The treatment of viral disease has become a medical challenge because of the increasing incidence and prevalence of human viral pathogens, as well as the lack of viable treatment alternatives, including plant-derived strategies. This review attempts to investigate the trends of research on in vitro antiviral effects of curcumin against different classes of human viral pathogens worldwide. Various electronic databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were searched for published English articles evaluating the anti-viral activity of curcumin. Data were then extracted and analyzed. The forty-three studies (published from 1993 to 2020) that were identified contain data for 24 different viruses. The 50% cytotoxic concentration (CC50), 50% effective/inhibitory concentration (EC50/IC50), and stimulation index (SI) parameters showed that curcumin had antiviral activity against viruses causing diseases in humans. Data presented in this review highlight the potential antiviral applications of curcumin and open new avenues for further experiments on the clinical applications of curcumin and its derivatives.  相似文献

The increase in antibiotic resistance and the emergence of new bacterial infections have intensified the research for natural products from plants with associated therapy. This study aimed to verify the antibacterial and antioxidant activity of crude extracts of the genus Plectranthus species, being the first report on the modulation of aminoglycosides antibiotic activity by Plectranthus amboinicus extracts. The chemical composition was obtained by chemical prospecting and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography with diode arrangement detector (HPLC/DAD). The antibacterial activities of the extracts alone or in association with aminoglycosides were analyzed using the microdilution test. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging. The phytochemical prospection allowed the flavonoids, saponins, tannins and triterpenoids to be identified. Quercetin, rutin, gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, catechin, kaempferol, glycosylated kaempferol, quercitrin, and isoquercitrin were identified and quantified. The principal component analysis (PCA) observed the influence of flavonoids and phenolic acids from Plectranthus species on studied activities. Phytochemical tests with the extracts indicated, especially, the presence of flavonoids, confirmed by quantitative analysis by HPLC. The results revealed antibacterial activities, and synergistic effects combined with aminoglycosides, as well as antioxidant potential, especially for P. ornatus species, with IC50 of 32.21 µg/mL. Multivariate analyzes show that the inclusion of data from the antioxidant and antibacterial activity suggests that the antioxidant effect of these species presents a significant contribution to the synergistic effect of phytoconstituents, especially based on the flavonoid contents. The results of this study suggest the antibacterial activity of Plectranthus extracts, as well as their potential in modifying the resistance of the analyzed aminoglycosides.  相似文献

Antibacterial fibers have great potential in numerous applications, including bandages, surgical robes, and surgical sutures, and play a significant role in our everyday lives. Here, zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 was synthesized using a green method on silk fibers through a layer-by-layer process under ultrasonic irradiation (ZIF-67@silk [U]) and without ultrasonic irradiation (ZIF-67@silk [B]). Then, iodine was loaded on ZIF-67@silk samples and were assessed as antibacterial fibers with iodine release. Four samples of ZIF-67@silk and I2@ZIF-67@silk were characterized by FT-IR, PXRD, FE-SEM, TGA, BET, and UV–Vis spectroscopy. Finally, antibacterial activity of ZIF-67@silk (B and U) and I2@ZIF-67@silk (B and U) on Staphylococcus aureus as Gram-positive bacteria and Escherichia coli as Gram-negative bacteria was investigated. In addition to ZIF-67@silk samples, iodine-loaded samples showed excellent antimicrobial facility.  相似文献

S-substituted La2Mo2O9 were synthesized by a solid-state procedure employing ammonium sulfate (NH4)2SO4 as a sulfur source. The synthesized powders were examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), infrared, and Raman spectroscopies. The results divulged that the stabilization of the β-La2Mo2O9 polymorph occurred in the interval of sulfur composition 0.1≤y≤0.6. This substitution generates a linear dwindling of the unit cell volume. The decomposition of all substituted samples started above 900 °C with a total weight loss linearly dependent on the sulfur content. Electrical studies confirmed that substituting S6+ for Mo6+ suppresses the phase transition of La2Mo2O9 and stabilizes the cubic polymorph down to ambient temperature. It was also remarkable that this substitution caused a decrease in the conductivity, and unfortunately, none of the tested compositions allowed exceeding the conductivity of La2Mo2O9. Infrared and Raman spectra confirmed the presence of the characteristic peaks of sulfates and molybdates groups.  相似文献

A graphene oxide-based aerogel was synthesized and applied to the extraction and the determinations with the high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detector. After the characterization of the produced graphene-aerogel, it was utilized as a dispersive solid-phase extraction sorbent for risperidone extraction from plasma samples. Aerogels are materials with a large surface area-to-mass ratio and plenty of core with functional groups which can easily attach to the analytes to extract them to the second phase. The suggested method determined risperidone in plasma samples in the wide dynamic range from 20 ng/ml to 3 μg/ml. The limits of detection and quantification of the developed method were calculated as 2.4 and 8.2 ng/ml, respectively. As a novel feature, the developed method has no need to precipitate plasma proteins, improving the analytical performance of the analysis. Also, for the first time, the produced materials were utilized for the extraction of risperidone from the plasma samples. The obtained results revealed that the developed approach could be employed as an accurate method for the quantification of risperidone in real plasma samples.  相似文献

The accumulation of waste plastics in landfills and the environment, as well as the contribution of plastics manufacturing to global warming, call for the development of new technologies that would enable circularity for synthetic polymers. Thus far, emerging approaches for chemical recycling of plastics have largely focused on producing fuels, lubricants, and/or monomers. In a recent study, Junde Wei and colleagues demonstrated a new catalytic system capable of converting oxygen-containing aromatic plastic waste into liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs), which can be used for hydrogen storage. The authors utilized Ru−ReOx/SiO2 materials with zeolite HZSM-5 as a co-catalyst for the direct hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of oxygen-containing aromatic plastic wastes that yield cycloalkanes as LOHCs with a theoretical hydrogen capacity of ≈5.74 wt % under mild reaction conditions. Subsequent efficiency and stability tests of cycloalkane dehydrogenation over Pt/Al2O3 validated that the HDO products can serve as LOHCs to generate H2 gas. Overall, their approach not only opens doors to alleviating the severe burden of plastic waste globally, but also offers a way to generate clean energy and ease the challenges associated with hydrogen storage and transportation.  相似文献
