Plasmonic properties of silver nanocube monolayers on high refractive index substrates

Extinction spectra of nanocubes supported by a symmetry breaking dielectric substrate are very different from those in solution. In this work, we varied the refractive index of the substrate in order to optimize the refractive index sensitivity (RIS) of supported silver nanocube monolayers. We found that on thin (5?C7?nm) silicon films, the RIS is characterized by the figure of merit (FOM) for the quadrupolar plasmonic mode as high as 5.0, making silicon supported silver nanocube monolayers a promising sensing platform.     

Solvent effects in the polymerization of propylene catalyzed by octahedral complexes

The effect of solvents (toluene, dichloromethane, and hexane) was studied on the polymerization of propylene with the octahedral complexes bis(trimethylsilyl)benzamidinate titanium dichloride(a), bis(acetylacetonate) titanium dichloride(b), and bis(diethylamino) titanium di‐2‐(diphenylphosphanylamino)pyridine as catalytic precursors and methylalumoxane as the cocatalyst. For comparison, the polymerization was also performed in plain liquid propylene without the addition of any solvent. The obtained polymers were fractionated by refluxing hexane. The activity of the complexes and the molecular weights and tacticities of the whole polymers and their different fractions were the studied parameters. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. On invariant subspaces and eigenfunctions of regular Hecke operators on spaces of multiple theta constants

Invariant subspaces and eigenfunctions of regular Hecke operators acting on spaces spanned by products of even number of Igusa theta constants with rational characteristics are constructed. For some of the eigenfunctions of genuses g=1 and g=2, corresponding zeta functions of Hecke and Andrianov are explicitly calculated.     

Interference of transverse rings in multifilamentation of powerful femtosecond laser pulses in air

We observe multiple filaments and interference of their ring structures in the propagation of 14 mJ, 45 fs infrared laser pulse in air. We suggest a simple physical model describing the formation and the interference of rings as the result of superposition of the background field of the whole beam and the fields that diverge from the filaments due to the defocusing in the laser-produced plasma. The size and the number of maxima in the interference pattern depend on the position of the filament formation along the direction of propagation. The simulated picture of the ring structure interference is in qualitative agreement with the one obtained from the experiment.

Analysis of flexible plates based on the method of averaging

The problem is solved on nonlinear bending for a rectangular plate strengthened by a unidirectional regular load-bearing assembly. Starting relationships are used in the form of Berger. An averaging method is used for differential equations in partial derivatives based on the technique of double-scale expansion. The effects of the macrocycle structure and the medium nature on photodecomposition of porphyrinoids under UV irradiation have been studied. The influence of protonation, nonplanar structure of the molecule, and reactivity of NH bonds on the photostability of porphyrins and their analogs has been shown.     

A study of Galerkin method for the heat convection equations

This article investigates the Galerkin method for an initial boundary value problem for heat convection equations. The new error estimates for the approximate solutions and their derivatives in strong norm are obtained.
