In this article we present first proof-of-principle neutron depolarization imaging measurements on Ni foils under mechanical stress. The magnetostrictive effect in Ni leads to a reorientation of the magnetic domains in the material depending on the applied force. This in turn leads to a change of the depolarization a neutron beam suffers from transmission of the sample. We propose to use this method as a new technique for the spatially resolved measurement of mechanical stress. 相似文献

The influence of fundamental and second harmonic wavelength on ablation efficiency and nanoparticle properties is studied
during picosecond laser ablation of silver, zinc, and magnesium in polymer-doped tetrahydrofuran. Laser ablation in stationary
liquid involves simultaneously the fabrication of nanoparticles by ablation of the target material and fragmentation of dispersed
nanoparticles by post irradiation. The ratio in which the laser pulse energy contributes to these processes depends on laser
wavelength and colloidal properties. For plasmon absorbers (silver), using the second harmonic wavelength leads to a decrease
of the nanoparticle productivity over process time along with exponential decrease in particle diameter, while using the fundamental
wavelength results in a constant ablation rate and linear decrease in particle diameter. For colloids made of materials without

We consider cost sharing for a class of facility location games, where the strategy space of each player consists of the bases of a player-specific matroid defined on the set of resources. We assume that resources have nondecreasing load-dependent costs and player-specific delays. Our model includes the important special case of capacitated facility location problems, where players have to jointly pay for opened facilities. The goal is to design cost sharing protocols so as to minimize the resulting price of anarchy and price of stability. We investigate two classes of protocols: basic protocols guarantee the existence of at least one pure Nash equilibrium and separable protocols additionally require that the resulting cost shares only depend on the set of players on a resource. We find optimal basic and separable protocols that guarantee the price of stability/price of anarchy to grow logarithmically/linearly in the number of players. These results extend our previous results (cf. von Falkenhausen & Harks, 2013), where optimal basic and separable protocols were given for the case of symmetric matroid games without delays. 相似文献

Anisotropic decompositions using representation systems based on parabolic scaling such as curvelets or shearlets have recently attracted significant attention due to the fact that they were shown to provide optimally sparse approximations of functions exhibiting singularities on lower dimensional embedded manifolds. The literature now contains various direct proofs of this fact and of related sparse approximation results. However, it seems quite cumbersome to prove such a canon of results for each system separately, while many of the systems exhibit certain similarities. In this paper, with the introduction of the notion of parabolic molecules, we aim to provide a comprehensive framework which includes customarily employed representation systems based on parabolic scaling such as curvelets and shearlets. It is shown that pairs of parabolic molecules have the fundamental property to be almost orthogonal in a particular sense. This result is then applied to analyze parabolic molecules with respect to their ability to sparsely approximate data governed by anisotropic features. For this, the concept of sparsity equivalence is introduced which is shown to allow the identification of a large class of parabolic molecules providing the same sparse approximation results as curvelets and shearlets. Finally, as another application, smoothness spaces associated with parabolic molecules are introduced providing a general theoretical approach which even leads to novel results for, for instance, compactly supported shearlets. 相似文献

The computation of the semiclassical Schrödinger equation presents major challenges because of the presence of a small parameter. Assuming periodic boundary conditions, the standard approach consists of semi-discretisation with a spectral method, followed by an exponential splitting. In this paper we sketch an alternative strategy. Our analysis commences with the investigation of the free Lie algebra generated by differentiation and by multiplication with the interaction potential: it turns out that this algebra possesses a structure which renders it amenable to a very effective form of asymptotic splitting: exponential splitting where consecutive terms are scaled by increasing powers of the small parameter. This leads to methods which attain high spatial and temporal accuracy and whose cost scales as \({\mathcal {O}}\!\left( M\log M\right) \) , where \(M\) is the number of degrees of freedom in the discretisation. 相似文献

Taking into account softening effects in connection with conventional inelastic material models can cause ill-posed boundary value problems. These problems can be established by obtaining no unique solution for the resulting algebraic system or by having a strong mesh dependence of the numerical results. This is the consequence of losing ellipticity of the governing field equations. A possible approach to solve these problems is to introduce a non-local field function in the model which includes an internal material length scale. For this purpose a gradient-enhanced free energy function is used for the current continuum damage model from which two variational equations are resulting. Calculations with less effort can be achieved due to the enhancement of the free energy function in comparison to other approaches. The mentioned model is applied to a material with locally varying damage properties (yield limits). Furthermore, the model is able to describe crack propagation in cases of completely damaged material. Therewith, a matrix material including precipitates, such as carbides, is modeled. This allows to investigate ship screws, which usually exhibit the mentioned composition, with regard to the influence of cavitation.
