We present the design, fabrication, and operation of a polarization converter based on angled waveguides in the InP/InGaAsP material system. By combining design elements from mode evolution and birefringent devices, the total device length is kept short (less than 50 microm) and the insertion efficiency high at 81%+/-19%, which corresponds to an insertion loss of 1 dB. Devices operate broadband, i.e., the polarization conversion exceeds 15 dB over a 100 nm wavelength range. A polarization rotator with these specifications is a prime candidate for use in an integrated polarization diversity scheme. 相似文献

A novel gas-phase electrophilic cyclization, initiated by the protonation of a nitro group, occurs for 2-nitrophenyl phenyl ether and for the analogous sulfide and amine, leading to heterocyclic intermediates in each case. Subsequently, the cyclic intermediates dissociate via two pathways: (1) unusual step-wise eliminations of two OH radicals to afford heterocyclic cations, [phenoxazine - H](+), [phenothiazine - H](+), and [phenazine + H](+), and (2) expulsion of H(2)O, to yield a heterocyclic ketone, followed by loss of CO. The proposed structures of the gas-phase product ions and reaction mechanisms are supported by chemical substitution, deuterium labeling, accurate mass measurements at high mass resolving power, product-ion mass spectra obtained by tandem mass spectrometry, mass spectra of reference compounds, and molecular orbital calculations. Using a mass spectrometer as a reaction vessel, we demonstrate that, upon protonation, a nitro group becomes an electrophile and participates in cyclization reactions in the gas phase. 相似文献
Selenite is an inorganic form of selenium that has a cytotoxic effect against several human cancer cell lines: one or more selenite metabolites are considered to be responsible for its toxicity. X-ray absorption spectroscopy was used to monitor Se speciation in A549 human lung cancer cells incubated with selenite over 72 h. As anticipated, selenodiglutathione and elemental Se both comprised a large proportion of Se in the cells between 4 and 72 h after treatment, which is in accordance with the reductive metabolism of selenite in the presence of glutathione and glutathione reductase/NADPH system. Selenocystine was also present in the cells but was only detected as a significant component between 24 and 48 h concomitant with a decrease in the proportion of selenocysteine and the viability of the cells. The change in speciation from the selenol, selenocysteine, to the diselenide, selenocystine, is indicative of a change in the redox status of the cells to a more oxidizing environment, likely brought about by metabolites of selenite. X-ray fluorescence microscopy of single cells treated with selenite for 24 h revealed a punctate distribution of Se in the cytoplasm. The accumulation of Se was associated with a greater than 2-fold increase in Cu, which was colocalized with Se. Selenium K-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy revealed Se-Se and Se-S bonding, but not Se-Cu bonding, despite the spatial association of Se and Cu. Microprobe X-ray absorption near-edge structure spectroscopy (μ-XANES) showed that the highly localized Se species was mostly elemental Se. 相似文献

Moreover, based upon how well-localized a function F ∈ (I − P)L2 is in space and in frequency, we can describe which terms in the summation are so small that they can be neglected. If n = 2 and M is the torus or the sphere, and f (s) = se−s (the “Mexican hat” situation), we obtain two explicit approximate formulas for the φj,k, one to be used when t is large, and one to be used when t is small.

A unique, albeit fairly specialized, example of what promises to be a useful retrosynthetic consideration for those designing complex π‐molecular systems, namely, using conformation as a protecting group to shield a given reactive site in lieu of protecting‐group manipulation, is described (see scheme).
