The magnetic moments of (vg 9/2)-levels in odd Zn isotopes

^69m,71mZn have been implanted with an isotope separator on-line into a cold iron host matrix. Nuclear magnetic resonance of the low-temperature oriented isotopes has been observed. The resonance frequencies for zero external magnetic field are v_L(^69mZnFe@#@) =36.814(35) MHz andv _L (^71mZnFe)=33.47(19) MHz. From these the magnetic moments of the 9/2⁺ iosmeric states have been derived as μ(^69mZn)=(?)1.138(18) n.m. andμ(^71mZn)=(?)1.035(18) n.m. The experimentally known magnetic moments of (vg _9/2)-levels in odd zinc isotopes are compared to theoretical estimates.     

The adsorption of a substituted benzene,the ethynyl-trifluoro-toluene on Si(100)-2 × 1

The adsorption of 3-ethynyl-trifluoro-toluene (ETFT) on Si(100)-2 × 1 surface in ultra high vacuum is studied in the low coverage regime, through a joint experimental and theoretical approach. The STM images of both filled and empty states revealed few distinct adsorption configurations. On the basis of Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations the STM images were simulated and three main adsorption configurations were identified, with a predominance of di-sigma bonded species that leave the benzene ring unreacted. A discussion of the reactivity of the reconstructed silicon surface towards benzene derivatives is proposed by comparing the adsorption of ETFT close related molecules, like styrene and phenylacetylene.     

Optimal Control of Large Deformation Elasticity by Fiber Tension

Object of our interest is an elastic body Ω ⊂ ℝ³ which we can deform by applying a tension along certain given short fibers inside the body. The deformation of the body is desribed by a hyperelastic model with polyconvex energy density and a special energy functional for the tension along the fibers. We seek to apply (possibly large) deformations to the body so that a desired shape is obtained. To this end, we formulate an optimal control problem for the fiber tension field. Primal-dual methods for the computation of trading regions under proportional transaction costs

Portfolio optimization problems on a finite time horizon under proportional transaction costs are considered. The objective is to maximize the expected utility of the terminal wealth. The ensuing non-smooth time-dependent Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation is solved by regularization and the application of a semi-smooth Newton method. Discretization in space is carried out by finite differences or finite elements. Computational results for one and two risky assets are provided.     

Quantification of carbohydrate structures in size fractionated aquatic humic substances by two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance

Two-dimensional phase sensitive C,H correlation spectra were successfully applied to the quantification of carbohydrate substructures in aquatic humic substance (HS) fractions obtained by tangential flow multistage ultrafiltration (TFMSTUF) of a selected bog water HS (HO13, German Research Program DFG-ROSIG) as well as a river HS (Suwannee River Fulvic Acid Reference of the International Humic Substances Society, IHSS). It turns out that after size fractionation the HS samples give very well resolved C,H-correlation spectra which offer a great potential for substructure quantification. Details of the combined substructure quantification technique, novel in HS characterization, are presented. The results of the combined procedure point out that carbohydrate moieties predominantly occur in higher molecular mass fractions (> 10 kDa) of isolated HS.     

29Si NMR investigations on oligosilane dendrimers

Starting with the high functionalized trisilane SiClMe(SiCl₂Me)₂ and tetrasilane SiMe(SiCl₂Me)₃ several octa- and decasilane dendrimers containing directly neighboured branchings were prepared. In these compounds the ²⁹Si NMR chemical shifts of the different silyl groups are shifted towards lower field compared with those of analogous groups in tetra- or hexasilanes. This observation is a helpful tool for the characterization of further dendritic oligomers by ²⁹Si NMR. Received: 3 June 1996 / Revised: 3 July 1996 / Accepted: 9 July 1996     

Finite filtrations of modules and shellable multicomplexes

We introduce pretty clean modules, extending the notion of clean modules by Dress, and show that pretty clean modules are sequentially Cohen–Macaulay. We also extend a theorem of Dress on shellable simplicial complexes to multicomplexes.
