Double porosity is a substantial microstructure characteristic in a wide range of geomaterials. It is a natural phenomenon that can be found in many types of soil, and it can result from biological, chemical or mechanical damage. In this paper, the influence of macro-pores on dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) migration in double-porosity medium was investigated using light transmission visualization technique. Three experiments were carried out in two-dimensional flow chambers filled with a double-porosity medium composed of a mixture of local sand and sintered kaolin clay spheres arranged in a periodic manner. In each experiment, a different volumetric fraction of macro-pores and micropores was used. Tetrachloroethylene (PCE) was used to simulate DNAPL, and it was dyed using Oil-Red-O for better visualization. A predetermined amount of PCE was injected into the flow chambers and this amount was re-calculated using image analysis. A very strong correlation was found between the PCE amount injected and the amount calculated from image analysis in each experiment. The experiment was repeated by filling the flow chamber with silica sand to represent single-porosity medium. The results show that the macro-pores have a considerable effect on the PCE migration in double-porosity soil as the PCE movement was the fastest in the third experiment which contained the largest macro-pores volume. The accuracy of the method was validated using statistical analysis. The results show a slight difference between the means of the three experiments, indicating that the method is viable for monitoring NAPL migration in double-porosity medium under different volumetric fractions of macro-pores and micropores.  相似文献

Accurate quantification of polymer distributions is one of the main challenges in polymer analysis by liquid chromatography. The response of contemporary detectors is typically influenced by compositional features such as molecular weight, chain composition, end groups, and branching. This renders the accurate quantification of complex polymers of which there are no standards available, extremely challenging. Moreover, any (programmed) change in mobile‐phase composition may further limit the applicability of detection techniques. Current methods often rely on refractive index detection, which is not accurate when dealing with complex samples as the refractive‐index increment is often unknown. We review current and emerging detection methods in liquid chromatography with the aim of identifying detectors, which can be applied to the quantitative analysis of complex polymers.  相似文献

Novel difluoromethylenated [70]fullerene derivatives, C70(CF2)n (n=1–3), were obtained by the reaction of C70 with sodium difluorochloroacetate. Two major products, isomeric C70(CF2) mono‐adducts with [6,6]‐open and [6,6]‐closed configurations, were isolated and their homofullerene and methanofullerene structures were reliably determined by a variety of methods that included X‐ray analysis and high‐level spectroscopic techniques. The [6,6]‐open isomer of C70(CF2) constitutes the first homofullerene example of a non‐hetero [70]fullerene derivative in which functionalisation involves the most reactive bond in the polar region of the cage. Voltammetric estimation of the electron affinity of the C70(CF2) isomers showed that it is substantially higher for the [6,6]‐open isomer (the 70‐electron π‐conjugated system is retained) than the [6,6]‐closed form, the latter being similar to the electron affinity of pristine C70. In situ ESR spectroelectrochemical investigation of the C70(CF2) radical anions and DFT calculations of the hyperfine coupling constants provide evidence for the first example of an inter‐conversion between the [6,6]‐closed and [6,6]‐open forms of a cage‐modified fullerene driven by an electrochemical one‐electron transfer. Thus, [6,6]‐closed C70(CF2) constitutes an interesting example of a redox‐switchable fullerene derivative.  相似文献

Hyperbranched poly(ester)s offer attractive features for applications in a number of areas, particularly as platforms for the support of controlled release actives in the agricultural and biomedical fields. Such materials have been generated from trimethylolpropane and adipic acid, and fully characterized using chromatographic, spectroscopic, and thermal methods. The thermal stability of these polymers has been assessed using thermogravimetry and infrared spectroscopy. The degradation characteristics of these materials have been compared to those of two linear adipic acid polymers. The prominent feature of the thermal degradation of the hyperbranched poly(ester)s is ether formation while that for the comparable linear poly(ester)s is ester pyrolysis resulting in chain scission.  相似文献

Proofs are given of two theorems of Berezin and Karpelevič, which as far as we know never have been proved correctly. By using eigenfunctions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator it is shown that the spherical functions on a complex Grassmann manifold are given by a determinant of certain hypergeometric functions. By application of this result, it is proved that a certain system of operators, fow which explicit expressions are given, generates the algebra of radial parts of invariant differential operators.  相似文献

The Sasaki adjunction, which formally encodes the logicality that different authors tried to attach to the Sasaki hook as a ‘quantum implicative connective,’ has a fundamental dynamic nature and encodes the so-called ‘causal duality’ (Coecke et al., 2001) for the particular case of a quantum measurement with a projector as corresponding self-adjoint operator. The action of the Sasaki hook ( $a\xrightarrow{S} - $ ) for fixed antecedent a assigns to some property “the weakest cause before the measurement of actuality of that property after the measurement,” i.e., ( $a\xrightarrow{S}b$ ) is the weakest property that guarantees actuality of b after performing the measurement represented by the projector that has the ‘subspace a’ as eigenstates for eigenvalue 1, say, the measurement that ‘tests’ a. The logicality attributable to quantum systems contains a fundamentally dynamic ingredient: Causal duality actually provides a new dynamic interpretation of orthomodularity. We also reconsider the status of the Sasaki hook within ‘dynamic (operational) quantum logic,’ what leads us to the claim made in the title of this paper. The Sasaki adjunction has a physical significance in terms of causal duality. The labeled dynamic hooks (forwardly and backwardly) that encode quantum measurements, act on properties as $(a_1 \xrightarrow{{\varphi _a }}a_2 ): = (a_1 \to _L (a\xrightarrow{S}a_2 ))$ and $(a_1 \xleftarrow{{\varphi _a }}a_2 ): = ((a\xrightarrow{S}a_2 ) \to _L a_1 )$ , taking values in the ‘disjunctive extension’ $DI(L)$ of the property lattice L, where $a \in L$ is the tested property and $( - \to _L - )$ is the Heyting implication that lives on DI(L). Since these hooks $( - \xrightarrow{{\varphi _a }} - )$ and $( - \xleftarrow{{\varphi _a }} - )$ extend to DI(L)×DI(L) they constitute internal operations. The transition from either classical or constructive/intuitionistic logic to quantum logic entails besides the introduction of an additional unary connective ‘operational resolution’ (Coecke, 2002a) the shift from a binary connective implication to a ternary connective where two of the arguments refer to qualities of the system and the third, the new one, to an obtained outcome (in a measurement)  相似文献
