Compounds having thiourea moiety as derivatization reagents in liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization–tandem mass spectrometry (LC/ESI‐MS/MS): synthesis of derivatization reagents for carboxylic acids

The derivatization reagents for carboxylic acids, N‐(Pyridin‐3‐yl)hydrazinecarbothioamide, N‐[4‐(dimethylamino)phenyl]hydrazinecarbothioamide, 1‐(2‐aminoethyl)‐3‐(pyridin‐3‐yl)thiourea, 1‐(2‐aminoethyl)‐3‐[4‐(dimethylamino)phenyl]thiourea and 4‐(2‐aminoethyl)‐N‐phenylpiperazine‐1‐carbothioamide were synthesized. These reagents reacted with carboxylic acids at 60°C for 45 min in the presence of the condensation reagents. The generated derivatives were favorably separated on the reversed‐phase column and sensitively detected by electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. These reagents enhanced the electrospray ionization response of the analyte and generated a particular product ion efficiently by collision‐induced dissociation, and thus they were suitable for MS/MS detection. Effect of Polysaccharides from Fruit Body of Ganoderma tsugae on Bidirectional Regulation of Proinflammatory Cytokine Production in THP-1 Cells

The polysaccharides,FIII-2,FIII-2-a,FIII-2-b and FIII-2-c were purified from the fruit body of Ganoderma tsugae(G.tsugae) to study the effects of the four polysaccharides on the productions of human proinflammatory cytokines,interleukin-1α(IL-1α) and tumor necrosis factor α(TNFα).The results show that the polysaccharides up-regulated the production of IL-1α and TNFα in THP-1 cells under non-stimulatory condition or under stimulation of both lower concentration lipopolysaccharide(LPS) and phorbol myristate a...     

Application of 28Mg to the kinetic study of Mg uptake by rice plants

The time course of Mg uptake and release using intact rice plants and ²⁸Mg as a tracer is presented. Since there is no conventional Mg tracer available, ²⁸Mg was produced via ²⁷Al(α, 3p)²⁸Mg reaction using a cyclotron. Using the purified ²⁸Mg tracer, it was found that the uptake amount of ²⁸Mg by the rice plants increased linearly during 30 min of application. After ²⁸Mg treatment for 90 min, the roots were sequentially washed with iced solution for 120 min. Within about 10 min, almost all of the ²⁸Mg, that was thought to be weakly bound to the apoplast, was washed away.     

Cu chemistry of YBa2Cu3O6+x investigated by nuclear quadrupole resonance

The nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) technique has been utilized to characterize the local oxygen coordination of inequivalent Cu sites in YBa₂Cu₃O_6+x(0 ≤ x ≤ 0.91). Essentially, four distinct NQR lines which correspond to 2, 3,4 oxygen coordinated Cu sites in the Cu-O chains and 5 oxygen coordinated Cu sites in the Cu-O planes have been observed. The zero-field NQR frequencies of these are centered at about 30.1, 24.0, 22.0 and 31.5 MHz for ⁶³Cu, respectively. For the antiferromagnetic ordered state (x ≤ 0.3), antiferromagnetic nuclear resonance (AFNR) has been observed at 90 MHz with quadrupole splittings associated with the moment-bearing Cu sites in the Cu-O planes. The relative intensities of these resonance lines depend on the oxygen content, and this gives us a microscopic understanding of the Cu chemistry of this system.     

Curdlan as a Polymeric Starting Material to Access C6-Modified Glucose Derivatives

We evaluated the potential of a linear β-1,3-glucan (curdlan) as a starting material to access C6-modified glucose derivatives and found that 6-bromo-6-deoxyglucose, 6-azide-6-deoxyglucose, and 6-acetamido-6-deoxyglucose could be readily prepared from curdlan through its C6-selective and quantitative modifications and subsequent acid-catalyzed hydrolysis.     

Synthesis and properties of bis(pyrazino[2′,3′:4,5]imidazole)-fused 1,2,5,6-tetrahydro-1,4,5,8,9,10-hexaazaanthracenes: a new fluorescent nitrogen-rich heterocycle

Nitrogen-rich heterocycles, bis(pyrazino[2′,3′:4,5]imidazole)-fused 1,2,5,6-tetrahydro-1,4,5,8,9,10-hexaazaanthracenes (BPI-HAAs) were prepared by conventional Pd(OAc)₂/BINAP-catalyzed C-N coupling reactions of 5-aryl-3-bromoaminopyrazines. The BPI-HAA core is a planar structure with aromaticity, and this heterocycle exhibits red fluorescence and moderate electron-accepting characteristics.
