Nonuniform thickness and weighted distance

Nonuniform tubular neighborhoods of curves in Rn are studied by using weighted distance functions and generalizing the normal exponential map. Different notions of injectivity radii are introduced to investigate singular but injective exponential maps. A generalization of the thickness formula is obtained for nonuniform thickness. All singularities within almost injectivity radius are classified by the Horizontal Collapsing Property. Examples are provided to show the distinction between the different types of injectivity radii, as well as showing that the standard differentiable injectivity radius fails to be upper semicontinuous on a singular set of weight functions.

A New Piperidine Derivatized-Schiff Base Based “Turn-on” Cu<Superscript>2+</Superscript>Chemo-Sensor

In this study, we report the synthesis of new Schiff base E-1-(((1-benzylpiperidin-4-yl)imino)methyl)naphthalenee-2-ol (L) and evaluation of its fluorescence response toward Cu²⁺ ion. Preliminary, solvent effect, metal selectivity and metal ligand ratio were analyzed through UV-Visible study. Fluorescence response toward Cu²⁺ was carried to assess the fluorescent property of synthesized Schiff base. The probe exhibited a higher fluorescence enhancement in the presence of Cu²⁺ over other metal ions (Ni²⁺, Zn²⁺, Hg²⁺, Co²⁺, Cd²⁺, Al³⁺, Fe²⁺, and Pb²⁺). The binding stoichiometry between L and Cu²⁺ has been investigated using Job’s plot and Benesi-Hildebrand equation and it was found that ligand L can form 1:1 L-Cu²⁺ complex with binding constant (K _a) of 4?×?10⁴ LM^?1.     

Diffusive motion in a model for particle hopping

The diffusive motion of adsorbates on crystal planes is studied by means of a lattice gas model with stochastic dynamics, in the disordered phase and at half coverage. The diffusion coefficient and the time-correlation functions measured in field-emission experiments are calculated. These correlation functions are shown to have the proper hydrodynamic power law decay at long times. It is pointed out that if experiments are done at times before the onset of the hydrodynamic regime the value of the diffusion coefficient obtained will be too small. Our results show also that correlations among the adsorbed particles persist for times longer than predicted by a hydrodynamical approximation.
