In this paper we describe a technique for the determination of 25 elements in natural zirconolite using energy-dispersive analytical electron microscopy (AEM). The method presented here allows one to quantitatively investigate the chemistry of submicron-scale zones in complex oxide minerals. The effects of electron channeling, thickness variability and variations in detector resolution were minimized by using a controlled set of operating procedures and instrument parameters. To provide a high level of accurayy, kATI-factors were determined from standards for most of the 25 elements of interest, including all of the major elements. Each analytical spectrum is reduced to a set of raw peak counts (and errors) using a digital top-hat filter to suppress background followed by multiple least squares fitting of reference spectra. Counting times of 12–15 min per analysis were required to provide suitable counting statistics. Results are presented for zirconolite samples from the contact metamorphic aureole of the Bergell granodiorite intrusion, Switzerland-Italy. A comparison of 43 AEM analyses with 15 analyses obtained by wavelength-dispersive electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) shows that there is excellent agreement between the two data sets in the amounts of individual elements present, chemical trends and overall stoichiometry. An assessment of the combined data set shows that the major substitution mechanisms in the Bergell samples are coupled substitutions involving the M5,6- and M8-sites of the zirconolite structure: M8Ca2+ + M5,6Ti4+M8REE3+ + M5,6(Al,Fe)3+ and M8Ca2+ + M5,6Ti4+M8(Th,U)4+ + M5,6 (Mg,Fe)2+.  相似文献

A complete classification of thephysical modular invariant partition functions for the WZNW models is known for very few affine algebras and levels, the most significant being all levels ofSU(2), and level 1 of all simple algebras. In this paper we solve the classification problem forSU(3) modular invariant partition functions, all levels. Melt failure of a commercial ABS polymer in uniaxial extension over ranges of elongation rate ([(e)\dot] = 0.01 - 1.0 s - 1\dot \varepsilon = 0.01 - 1.0\,{\rm s}^{ - 1} ) and temperature (140-200 °C) was investigated. Four methods of experimental and numerical calculation for determination of modes and criteria of melt failure in uniaxial extension were investigated: 1) visual observation of necking; 2) visual observation of non-uniform flow during stress relaxation after cessation of steady elongation; 3) calculation of the Considère criterion from the measured elongational stress-strain curve; 4) numerical calculation of inflection point (‘C2/‘)2=0) from the tensile stress-strain curve. In addition, under higher Deborah number conditions the critical Hencky strains at Considère criterion were calculated using PSM model parameters (! and #) and were compared with those obtained from the measured elongational stress-strain curve. The relationship between these failure modes is discussed in terms of rheological properties of the polymer, putting emphasis on the relationship with the thermoforming process. The Considère criterion appears to be the most effective indicator of the non-uniform deformation of ABS melt in uniaxial extension under conditions where cohesive fracture does not occur. The rheological properties such as elongational viscosity, strain hardening and/or strain softening, and their temperature dependence play an important role in determining the growth and transition of melt failure of ABS polymer in uniaxial extension.  相似文献

The dispersion into water of nanocapsules bearing a highly hydrophobic fluorinated internal lining yielded encapsulated air nanobubbles. These bubbles, like their micrometer‐sized counterparts (microbubbles), effectively reflected ultrasound. More importantly, the nanobubbles survived under ultrasonication 100‐times longer than a commercial microbubble sample that is currently in clinical use. We justify this unprecedented stability theoretically. These nanobubbles, owing to their small size and potential ability to permeate the capillary networks of tissues, may expand the applications of microbubbles in diagnostic ultrasonography and find new applications in ultrasound‐regulated drug delivery.  相似文献

In this work, nitric oxide (NO) release coatings designed for intravenous amperometric glucose sensors are optimized through the use of a polylactic acid (PLA) layer doped with a lipophilic diazeniumdiolated species that releases NO through a proton-driven mechanism. An Elast-Eon E2As polyurethane coating is used to both moderate NO release from the sensor surface and increase the sensor''s linear detection range toward glucose. These sensors were evaluated for thromboresistance and in vivo glucose performance through implantation in rabbit veins. By maintaining NO flux on a similar scale to endogenous endothelial cells, implanted glucose sensors exhibited reduced surface clot formation which enables more accurate quantitative glucose measurements continuously. An in vivo time trace of implanted venous sensors demonstrated glucose values that correlated well with the discrete measurements of blood samples on a benchtop point-of-care sensor-based instrument. The raw measured currents from the implanted glucose sensors over 7 h time periods were converted to glucose concentration through use of both a one-point in vivo calibration and a calibration curve obtained in vitro within a bovine serum solution. Control sensors, assembled without NO release functionality, exhibit distinctive surface clotting over the 7 h in vivo implantation period.  相似文献

Many diseases caused by inflammatory processes can progress to a chronic state causing deterioration in the quality of life and a poor prognosis for long-term survival. To address inflammatory diseases effectively, early detection and novel therapeutics are required. However, this can be challenging, in part because of the lack of early predictive biomarkers and the limited availability of adequate technologies capable of the identification/characterization of key predictive biomarkers present in biological materials, especially those found at picomolar concentrations and below. This review highlights the need for state-of-the art methodologies, with high-sensitivity and high-throughput capabilities, for determination of multiple biomarkers. Although many new biomarkers have been discovered recently, existing technology has failed to successfully bring this advancement to the patient's bedside. We present an overview of the various advances available today to extend the discovery of predictive biomarkers of inflammatory diseases; in particular, we review the technology of immunoaffinity capillary electrophoresis (IACE), which combines the use of antibodies as highly selective capture agents with the high resolving power of capillary electrophoresis. This two-dimensional hybrid technology permits the quantification and characterization of several protein biomarkers simultaneously, including subtle structural changes such as variants, isoforms, peptide fragments, and post-translational modifications. Furthermore, the results are rapid, sensitive, can be performed at a relatively low cost, without the introduction of false positive or false negative data. The IACE instrumentation can have relevance to medical, pharmaceutical, environmental, military, cultural heritage (authenticity of art work), forensic science, industrial and research fields, and in particular as a point-of-care biomarker analyzer in translational medicine.  相似文献

The structure of the proton-bound lysine dimer has been investigated by infrared multiple photon dissociation (IRMPD) spectroscopy and electronic structure calculations. The structures of different possible isomers of the proton-bound lysine dimer have been optimized at the B3LYP/6-31 + G(d) level of theory and IR spectra calculated using the same computational method. Based on relative Gibbs free energies (298 K) calculated at the MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ//B3LYP/6-31 + G(d) level of theory, LL-CS01, and followed closely (1.1 kJ mol–1) by LL-CS02 are the most stable non-zwitterionic isomers. At the MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ//6-31 + G(d) and MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ//6-31 + (d,p) levels of theory, isomer LL-CS02 is favored by 3.0 and 2.3 kJ mol–1, respectively. The relative Gibbs free energies calculated by the aforementioned levels of theory for LL-CS01 and LL-CS02 are very close and strongly suggest that diagnostic vibrational signatures found in the IRMPD spectrum of the proton-bound dimer of lysine can be attributed to the existence of both isomers. LL-ZW01 is the most stable zwitterionic isomer, in which the zwitterionic structure of the neutral lysine is well stabilized by the protonated lysine moiety via a very strong intermolecular hydrogen bond. At the MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ//B3LYP/6-31 + G(d), MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ//6-31 + G(d) and MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ//6-31 + G(d,p) levels of theory, the most stable zwitterionic isomer (LL-ZW01) is less favored than LL-CS01 by 7.3, 4.1 and 2.3 kJ mol–1, respectively. The experimental IRMPD spectrum also confirms that the proton-bound dimer of lysine largely exists as charge-solvated isomers. Investigation of zwitterionic and charge-solvated species of amino acids in the gas phase will aid in a further understanding of structure, property, and function of biological molecules.  相似文献
