Enantioselective Synthesis of L-CCG-I

Introduction of natural menthol as the chiral auxiliary in a gamma-Br-alpha,beta-unsaturated ester leads to enantioselective generation of three chiral centers in a single step on reaction with a glycine anion equivalent to provide L-CCG-I in 94% ee.     

Evidence for the involvement of silver nanoclusters during the Wolff rearrangement of alpha-diazoketones

In situ-generated silver nanoclusters(Ag(n)) during the reduction of either silver(I) oxide or other salts presumably catalyze the Wolff rearrangement of alpha-diazoketones. Their optical, physical, and catalytic properties depend on the starting silver(I) compound and the reaction conditions. [reaction: see text]     

Polynomial Solution of Non-Central Potentials

We show that the exact energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Schrödinger equation for charged particles moving in certain class of non-central potentials can be easily calculated analytically in a simple and elegant manner by using Nikiforov and Uvarov (NU) method. We discuss the generalized Coulomb and harmonic oscillator systems. We study the Hartmann Coulomb and the ring-shaped and compound Coulomb plus Aharanov–Bohm potentials as special cases. The results are in exact agreement with other methods.     

One-step synthesis of 4-alkyl-3-aryl-2,6-dicyanoanilines and their use in the synthesis of highly functionalized 2,3,5,6,7- and 2,3,4,5,7-substituted indoles

A three-component, one-step method for the synthesis of 4-alkyl-3-aryl-2,6-dicyanoanilines involving reaction of alkyl aldehyde, malononitrile and aryl aldehyde in presence of morpholine is reported. Highly functionalized 2,3,5,6,7- and 2,3,4,5,7-substituted indoles were prepared from these dicyanoanilines by reaction with ethyl bromoacetate. These substituted dicyanoanilines and indoles have a potential to be converted into various other compounds taking advantage of various functional groups present in these molecules.     

First enantiospecific synthesis of (+)-β-herbertenol

The first enantiospecific synthesis of (+)-β-herbertenol, from naturally occurring R-(+)-citronellal, employing Taber's diazo decomposition protocol as the key step, is described.     

Extraction of uranium(VI) by tri iso-amyl phosphate (TiAP) in ionic liquids

Batch extraction of uranium(VI) from uranyl nitrate solutions using TiAP in ionic liquids ([BMIM]PF₆ and [HMIM]PF₆) is studied. Effects of acidity, TiAP concentration in ionic liquid and temperature on distribution coefficient are studied. Results show that distribution coefficient increases with an increase in acidity and reduces with an increase in the alkyl chain length of the cation of the ionic liquid. Extraction of uranium(VI) by TiAP-[HMIM]PF₆ system is found to involve two molecules of the extractant per metal ion and extraction is found to change from being exothermic to endothermic as the percentage of the extractant is increased.

The νp process is a primary nucleosynthesis process which occurs in core-collapse supernovae. An essential role in this process is being played by electron antineutrinos. They generate, by absorption on protons, a supply of neutrons which, by (n, p) reactions, allow to overcome waiting point nuclei with rather long beta-decay and proton-capture lifetimes. The synthesis of heavy elements by the νp process depends sensitively on the $\bar \nu _e$ luminosity and spectrum. As has been shown recently, the latter are affected by collective neutrino flavor oscillations which can swap the $\bar \nu _e$ and $\bar \nu _{\mu ,\tau }$ spectra above a certain split energy. Assuming such a swap scenario, we have studied the impact of collective neutrino flavor oscillations on the νp-process nucleosynthesis. Our results show that the production of light p-nuclei up to mass number A = 108 is very sensitive to collective neutrino oscillations.
