechnology being futuristic, in some industries such technological improvements are now becoming generally available for absorption into commercial practice. The new reproductive technologies for bovine animals are such an example. For a regulated industry like agriculture, an ex ante evaluation of the impact of their adoption is the concern of policy makers. This paper describes a modelling strategy devised to assess these impacts, using a sequence of stochastic, financial and linear programming models. A set of individual farm type models were developed and later extended to a national model to simulate the interactions that occur between dairy and beef enterprises and the competition between them for resources on individual farms. Restraints reflecting national policies such as quotas on milk production and industry support through subsidies are built into the model to explore several scenarios. These models are used to assess the impact of new technologies on dairy and beef production nationally and for regions which have been identified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.     

Preconditioners for Incompressible Navier-Stokes Solvers

<正>In this paper we give an overview of the present state of fast solvers for the solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations discretized by the finite element method and linearized by Newton or Picard's method.It is shown that block preconditioners form an excellent approach for the solution,however if the grids are not to fine preconditioning with a Saddle point ILU matrix(SILU) may be an attractive alternative. The applicability of all methods to stabilized elements is investigated.In case of the stand-alone Stokes equations special preconditioners increase the efficiency considerably.     

Raman Spectroscopy of Biological Tissues

Abstract

This article reviews some of the recent advances in Raman spectroscopy, in areas related to natural tissues and cell biology. It summarizes some of the most widely used peak frequencies and their assignments. The aim of this study is to prepare a database of molecular fingerprints, which will help researchers in defining the chemical structure of the biological tissues introducing most of the important peaks present in the natural tissues. In spite of applying different methods, there seems to be a considerable similarity in defining the peaks of identical areas of the spectra. As a result, it is believed that preparing a unique collection of the frequencies encountered in Raman spectroscopic studies can lead to significant improvements both in the quantity and quality of spectral data and their outcomes. This article is the first review of its kind to provide a precise database on the most important Raman characteristic peak frequencies for researchers aiming to analyze natural tissues by Raman spectroscopy and will especially be of considerable assistance to those who are focusing on the analysis of cancerous tissues by Raman spectroscopy.     

Langmuir probe and spectroscopic studies of RF generated helium-nitrogen mixture plasma

This paper reports the effect of helium percentage variation in a capacitive RF helium-nitrogen mixture plasma on various plasma parameters and concentration of nitrogen active species (N₂(C³Π _u) and N₂ ⁺(B²Σ _u ⁺)). Langmuir probe is used for determination of electron energy distribution functions, effective electron temperature, plasma potential and electron density. Optical emission spectroscopy is used for determination of electron temperature from Boltzmann's plot of He–I lines and the relative changes in the concentration of active species by measuring the emission intensities of nitrogen (0-0) bands of the second positive and the first negative systems. The results demonstrate that electron temperature, electron density and concentration of active species increase significantly with increase in helium percentage in the mixture and RF power.
