Incoherence correction strategies in statistical matching

Several economic applications require to consider different data sources and to integrate the information coming from them. This paper focuses on statistical matching, in particular we deal with incoherences. In fact, when logical constraints among the variables are present incoherencies on the probability evaluations can arise. The aim of this paper is to remove such incoherences by using different methods based on distances minimization or least commitment imprecise probabilities extensions. An illustrative example shows peculiarities of the different correction methods. Finally, limited to pseudo distance minimization, we performed a systematic comparison through a simulation study.     

Counter‐Rotating Spin‐Polarised Ring Currents in Odd‐Electron Carbocycles

We propose a molecular‐orbital model to explain how majority and minority spins in odd‐π‐electron carbocycles sustain counter‐rotating magnetic‐field‐induced ring currents. The model is based on the ipsocentric approach to magnetic response, in which ring currents are dominated by frontier‐orbital contributions obeying angular‐momentum selection rules. Coupled unrestricted Hartree–Fock ab initio calculations of the ring‐current responses for singly charged benzene and planarised cyclo‐octatetraene ions confirm the predictions of the qualitative model, and are consistent with correlated MP2 spin‐polarised current calculations.     

Design and synthesis of novel polycycles based on the 3H‐pyrrolo/6,7‐dihydropyrido[1,2‐a]indole scaffold as templates for pharmaceutical development

In the course of our work aimed at developing novel heterocycles of pharmaceutical interest, we designed and synthesized several polycyclic templates as potential substrates to be used in drug design. We obtained a set of condensed ring systems as versatile structural platforms to generate potential DNA‐interactive agents and/or reversible inhibitors of enzymes such as topoisomerases, poly(ADP‐ribose) polymerase‐1 (PARP‐1), telomerase, and, in particular, cyclin dependent kinases. Herein, we report the design, synthesis, structural investigation, and preliminary DNA‐binding affinity of these heteroaromatic systems. J. Heterocyclic Chem., (2011).     

Handling the valuation of the predicates in a fuzzy model

Given a fuzzy model, and therefore a graded valuation of the predicates, several handlings of such a valuation are possible. For example, we can change the set of truth values, modify the scale, cut the predicates, and identify truth values. In this exploratory paper we analyze some of the properties preserved under these handlings. To do this we refer to an approach to fuzzy semantics in which the valuation structures can vary freely inside a given type.     

On the effect of tilted roof reflectors in Martin-Puplett spectrometers

In this paper we analyze theoretically and experimentally the effect of tilt of the roof mirrors in a double pendulum Martin-Puplett Polarizing Interferometer (MPI), focusing on the polarization of the interfering beams. In principle, the tilt affects the efficiency and polarimetric properties of the interferometer. The case of a moderate resolution spectrometer is analysed in detail. Using the Stokes formalism we recover the analytical expressions for the orientation angle and the ellipticity of the beam reflected from a metallic surface, and we compute these quantities for the roof-mirror of a MPI. We find that the polarization rotation and depolarization are small. Using the Jones formalism we propagate their effect on the measured interferogram and spectrum, and demonstrate that the performance degradation is small compared to other systematic effects.
