The M?ssbauer effect spectra for a series of small [Fe(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(CO)(x)()] substituted metallaborane complexes are reported, where x = 1 or 2. The pentaborane cage in compounds [Fe(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(CO)(2)B(5)H(7)P(C(6)H(5))(2)] (1), [Fe(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(CO)(2)B(5)H(8)] (2), and [(Fe(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(CO)(2))(2)B(5)H(7)] (3) was found to act as a significantly better donor ligand than the ligands in a comparison group of previously reported [Fe(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(CO)LX] complexes, where L = CO or PPh(3) and X = halide, pseudohalide, or alkyl ligands. These metallaborane complexes were found to most resemble their silyl analogues in M?ssbauer spectral parameters and the electronic distribution around the iron centers. In addition, the M?ssbauer data showed that the [&mgr;-2,3-(P(C(6)H(5))(2)B(5)H(7)](-) ligand was a superior donor to the corresponding unsubstituted [B(5)H(8)](-) ligand. The M?ssbauer spectral results for the metallaborane complexes studied were found to be in general agreement with the anticipated donor and accepting bonding considerations for the cage ligands based upon their infrared and (11)B NMR spectra and X-ray structural features. The M?ssbauer data for the [Fe(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(CO)B(4)H(6)(P(C(6)H(5))(2))] (4) and [Fe(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(CO)B(3)H(7)(P(C(6)H(5))(2))] (5) complexes, in comparison with compound 1, showed that as the borane cage becomes progressively smaller, it becomes a poorer donor ligand. A qualitative relationship was found between the observed M?ssbauer isomer shift data and the number of boron cage vertices for the structurally related [Fe(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(CO)(x)B(y)H(z)P(C(6)H(5))(2)] complexes, where x = 1 or 2, y = 3-5, and z = 6 or 7. The X-ray crystallographic data for compounds 1, 2, 5, and [Fe(eta(5)-C(5)H(5))(CO)B(5)H(8)] (6) were also found to agree with the trends observed in the M?ssbauer spectra which showed that the s-electron density on the iron nucleus increases in the order 5 < 6 < 2 < 1. The X-ray crystal structure of complex 2 is also reported. The new hydride complexes [Mo2Cp2(mu-H)(mu-PHR)(CO)4] having bulky substituents (R = 2,4,6-C(6)H2tBu3= Mes*, R = 2,4,6-C6H2Me3= Mes) have been prepared in good yield by addition of Li[PHR] to the triply bonded [Mo2Cp2(CO)4] and further protonation of the resulting anionic phosphide complex [Mo2Cp2(mu-PHR)(CO)4]-. Protonation of the Mes* compound with either [H(OEt2)2][B{3,5-C6H3(CF3)2}4] or HBF4.OEt2 gives the cationic phosphinidene complex [Mo2Cp2(mu-H)(mu-PMes*)(CO)4]+ in high yield. In contrast, protonation of the analogous hydride compounds with Mes or Cy substituents on phosphorus give the corresponding unsaturated tetracarbonyls [Mo2Cp2(mu-PHR)(CO)4]+, which are unstable at room temperature and display a cis geometry. Decomposition of the latter give the electron-precise pentacarbonyls [Mo2Cp2(mu-PHR)(mu-CO)(CO)4]+, also displaying a cis arrangement of the metal fragments. In the presence of BF4- as external anion, fluoride abstraction competes with carbonylation to yield the neutral fluorophosphide hydrides [Mo2Cp2(mu-H)(mu-PFR)(CO)4]. Similar results were obtained in the protonation reactions of the hydride compounds having a Ph substituent on phosphorus. In that case, using HCl as protonation reagent gave the chloro-complex [Mo2ClCp2(mu-PHPh)(CO)4] in good yield. The structures and dynamic behaviour of the new compounds are analyzed on the basis of solution IR and 1H, 31P, 19F and 13C NMR data as well as the X-ray studies carried out on [Mo2Cp2(mu-H)(mu-PHMes)(CO)4](cis isomer), [Mo2Cp2(mu-H)(mu-PFMes)(CO)4](trans isomer), [Mo2Cp2(mu-PHCy)(mu-CO)(CO)4](BF4) and [Mo2ClCp2(mu-PHPh)(CO)4].  相似文献

Free energy calculations for the transfer of a water molecule from the pure liquid to an interior cavity site in a protein are presented. Two different protein cavities, in bovine pancreatic trypsin inhibitor (BPTI) and in the I76A mutant of barnase, represent very different environments for the water molecule: one which is polar, forming four water-protein hydrogen bonds, and one which is more hydrophobic, forming only one water-protein hydrogen bond. The calculations give very different free energies for the different cavities, with only the polar BPTI cavity predicted to be hydrated. The corresponding entropies for the transfer to the interior cavities are calculated as well and show that the transfer to the polar cavity is significantly entropically unfavorable while the transfer to the nonpolar cavity is entropically favorable. For both proteins an analysis of the fluctuations in the positions of the protein atoms shows that the addition of a water molecule makes the protein more flexible. This increased flexibility appears to be due to an increased length and weakened strength of protein-protein hydrogen bonds near the cavity.  相似文献
