An investigation of the optical and magnetic properties of a unique hydrogen‐linked conjugate nanostructure, comprised of superparamagnetic γ‐Fe2O3 nanoparticles (NPs) and near‐infrared PbSe nanocrystal quantum dot (NQD) chromophores, is reported. The results show retention of the NQDs’ emission quantum efficiency and radiative lifetime, and only a small red shift of its band energy, upon conjugation to the dielectric surroundings of γ‐Fe2O3 NPs. The study also shows the sustainability of the superparamagnetism of the NPs after conjugation, with only a slight decrease of the ferromagnetic–superparamagnetic transition temperature with respect to that of the individual NPs. Thus, the conjugate nanostructure can be considered as a useful medical platform when PbSe NQDs act as fluorescent tags, while the γ‐Fe2O3 NPs are used as a vehicle driven by an external magnetic field for targeted delivery of tags or drugs.  相似文献

A convergent synthesis of the tetrasaccharide repeating unit of the O-antigenic cell wall polysaccharide of Escherichia coli 78, as the corresponding methyl glycoside (I), is being reported. It involved stereoselective glycosidation of a β-linked mannodisaccharide acceptor with a β-linked glucosamine based disaccharide thioglycoside donor, which were prepared from the corresponding functionalised monosaccharide based glycosyl donors and acceptors. The resulting tetrasaccharide derivative was finally converted to (I) by selective deprotection and also by global protection and deprotection techniques.  相似文献

By minimizing the coupled mean-field energy functionals, we investigate the ground-state properties of a rotating atomic boson-fermion mixture in a two-dimensional parabolic trap. At high angular frequencies in the mean-field lowest-Landau-level regime, quantized vortices enter the bosonic condensate, and a finite number of degenerate fermions form the maximum-density-droplet state. As the boson-fermion coupling constant increases, the maximum density droplet develops into a lower-density state associated with the phase separation, revealing characteristics of a Landau-level structure.  相似文献

A controversy between the well-known medical teacher Herman Boerhaave and the anatomist Frederik Ruysch on the nature of the glands shows how chemical knowledge had a decisive influence on the way in which Boerhaave perceived the anatomy and working of the glands. While Ruysch maintained that the glands are no more than the extremities of arteries and act as mechanical instruments separating the fluids into smaller particles, Boerhaave examined the glands as membranous follicles in which chemical processes prepare the fluids for their different uses in the body. Boerhaave, in other words, turned to the chemical properties of particles rather than the vessels that contain them. Boerhaave's viewpoint was new and resulted from his belief in chemistry as the discipline par excellence for the explanation of the most basic processes in the body. More than anything else, the controversy shows how chemistry was not contained within fixed disciplinary boundaries, but had a decisive influence on Boerhaave's construction of anatomical knowledge.  相似文献

We have investigated the adsorption of asymmetric poly(styrene-b-methyl methacrylate) block copolymers (PS-PMMA) from a selective solvent onto alumina (Al(2)O(3)) particles having variable and controllable radii. The solvent used was a bad solvent for the PS block (block A) and a good solvent for the PMMA block (block B), which has a higher affinity of the surface. Such a case represents a new class of adsorption, where both blocks compete for the adsorption sites of the metallic surface. Two theoretical models, the modified drops model and the perforated film model, have been evaluated as appropriate representation of such an adsorption scenario. The experimental results indicated that the adsorption of the PS-PMMA block copolymer generated a patterned surface comprised of a homogeneous melt layer of the PS block perforated with holes having a variable PMMA structure, depending on the distance from the bottom of the hole (alumina surface) and the distance from walls of the hole. The density gradient of the PMMA moiety in the hole reverted to the classical brush morphology at a critical distance from the surface of the hole.  相似文献

Recent research demonstrates that many issues related to the structure of natural numbers and the relationship among numbers are not well grasped by students. In this article, we describe a computer-based learning environment called Number Worlds that was designed to support the exploration of elementary number theory concepts by making the essential relationships and patterns more accessible to learners. Based on our research with pre-service elementary school teachers, we show how both the visual representations embedded in the microworld, and the possibilities afforded for experimentation affect learners' understanding and appreciation of basic concepts in elementary number theory. We also discuss the aesthetic and affective dimensions of the research participants' engagement with the learning environment. Fully synthetic jet fuel (FSJF) produced via Fischer-Tropsch (FT) technology was recently approved by the international aviation fuel authorities. To receive approval, comparison of FSJF and crude-derived fuel and blends on their qualitative and quantitative hydrocarbon composition was of utmost importance. This was performed by comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC) in the reversed phase mode. The hydrocarbon composition of synthetic and crude-derived jet fuels is very similar and all compounds detected in the synthetic product are also present in crude-derived fuels. Quantitatively, the synthetic fuel consists of a higher degree of aliphatic branching with less than half the aromatic content of the crude-derived fuel. GC×GC analyses also indicated the presence of trace levels of hetero-atomic impurities in the crude-derived product that were absent in the synthetic product. While clay-treatment removed some of the impurities and improved the fuel stability, the crude-derived product still contained traces of cyclic and aromatic S-containing compounds afterwards. Lower level of aromatics and the absence of sulphur are some of the factors that contribute to the better fuel stability and environmental properties of the synthetic fuel. GC×GC was further applied for the analysis of products during Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidation Testing (JFTOT), which measures deposit formation of a fuel under simulated engine conditions. JFTOT showed the synthetic fuel to be much more stable than the crude-derived fuel.  相似文献

In oligomerisation products of High Temperature Fischer-Tropsch (HTFT) derived light alkenes using a solid phosphoric acid (SPA) catalyst, the presence of cyclics was presumed although their occurrence could not be explained by the generally accepted oligomerisation mechanism. Notwithstanding the use of GC×GC-TOFMS, the cyclic alkanes could not be differentiated from the alkenes. On the one hand, compounds co-eluted in GC×GC and, on the other hand, MS cannot distinguish between these classes because of identical molecular masses and very similar mass fragmentation patterns. An LC pre-fractionation procedure utilising a silver-modified column was developed to separate the saturates from the unsaturates. Using this approach we were able, for the first time, to confirm the presence of cyclics, probably resulting from secondary reactions, in HTFT oligomerisation products. The occurrence of cyclics can be an indication of the beginning of carbonaceous deposit formation that could eventually lead to catalyst deactivation.  相似文献

The essential oils of hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa) leaves have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and relaxation properties that are likely associated with the major components such as sabinene, α-terpinyl acetate, limonene, elemol, myrcene, and hibaene. The present study describes the use of a cellulose-dissolving ionic liquid (IL) [C2mim][(MeO)(H)PO2] and low-toxicity solvents called betaine-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs) for the efficient extraction of hinoki essential oils. As a control method, organic solvent extraction was performed using either hexane, ethyl acetate (EtOAc), or acetone at 30 °C for 1 h. Both the experimental and control methods were conducted under the same conditions, which relied on partial dissolution of the leaves using the IL and DESs before partitioning the hinoki oils into the organic solvent for analysis. Quantitative analysis was performed using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) in selected ion monitoring (SIM) mode. The results indicated that extraction using the [C2mim][(MeO)(H)PO2]/acetone bilayer system improved the yields of limonene and hibaene, 1.5- and 1.9-fold, respectively, when compared with the control method. In addition, extraction using betaine/l-lactic acid (molar ratio 1:1) gave the greatest yields for both limonene and hibaene, 1.3-fold and 1.5-fold greater, respectively, than when using an organic solvent. These results demonstrate the effective extraction of essential oils from plant leaves under conditions milder than those needed for the conventional method. The less toxic and environmentally begin DESs for the extraction are also applicable to the food and cosmetic industries.  相似文献

This study focuses on the nature of preservice elementary school teachers’ understandings of several concepts in elementary number theory that are evoked by a computer-based microworld called Number Worlds. In particular, the focus is on the concepts of factor, multiple and prime number. The notion of ‘thickness’ is examined with respect to understanding mathematical concepts and alludes to various attributes of Number Worlds that may be responsible for provoking different layers and depths of understanding, termed ‘thick understanding’.  相似文献
