Janus nanoparticles (JNPs) offer unique features, including the precisely controlled distribution of compositions, surface charges, dipole moments, modular and combined functionalities, which enable excellent applications that are unavailable to their symmetrical counterparts. Assemblies of NPs exhibit coupled optical, electronic and magnetic properties that are different from single NPs. Herein, we report a new class of double-layered plasmonic–magnetic vesicle assembled from Janus amphiphilic Au-Fe3O4 NPs grafted with polymer brushes of different hydrophilicity on Au and Fe3O4 surfaces separately. Like liposomes, the vesicle shell is composed of two layers of Au-Fe3O4 NPs in opposite direction, and the orientation of Au or Fe3O4 in the shell can be well controlled by exploiting the amphiphilic property of the two types of polymers.  相似文献

In computer graphics and geometric modeling, shapes are often represented by triangular meshes (also called 3D meshes or manifold triangulations). The quadrangulation of a triangular mesh has wide applications. In this paper, we present a novel method of quading a closed orientable triangular mesh into a quasi-regular quadrangulation, i.e., a quadrangulation that only contains vertices of degree four or five. The quasi-regular quadrangulation produced by our method also has the property that the number of quads of the quadrangulation is the smallest among all the quasi-regular quadrangulations. In addition, by constructing the so-called orthogonal system of cycles our method is more effective to control the quality of the quadrangulation.  相似文献

Large reductions in the thermal conductivity of thermoelectrics using nanostructures have been widely demonstrated. Some enhancements in the thermopower through nanostructuring have also been reported. However, these improvements are generally offset by large drops in the electrical conductivity due to a drastic reduction in the mobility. Here, we show that large enhancements in the thermopower and electrical conductivity of half-Heusler (HH) phases can be achieved simultaneously at high temperatures through coherent insertion of nanometer scale full-Heusler (FH) inclusions within the matrix. The enhancements in the thermopower of the HH/FH nanocomposites arise from drastic reductions in the "effective" carrier concentration around 300 K. Surprisingly, the mobility increases drastically, which compensates for the decrease in the carrier concentration and minimizes the drop in the electrical conductivity. Interestingly, the carrier concentration in HH/FH nanocomposites increases rapidly with temperature, matching that of the HH matrix at high temperatures, whereas the temperature dependence of the mobility significantly deviates from the typical T(-α) law and slowly decreases (linearly) with rising temperature. This remarkable interplay between the temperature dependence of the carrier concentration and mobility in the nanocomposites results in large increases in the power factor at 775 K. In addition, the embedded FH nanostructures also induce moderate reductions in the thermal conductivity leading to drastic increases in the ZT of HH(1 - x)/FH(x) nanocomposites at 775 K. By combining transmission electron microscopy and charge transport data, we propose a possible charge carrier scattering mechanism at the HH/FH interfaces leading to the observed anomalous electronic transport in the synthesized HH(1 - x)/FH(x) nanocomposites.  相似文献

Fluorescence-based assays and detection techniques are among the most highly sensitive and popular biological tests for researchers. To match the needs of research and the clinic, detection limits and specificities need to improve, however. One mechanism is to decrease non-specific background signals, which is most efficiently done by increasing fluorescence quenching abilities. Reports in the literature of theoretical and experimental work have shown that metallic gold surfaces and nanoparticles are ultra-efficient fluorescence quenchers. Based on these findings, subsequent reports have described gold nanoparticle fluorescence-based activatable probes that were designed to increase fluorescence intensity based on a range of stimuli. In this way, these probes can detect and signify assorted biomarkers and changes in environmental conditions. In this review, we explore the various factors and theoretical models that affect gold nanoparticle fluorescence quenching, explore current uses of activatable probes, and propose an engineering approach for future development of fluorescence based gold nanoparticle activatable probes.  相似文献
