We propose a new material consisting of a dendrion copolymer formed from (a) a water-soluble dendritic polymer and (b) a hydrophobic backbone. Using molecular dynamics simulations techniques, we determine the structure and dynamics of the dendrion formed by second-generation Fréchet polyaryl ethereal dendrimer as the hydrophilic component and linear polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) as the hydrophobic polymer, with 5 and 10 wt % of water. We find that this material produces a well-developed nanoscale structure in which water forms a continuous nanophase, making this new family of compounds promising candidates for applications in fuel cell membranes. We find that the water molecules are incorporated into the dendrimer block of the copolymer to form a nanophase-segregated structure. The well-developed nanophase-segregated structures rendered by this material have characteristic dimensions of segregation ( approximately 30 Angstrom) and dendrimer conformational properties that are independent of water content. Calculations of water dynamics and proton transport in these nanophase-segregated structures indicate that the dendrion copolymer membrane with 10 wt % of water content has a water structure and transport properties equivalent to that of the hydrated Nafion membrane with 20 wt % of water content.  相似文献

A branching ratio of 1.6 +/- 0.3 for S(3P)/S(1D) is obtained for the dissociation of CS2 with very low fluence 193 nm laser (less than 2 mJ/cm2), in which the S(3P) and S(1D) have been state-selectively ionized using VUV lasers at different wavelengths. The anisotropy parameters betamax(3P) = 0.8 and betamax(1D) = 1.9 indicate that these channels are preferentially populated at different geometries and the lifetime is very short.  相似文献

Chemical shift and 1J(117,119Sn, 13C) data from cross polarization magic angle spinning (CPMAS) proton-decoupled solid-state 13C NMR experiments are given for the methyltin carbon in (Me2SnS)3, Me3SnOAc, Me2S(acetylacetonate)2, Me2SnCl2· 2(dimethylsulfoxide), and amorphous (Me2SnO)n. The relationship between the magnitude of the coupling constant and the coordination at tin is examined by reference to X-ray structure data. The tin-methyl 13C chemical shift was sensitive to slight variations in bond angles and bond lengths. The presence of isotopically abundant NMR-active nuclei in the molecule broadens lines, and can prevent resolution of the J coupled interaction.  相似文献

Cytochrome P-450 isozymes represent a critical component of nature’s spectrum of detoxification catalysts that could be exploited for bioremediation. The ethanol-inducible human cytochrome P-450 2E1 serves as a model eukaryotic P-450 that complements the bacterial P-450 cam in dehalogenation and detoxification of environmental pollutants. We explored the construction of novel chimeric P-450s using cytochrome P-450 camC and 2E1 genes. For construction of chimera 1 (478 amino acids, 55.14 kDa), 145 amino acids from the N-terminus of P-450 2E1 protein (493 amino acids, 56.84 kDa) were replaced with 130 amino acids from the N-terminus of P-450 camC protein (415 amino acids, 46.66 kDa). In chimera 2 (525 amino acids, 60.24 kDa) the strategy involves replacement of 28 amino acids in the C-terminus of chimera 1 with 75 amino acids from the C-terminus of P-450 camC gene. Homology models of both the chimeric proteins were developed using SWISS-MODEL based on the known crystal structure of cytochrome P-450 camC, BM-3, 1DT6A, and 2C17A. The models indicated that the proposed heme-binding site was intact, which is inevitable for catalytic activity of cytochrome P-450s. The expression of chimera 1 and 2 genes in Escherichia coli DH5α was evident from light-pink cell pellets, protein band in sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and diagnostic carbon monoxide-difference spectra. Our studies show that strategies can be developed to exploit the natural diversity of the P-450 superfamily to generate chimeric biocatalysts that would provide new templates amenable to directed evolution.  相似文献

Summary. Early research investigating the effects of L-carnitine supplementation has examined its role in substrate metabolism and in acute exercise performance. These studies have yielded equivocal findings, partially due to difficulties in increasing muscle carnitine concentrations. However, recent studies have proposed that L-carnitine may play a different role in exercise physiology, and preliminary results have been encouraging. Current investigations have theorized that L-carnitine supplementation facilitates exercise recovery. Proposed mechanism is as follows: 1) increased serum carnitine concentration enhances capillary endothelial function; 2) increased blood flow and reduced hypoxia mitigate the cascade of ensuing, destructive chemical events following exercise; 3) thus allowing reduced structural damage of skeletal muscle mediated by more intact receptors in muscle needed for improved protein signaling. This paradigm explains decreased markers of purine catabolism, free radical formation, and muscle tissue disruption after resistance exercise and the increased repair of muscle proteins following long-term L-carnitine supplementation.  相似文献

Pore networks that include biconical pore segments are frequently used to model two-phase flow. In this work, we describe in detail the displacement of a fluid-fluid interface in such a pore segment. We assume sharp edges in the throat, inlet, and outlet of the pore segment to be the limiting cases of round edges, the radii of which vanish. We account for interfacial and lineal tensions that cause nonconstant contact angles. For zero lineal tension, we provide analytical solutions for flow induced by changing infinitesimally slowly either capillary pressure or the volume of one fluid. In diverging and converging cones, the common line among the two fluids and the solid phase slides while it is pinned in the throat, inlet, and outlet. We observe hysteresis within the pore segment, and drainage entry pressures deviate from prior work.  相似文献

A self-consistent estimation method for the thermochemical properties of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) is presented. This method is based on enthalpies of formation (DeltaHf(degrees), entropies (S(degrees)298, and heat capacities (C(degrees)p obtained from B3LYP/6-31G(d) calculations of the total energies and frequencies for 139 PAHs, including C(60) and C(70) fullerenes. The enthalpies of formation were calculated using an optimized set of homodesmic reactions given the available experimental DeltaHf(degrees) of PAHs. The theoretical entropies were compared with the existing experimental entropies, and some inconsistencies in the experimental data were identified. The estimation method presented here is a systematic extension of the widely employed atom-centered group additivity method originally proposed by Benson. This new method is based on bond-centered groups that define bonds linking two atom-centered groups and specify the size of the rings to which they belong. In addition, a term to describe the resonance energy is included. The thermochemical properties of PAHs up to C(70) fullerene are estimated with a mean average deviation of 2.8 kcal mol(-1) in DeltaHf(degrees), 0.7 cal K(-1) mol(-1) in S(degrees)298, and about 0.5 cal K(-1) mol(-1) in the C(degrees)p. This bond-centered group additivity method for the thermochemical properties of PAHs significantly expands both the range of systems that can be estimated and the accuracy of the estimations. The results of this work also allow us to assess the quality of available experimental data. For example, there are strong indications that the literature DeltaHf(degrees)of benzo[k]fluoranthene is about 10 kcal mol(-1) too low.  相似文献
