Capillary Electrophoresis Chiral Separation for Enantiomeric Purity Determination of a Basic Drug in Pharmaceutical Formulations

Capillary electrophoresis using a running buffer composed of β-cyclodextrin as the chiral selector and ethanolamine mesylate at pH 9.6 is being used to monitor the stereochemical stability of a hydrophobic drug, containing two chiral centers, in two different formulated self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) products. The separation takes place in less than 25 min. Strategies for enhancing the method reproducibility and detection sensitivity in the lower potency formulation are presented. Towards the Evaluation of the Relevant Degrees of Freedom in Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations

We investigate an operator renormalization group method to extract and describe the relevant degrees of freedom in the evolution of partial differential equations. The proposed renormalization group approach is formulated as an analytical method providing the fundamental concepts of a numerical algorithm applicable to various dynamical systems. We examine dynamical scaling characteristics in the short-time and the long-time evolution regime providing only a reduced number of degrees of freedom to the evolution process.     

Une nouvelle méthode de raffinement de maillage spatio-temporel pour l'équation des ondes

In the present Note we introduce an extension of the conservative space–time mesh refinement method presented by Fouquet et al. We also propose a post-treatment of the solution that reduces the spurious phenomena due to the non-conformity between the time meshes. A reinterpretation of the equations in terms of new unknowns leads to a new scheme with second order consistent coupling equations. Numerical experiments in 2D and a plane wave analysis for the 1D model show that the method is second order accurate for an arbitrary refinement. To cite this article: J. Rodríguez, C. R. Acad. Sci. New inequalities from classical Sturm theorems

Inequalities satisfied by the zeros of the solutions of second-order hypergeometric equations are derived through a systematic use of Liouville transformations together with the application of classical Sturm theorems. This systematic study allows us to improve previously known inequalities and to extend their range of validity as well as to discover inequalities which appear to be new. Among other properties obtained, Szegő's bounds on the zeros of Jacobi polynomials for , are completed with results for the rest of parameter values, Grosjean's inequality (J. Approx. Theory 50 (1987) 84) on the zeros of Legendre polynomials is shown to be valid for Jacobi polynomials with |β|1, bounds on ratios of consecutive zeros of Gauss and confluent hypergeometric functions are derived as well as an inequality involving the geometric mean of zeros of Bessel functions.     

Correlations in the sand pile model: From the log-normal distribution to self-organized criticality

We have studied the approach of the Abelian sand pile model towards the stationary, self-organized criticality state. The uncorrelated limit is shown both numerically and by a simple analysis to follow the log-normal distribution. We introduce and evaluate several correlation fuctions to study the correlated region.     

Category with a natural cone

Generally, in homotopy theory a cylinder object (or, its dual, a path object) is used to define homotopy between morphisms, and a cone object is used to build exact sequences of homotopy groups. Here, an axiomatic theory based on a cone functor is given. Suspension objects are associated to based objects and cofibrations, obtaining homotopy groups referred to an object and relative to a cofibration, respectively. Exact sequences of these groups are built. Algebraic and particular examples are given. We point out that the main results of this paper were already stated in [3], and the purpose of this article is to give full details of the foregoing.     

The LPCTrap experiment: measurement of the β–ν angular correlation in 6He using a transparent Paul trap

We report on the status of the LPCTrap experiment, devoted to measure the β–ν angular correlation in the pure Gamow–Teller decay of ⁶He. This measurement is motivated by the search for the presence of tensor type contributions to the weak interaction. The ⁶He ions are confined in a novel transparent Paul trap. The β particles and the recoil ions are detected in coincidence to deduce the angular correlation parameter. The commissioning run performed in 2005 has given the proof of principle of this experiment. Up to 10⁵ coincidences were recorded during a second run in 2006.
