A comparative study of cellulose crystallinity based on the sample crystallinity and the cellulose content in plant fibres
was performed for samples of different origin. Strong acid hydrolysis was found superior to agricultural fibre analysis and
comprehensive plant fibre analysis for a consistent determination of the cellulose content. Crystallinity determinations were
based on X-ray powder diffraction methods using side-loaded samples in reflection (Bragg-Brentano) mode. Rietveld refinements
based on the recently published crystal structure of cellulose Iβ followed by integration of the crystalline and amorphous
(background) parts were performed. This was shown to be straightforward to use and in many ways advantageous to traditional
crystallinity determinations using the Segal or the Ruland–Vonk methods. The determined cellulose crystallinities were 90–100 g/100 g
cellulose in plant-based fibres and 60–70 g/100 g cellulose in wood based fibres. These findings are significant in relation

Oxygen radicals are generated in vivo by various processes, often as toxic intermediates in different metabolic transformations, and have been shown to play an important role for a large number of diseases. In this article we introduce an electrochemical flow-through system that allows generation of hydroxyl radicals for reaction with xenobiotics and subsequent detection of the oxidation products on-line with high-performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS/MS). The system is based on the Fenton reaction and is predominantly aimed at the generation of hydroxyl radicals; however, by minor variations to the system, a broad range of other radicals can be produced. Optimization of the system was performed with the radical scavenger 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline-N-oxide (DMPO). Under the same physical conditions, one injection through the electrochemical cell gave a higher yield of the oxidation product N-hydroxy-5,5-dimethylpyrrolidin-2-one than what was attained after 60 min with a chemical Fenton system catalyzed by ascorbic acid. Since the iron is added as Fe(3+), the initial mixture is 'inactive' until it reaches the electrochemical cell. This makes it very suitable for on-line analysis of the generated compounds, since the whole reaction mixture, including substrate, can be kept in a vial in an autosampler. The system described provides a useful tool for investigation of new radical scavengers and antioxidants. Since the hydroxyl radical adds readily to unsaturated pi-systems, the technique is also suitable for on-line generation and characterization of potential drug metabolites resulting from hydroxylation of double bonds and aromatic systems. 相似文献

The desorption of 1,2-dichloroethane from a bed of DTO activated carbon after adsorption from aqueous solution has been investigated. The desorption process was carried out using steam. The basic characteristics of the process were determined. The studies were performed in the temperature range 100-160 degrees C. A steam consumption indicator reduces with an increase of temperature from 100 to 140 degrees C. An elevation of temperature above 140 degrees C does not cause an improvement in the desorption efficiency. The number of performed cycles does not reduce the adsorption capacity of used activated carbon. Studies on the regeneration of the bed saturated with a seven-component mixture of chloroorganic compounds at temperature of 140 degrees C were carried out. The degree of removal of the sum of chloro-derivatives exceeded 0.96 at a volume ratio of steam (recalculated on the condensate) to bed of about 10. It was found that the dechlorination proceeds during desorption at elevated temperature. The quantitative ratio of chloro-derivatives in the desorbate was changed in comparison to the composition of wastewater directed to the adsorption. 相似文献

The average degree of polymerisation (DP) and distribution of oligosaccharides in partially acid hydrolysed mannuronans were quantitatively evaluated by 1H NMR, electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography with UV detection (MEKC-UV), and high-pressure anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD). Our investigation shows that 1H NMR, MEKC-UV and, in particular, HPAEC-PAD can be used as quantitative tools to aid the investigation of polysaccharide structure, function and synthesis. For the latter two techniques, especially, this represents a significant new development as it enables calculation of the quantity of individual oligomers of nominal DP by direct analysis of a defined oligomer mixture. Appropriate statistical averages of number and weight distributions were also calculated and found to fit very well to predicted Kuhn distributions that assume random depolymerisation. 相似文献

The spectroscopic properties for seven different commercial resins used in solid-phase synthesis were investigated with (19)F NMR spectroscopy. A fluorine-labeled dipeptide was synthesized on each resin, and the resolution of the (19)F resonances in CDCl(3), DMSO-d(6), benzene-d(6) and CD(3)OD were measured with a conventional NMR spectrometer, i.e. without using magic angle spinning. In general, resins containing poly(ethylene glycol) chains (ArgoGel, TentaGel and PEGA) were found to be favorable for the (19)F NMR spectral quality. Three serine containing tri-, penta-, and heptapeptides were then prepared on an ArgoGel resin functionalized with a fluorine-labeled linker. The resin bound peptides were glycosylated utilizing a thiogalactoside glycosyl donor carrying fluorine-labeled protective groups. Monitoring of the glycosylations with gel-phase (19)F NMR spectroscopy allowed each glycopeptide to be formed in similar 80% yield, using a minimal amount of glycosyl donor (3 x 2 equivalents). A systematic study of the dissolution of dry, polydisperse poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) samples, obtained from mixtures of low-molecular-weight and high-molecular-weight PEO, was made. During the dissolution process, the individual release of the low- and high-molecular-weight fractions was monitored. The high-molecular-weight/low-molecular-weight ratio controls the release rate, and the fraction of high-molecular-weight polymers dominates the effect on the overall release rate in mixed PEO tablets. Both fractions are released at the same rate during the main part of the dissolution process; however, during the initial dissolution period a fractionation occurs. The release rate is not a unique function of the average molecular weight of the polymer, but also depends on the polydispersity. By contrast, the average dimension of a polymer coil, as given by the intrinsic viscosity, gives a good prediction of the release rate irrespective of the polydispersity or details of the molecular weight distribution. 相似文献

The oxidations of 1,2-polybutadiene by molecular oxygen, singlet oxygen, atomic oxygen and ozone have been studied using u.v. and i.r. spectroscopic methods. Some possible implications of the results of oxidation in the presence of singlet oxygen (parallel free radical oxidation) and atomic oxygen (formation of NO2 and its reaction with polymer) are discussed. Crosslinking was observed during all types of oxidation. A new mechanism involving formation of free radicals has been considered in detail. During ozonization of 1,2-polybutadiene, formation of formaldehyde and formic acid were detected. An ozonization mechanism has been proposed. 相似文献
