Reactions with Hydrazidoyl Halides XII Synthesis of Pyrazolo[5,1-c]-1,2,4-triazine,Selenadiazolo[3,2-a]quinazolones,Selenadiazoline, Thiadiazoline and Thiazole Derivatives

Several new pyrazolo[5,I-c]triazine, selenadiazoline, thiadiazoline, selenadiazolo[3,2-a]quitiazolone, and arylazothiazole derivatives were synthesised by the reaction of hydrazonoyl halides with different reagents. The structure of new heterocycles were assigned on the basis of their elemental analysis, spectral data, and alternate synthesis whenever possible.     

Ferrocene-mediated carbon paste electrode modified with d-fructose dehydrogenase for batch mode measurement of d-fructose

A mediated modified carbon paste and renewable surface electrode for fructose amperometric measurement based on d-fructose dehydrogenase (FDH) was prepared and optimized. Commercially available ferrocene (FcH) and hydroxymethyl ferrocene (FcCH₂OH) were used as mediators. The substituted FcH showed better linearity and higher sensitivity. The influence of different experimental parameters was studied for optimum analytical performance. The final FDH-modified electrode showed good analytical performance for batch mode measurements of fructose.     

Synthesis and antiinflammatory activity of some pyrimidines and thienopyrimidines using 1-(2-Benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-5-yl)vinyl)-4-mercapto-6-methylpyrimidine-5-yl)ethan-2-one as a starting material

In continuation to our search for new heterocyclic systems based antiinflammatories, the suggestion and synthesis of some pyrimidines, thienopyrimidines, and their derivatives, were herein realized. The pharmacological screening showed that many of these compounds have good antiinflammatory activity. The structure assignments of the new compounds are based on chemical and spectroscopic evidence. The detailed synthesis, spectroscopic data, and pharmacological properties are reported. Models and methods for capacitated lot-sizing problems

This is a summary of the author’s PhD thesis supervised by Philippe Chrétienne and Safia Kedad-Sidhoum and defended in December 2005 at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI). The thesis is written in French and is available from . This work mainly deals with multi-item capacitated lot-sizing problems with setup times, shortages on demand and safety stock deficit costs. We propose a new mathematical model that includes these new constraints. Three solution approaches are considered: branch-and-cut, Lagrangean relaxation and MIP-based heuristics approaches. Experimental results showing the effectiveness and the limit of each approach are presented. This work was financed by the ANRT and DynaSys S.A.     

A rapid-scanning autocorrelation scheme for continuous monitoring of picosecond laser pulses

We describe a scheme for rapidly introducing a periodic linear time delay to a train of picosecond laser pulses. By incorporating this scheme in one arm of the Michelson interferometer of a conventional autocorrelator, the second order intensity autocorrelation function of a cw train of picosecond pulses is continuously displayed on an oscilloscope.     

Changes in the rheological and colloidal properties of paper coating liquids with paper-yellowing inhibition additives

This is an investigation of the effect of paper-yellowing inhibitors on the rheological, colloidal, and interfacial properties of paper-coating liquids and the associated changes in the liquid surface microstructure. In addition to rheological measurements, we measured the zeta potential and imaged the surface microstructure of coating liquids by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) using an advanced Pt/C replica technique. The zeta potential is related to the concentration of added inhibitors. The images reveal interparticle structuring with increasing concentration of inhibitors. The structuring is related to the interaction between the coating liquids and the inhibitors. It was also found that the viscosity and the elastic modulus increased with inhibitor concentration. The significant changes in mixture properties due to the additives show the importance of the rheological and surface characterization of liquids and the ensuing effect on the corresponding engineering process.     

Numerical approximation for a non-linear membrane problem

We present a numerical study of large deformations of non-linearly elastic membranes. We consider the non-linear membrane model obtained by Le Dret and Raoult using Γ-convergence, in the case of a Saint Venant-Kirchhoff bulk material. We consider conforming P₁ and Q₁ finite element approximations of the membrane problem and use a non-linear conjugate gradient algorithm to minimize the discrete energy. We present numerical tests including membranes subjected to live pressure loads.     

OPLS in batch monitoring – Opens up new opportunities

In batch statistical process control (BSPC), data from a number of “good” batches are used to model the evolution (trajectory) of the process and they also define model control limits, against which new batches may be compared. The benchmark methods used in BSPC include partial least squares (PLS) and principal component analysis (PCA).
