By means of the Cristiansen filter method we measured on filters containing powder, filings or wires of silver or powder of indium oxide the coherent scattering lengths for the bound atoms of the following isotopes:b(107Ag)=7.64±0.04 fm,b(109Ag)=4.19±0.03 fmb(nat.Ag)=5.97±0.01 fm,b(113In)=5.39±0.06 fmb(115In)=4.00±0.03 fm andb(nat.In)=4.065±0.020 fm. From these values and taking account of incoherent and resonance data we deduced values for the fundamental spin state scattering lengths and incoherent cross sections. These zero energy scattering parameters and the resonance parameters for silver are consistent if bound levels of108Ag and110Ag are assumed. No indications were found for bound levels of the In isotopes.  相似文献

Coherent neutron scattering lengths and total cross sections have been measured on samples of ordinary Sb, Te, I and on isotopically enriched compounds. From the experimental data for neutron energies of 0.57 meV, 1.26 eV and 5.2 eV the following data were obtained: the coherent scattering lengths (in fm) of the bound atoms Sb (5.57±0.03);121Sb(5.71±0.06),123Sb(5.38±0.07); Te(5.80±0.03) and for its isotopes of the mass number 122(3.8±0.2); 123(?0.05±0.25?i·0.100); 124(7.95±0.10); 125(5.01±0.08); 126(5.55±0.07); 128 (5.88±0.07); 130(6.01±0.07). the thermal absorption cross sections (in barn) for Sb(4.91±0.05);121Sb(5.77±0.12);123Sb(3.8±0.2); Te(4.05±0.05) and I(6.15±0.06). The combination of the measured values of scattering lengths and -cross sections resulted in data for coherent and incoherent cross sections. Taking account of resonance data a complete set of spin state- and reconance scattering lengths has been obtained and discussed.  相似文献

A novel scintillating-fiber sensor for detecting high-energy beta particles has been designed and built at the Pacific Northwest Laboratory to characterize238U and90Sr in surface soils. High-energy betas generate unique signals as they pass through multiple layers of scintillating fibers that make up the active region of the detector. Lower-energy beta particles, gamma rays, and cosmic-ray-generated particles comprise the majority of the background interferences. The resulting signals produced by these latter phenomena are effectively discriminated against due to the combination of the sensor's multi-layer configuration and its interlayer coincidence/anti-coincidence circuitry.  相似文献

The heterogeneous reaction of O3 with lauric acid/oleic acid (LA/OA) mixtures and myristic acid/oleic acid (MA/OA) mixtures were studied as a function of composition, physical state, and microstructure at 298 K. Lauric acid and myristic acid are both alkanoic acids, whereas oleic acid is an alkenoic acid. Additionally, we investigated the uptake of O3 by multicomponent mixtures that closely represent the composition of meat-cooking aerosols. These measurements were performed with a rotating-wall flow-tube reactor coupled to a chemical ionization mass spectrometer. The reactive uptake coefficients (gamma) of O3 on liquid LA/OA and MA/OA solutions range from 4 x 10(-4) to 7.2 x 10(-4). The gamma values measured for solid-liquid LA/OA and MA/OA mixtures (which consist of solid LA or solid MA in equilibrium with a liquid) range from 2 x 10(-5) to 1.7 x 10(-4). These experiments show that only 7% solid by mass in the solid-liquid mixture can decrease gamma by an order of magnitude compared to the liquid mixtures. The gamma values for solid-liquid mixtures that closely represent the composition of meat-cooking aerosols range from 1.6 x 10(-5) to 6.9 x 10(-5). We found that gamma of solid-liquid mixtures depends on the microstructure of the mixtures, which in turn depends on the method of preparing the films. Furthermore, experiments employing solid-liquid mixtures show an increase in gamma with increasing film age. This can be explained either by the formation of a nonequilibrium phase followed by its relaxation to the stable phase or by Ostwald's ripening, which refers to a change in the solid microstructure due to a tendency to minimize the total surface free energy of the solid. We used the obtained gamma values to estimate OA lifetimes for polluted atmospheric conditions. For liquid solutions, the lifetimes were on the order of a few minutes. The lifetimes derived for solid-liquid mixtures are up to 75 min, significantly longer than for liquid solutions. Our study emphasizes the effect of the physical state and microstructure of multicomponent mixtures on the heterogeneous chemistry.  相似文献

Summary An online monitor has been designed, built, and tested that is capable of measuring the residual transuranic concentrations in processed high-level wastes with a detection limit of 370 Bq/ml (10 nCi/ml) in less than six hours. The monitor measures the (α,n) neutrons in the presence of gamma-ray fields up to 1 Sv/h (100 R/h). The optimum design was determined by Monte Carlo modeling and then tempered with practical engineering and cost considerations. A multiplicity counter is used in data acquisition to reject the large fraction of coincident and highly variable cosmic-ray-engendered background events and results in an S/N ratio ~1.  相似文献
