Integrable solutions of a mixed type operator equation

In this paper we prove the existence of integrable solutions for a generalized mixed type operator equation, which contains many key integral and functional equations appearing frequently in Mathematical literature. Our main tool is a Krasnosel’skii type fixed point theorem recently proved by Latrach and Taoudi, the first author. An existence theory for a class of nonlinear transport equations is also developed.     

Evidence of Brillouin scattering in an ytterbium-doped double-clad fiber laser

We have designed and performed an experiment that permitted direct observation of Brillouin backscattering in an Yb-doped double-clad fiber laser. Fifteen Brillouin-shifted frequencies were observed for the first time to our knowledge. We clearly demonstrate that stimulated Brillouin scattering is directly responsible for both fast transient dynamics of the laser and reduction of the laser's pulse width.     

Strategies for increasing the efficiency of a genetic algorithm for the structural optimization of nanoalloy clusters

An improved genetic algorithm (GA) is described that has been developed to increase the efficiency of finding the global minimum energy isomers for nanoalloy clusters. The GA is optimized for the example Pt12Pd12, with specific investigation of: the effect of biasing the initial population by seeding; the effect of removing specified clusters from the population ("predation"); and the effect of varying the type of mutation operator applied. These changes are found to significantly enhance the efficiency of the GA, which is subsequently demonstrated by the application of the best strategy to a new cluster, namely Pt19Pd19.

Thermoreflectance imaging of laser diodes and VCSELs along and perpendicular to the emission direction

Thermal characterization of semiconductor lasers is an important issue for optoelectronics. This paper presents our thermoreflectance measurements on two different types of laser diodes: classical ridge laser diodes and vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs). We first studied the external temperature increase in ridge diodes in order to determine inhomogeneity. Then, we tried to determine the inner temperature of the VCSELs.

Let T be a bounded operator and let \(k \ge 2\) be an integer. We study in this paper the following question: T is a partial isometry implies that \(T^k\) is a partial isometry and conversely.     

Existence of Integrable Solutions of an Integral Equation of Hammerstein Type on an Unbounded Interval

In this paper we investigate the existence of integrable solutions of a nonlinear integral equation of Hammerstein type on an unbounded interval. Our analysis relies on a Krasnosel’skii type fixed point theorem and uses the technique of measure of weak noncompactness.     

Dissipative solitons compounds in a fiber laser. Analogy with the states of the matter

We investigate experimentally ordered and disordered pattern formation of solitons in a double-clad fiber laser. We point out an analogy between the different states of matter and the states of a set of dissipative solitons. In particular, we have identified a gas, a supersonic gas flow, a liquid, a polycrystal and a crystal of solitons. The different states are obtained only by adjustment of the intracavity phase plates.
