Surface plasmon in a parallel magnetic field

Using a hydrodynamic model the dispersion relation for the surface plasmon is calculated in an external magnetic field parallel to the surface when the wave propagates perpendicular to the magnetic field. In the limit of zero wave vector, the results reduce to those of Chiu and Quinn who have used the dielectric constant in the local theory.     

Lattice vibrations induced by a polarizable impurity atom in polar crystals

The effect of a polarizable impurity atom on the frequency of optical vibrations of a polar crystal is calculated. The impurity-lattice interaction is treated by considering lattice polarization as discrete in contrast to earlier methods based on continuum approximation. In the appropriate limit, our result goes over exactly to the result of earlier approximation.     

Field theoretic description of the Abelian and non-Abelian Josephson effect

We formulate the Josephson effect in a field theoretic language which affords a straightforward generalization to the non-Abelian case. Our formalism interprets Josephson tunneling as the excitation of pseudo Goldstone bosons. We demonstrate the formalism through the consideration of a single junction separating two regions with a purely non-Abelian order parameter and a sandwich of three regions where the central region is in a distinct phase. Applications to various non-Abelian symmetry breaking systems in particle and condensed matter physics are given.
