Quantum Interference, Quantum Theory of Measurement, and (In)completeness of Quantum Mechanics

The new techniques and ideas in quantum interferometry with neutrons, photons, atoms, electrons, and Bose condensates that fluorished in the last two decades have influenced in a decisive way the thinking and the research in the foundations and interpretation of quantum mechanics. The controversies existing among different schools on the reality of matter waves of quantum theory, the postulates of quantum measurement theory, and the (in)completeness of quantum mechanics have to be approached now in a new way. Our argumentation follows the spirit of the Paris school.     

Lattice valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets

In this paper a new definition of a lattice valued intuitionistic fuzzy set (LIFS) is introduced, in an attempt to overcome the disadvantages of earlier definitions. Some properties of this kind of fuzzy sets and their basic operations are given. The theorem of synthesis is proved: For every two families of subsets of a set satisfying certain conditions, there is an lattice valued intuitionistic fuzzy set for which these are families of level sets. Lanthanum nitrate decomposition by both temperature programmed heating and citrate gel combustion

Thermal decomposition of lanthanum nitrate to lanthanum oxide was carried out by both temperature programmed heating (TPH) and citrate-gel combustion. The temperature programmed heating was carried out under flow of oxidizing (air), neutral (nitrogen) and reducing (25 vol.% hydrogen+argone mixture) gases, and the processes were controlled by simultaneous thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis. It was shown that hydrogen atmosphere helps to reduce temperatures of all decomposition steps. The results of TPH were utilized to check the nature of residues in the products of lanthanum nitrate-to-oxide conversion performed via citrate-gel combustion technique.     

Kinetics and mechanism of the formation of poly[(1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxanyl)ethylene] and poly(methyldecylsiloxane) by hydrosilylation

The kinetics of the formation of poly(carbosiloxane), as well as of alkyl-substituted poly(siloxane), by Karstedt's catalyst catalyzed hydrosilylation were investigated. Linear poly(carbosiloxane), poly[(1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxanyl)ethylene], (PTMDSE), was obtained by hydrosilylation of 1,3-divinyltetramethyldisiloxane (DVTMDS) and 1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane (TMDS), while alkyl-substituted poly(siloxane), poly(methyldecylsiloxane), (PMDS), was synthesized by hydrosilylation of poly(methylhydrosiloxane) (PMHS) and 1-decene. To investigate the kinetics of PTMDSE formation, two series of experiments were performed at reaction temperatures ranging from 25 to 56 °C and with catalyst concentrations ranging from 7.0 × 10⁻⁶ to 3.1 × 10⁻⁵ mol Pt/mol CHCH₂. A series of experiments was performed at reaction temperatures ranging from 28 to 48 °C, with catalyst concentrations of 7.0 ×10⁻⁶ mol of Pt per mol of CHCH₂, when kinetics of PMDS formation was investigated. All reactions were carried out in bulk, with equimolar amounts of the reacting Si H and CHCH₂ groups. The course of the reactions was monitored by following the disappearance of the Si H bands using quantitative infrared spectroscopy. The results obtained showed typical first order kinetics for the PTMDSE formation, consistent with the proposed reaction mechanism. In the case of PMDS an induction period occurred at lower reaction temperatures, but disappeared at 44 °C and the rate of Si H conversion also started to follow the first-order kinetics. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Precipitation and characterization of uniform submicrometer lead titanate particles. Part II: Reaction mechanism

The chemical mechanism of the precipitation of lead titanium peroxohydroxide particles in a solution of nitrilotriacetate (NTA) complexes of lead and titanium peroxo-hydroxide is envisioned as the interaction between cations of lead hydroxide and anions of polymeric titanium peroxo-hydroxide.     

Electrocatalytic activity of sol-gel-prepared RuO2/Ti anode in chlorine and oxygen evolution reactions

Electrocatalytic properties of RuO₂/Ti anode with different coating masses, which are prepared by the alkoxide sol-gel procedure, are investigated in chlorine and oxygen evolution reactions by polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in H₂SO₄ and NaCl electrolytes. According to polarization measurements, the activity of anodes at overpotentials below 100 mV is independent of coating mass. However, impedance measurements above 100 mV reveal changes in the activity of anodes in chlorine evolution reaction for different coating masses. The diffusion limitations related to the evolved chlorine are registered in low-frequency domain at 1.10 V (SCE), diminishing with the increase in potential to the 1.15 V (SCE). The observed impedance behavior is discussed with respect to the activity model for activated titanium anodes in chlorine evolution reaction involving formation of gas channels within porous coating structure. Gas channels enhance the mass transfer rate similarly to the forced convection, which also increases the activity of anode. This is more pronounced for the anode of greater coating mass due to its more compact surface structure. The more compact structure appears to be beneficial for gas channels formation. Renormalisation group calculation of the interfacial tension for the three-dimensional Ising model

The interfacial tension of a three-dimensional Ising model in the whole temperature region is calculated by the real-space renormalisation group methods. The cumulant and the finite-cluster approximations with different projection rules are used. The results are consistent with expected low-temperature and global behaviour of the interfacial tension in the three-dimensional model.     

IR finite one-loop box scalar integral with massless internal lines

The IR finite one-loop box scalar integral with massless internal lines has been recalculated. The result is very compact, simple and valid for arbitrary values of the relevant kinematic variables. It is given in terms of only two dilogarithms and a few logarithms, all of very simple arguments. Received: 31 January 2002 / Published online: 26 April 2002     

Two Hadamard matrices of order 956 of Goethals-Seidel type

No Hadamard matrices of order 956 appear in the literature. In this note we construct two such matrices. They are both of Goethals-Seidel type. As a consequence of this and of a result of Seberry and Yamada, we conclude that there exist 4-Williamson type matrices of order 1913.This work was supported by NSERC of Canada Grants A-5285 and EQP0107539.
