Control of the molecular characteristics of cationic oligopiperylene using isomeric methylbutenes

Additions of 2-methyl-1-butene or 2-methyl-2-butene to a monomer mixture with piperylene were tested as means for controlling the molecular parameters of cationic oligopiperylene prepared with the TiCl₄-H₂O catalytic system.     

TiO<Subscript>2</Subscript> Photocatalytic Oxidation: II. Gas-Phase Processes

The results of studies on the TiO₂ photocatalytic oxidation of model air pollutants are summarized. The kinetics of photocatalytic oxidation of CO and the vapors of a number of simple organic substances was studied in detail. It was found that, in the course of reaction, all of the test substances underwent complete mineralization. Gaseous substrates were converted with the participation of several types of reaction centers. The photocatalytic oxidation of sulfur- and phosphorus-containing substances resulted in gradual deactivation of the photocatalyst; however, its activity can be restored by washing the photocatalyst with water. Catalytic condensation of cyclopentanone with arylmethylene(6-quinolyl)amines gave previously unknown 8-aryl-10,11-dihydro-9H-cyclopenta[a]-4,7-phenanthrolines.     

Reaction of Methylcyclohexanones with Substituted Benzaldehydes and 2-Naphthylamine

Cascade heterocyclization of 3(4)-methylcyclohexanone, substituted benzaldehyde, and 2-naphthyl-amine in a polar solvent in the presence of hydrochloric acid afforded the corresponding 5-aryl-2(3)-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrobenzo[a]phenanthridines and 12-aryl-9(10)-methyl-8,9,10,11-tetrahydrobenz[a]acridines     

Catalytic hydroamination of furfuryl and tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohols with nitriles

Reaction of furfuryl and tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohols with nitriles over copper oxide catalysts under a hydrogen pressure of 15 atm at a temperature of 230C gives N-alkylfurfuryl- (yield 46–50%) and N-alkyl-tetrahydrofurfurylamines (49–53%), and N-alkylpiperidines (28–41%).
